  • Shooting my M16A4 clone using Black Hills 77gr OTM and IMI Razor Core 77gr HPBT-Match ammunition. Combined with a Trijicon ACOG TA31RCO-A4CP, this rifle is a blast to shoot.

    Man don't over think it..... 3 shot groups can be deceiving. The groups you are getting are very normal with the rifle, optic and ammo combo you are running. Not every setup is a "1 MOA all day" rig. Enjoyed the video!

      Sweet, thanks for letting me know! Yeah I definitely need to keep that in mind - gotta be realistic with the setup I have. Much appreciated!

      I would bet that Chevron reticle is a limitation too.
      I’ve noticed a consistent improvement in my groups shooting the same rifle but with the crosshair reticle ACOG vs the Chevron model that was previously on it.

      @@rifleshooterchannel208 Def good to know... yeah the chevron is not the most intuitive for me I will admit. But, will make do with what I have... if our armed forces can use it so well, then it's plenty good for me haha

    Always 5 shot group MINIMUM. Also, don't over think it man. There's so many factors at play when it comes to perfecting accuracy. Almost always you'll have 2 noticeable impact points from a cold barrel first shot and a Luke warm second shot.... The hotter the barrel becomes the more barrel harmonics come into play.

    If it's not you, then something's wrong. Those heavy otm's are usually very accurate. Around 1moa. And you're using an acog on a 20 barrel. You should be all GTG for success with being accurate. One thing I can suggest. Use a quarter and trace around it with a sharpie and fill it in. Black dots on white paper or cardboard is very easy to see, especially with an acog, and you'll have a smaller aiming point. Aim small miss small. I can shoot even tula from my 16inch barrel at around 3-4 moa at 200 yards with an Eotech and magnifier. Frontier 5.56 75gr, 1 moa across the board all day. Positive vibes and enjoy each shot.

    Sweet A4! I’d like to put one together similar to yours. Have a Colt M4A1 SOCOM with the M4 ACOG and ARD. Used the A2 then the A4 in the Marines back in 2000-2008

  • @toryowens5817
    @toryowens5817 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I was issued an A2. I loved that rifle and ended up making a clone later on. I never got to use an A4. My unit went straight from the A2 rifles to the M4.

    don't worry about 3 round groups. 3 round groups barely represent anything, 5 rounds are about 80% of what you should expect to happen, 9 round groups are roughly representative.
    also the RCO is for 62gr M855 specifically, though it does not account for spin drift. every time I have shot M855 at range the impacts pull right the farther I go. The TA11SDOCP for the M249/M27 IAR, and the M7 RCO with the same reticle, account for this and actually angle the vertical drop line to the right. But this is an M855 phenomena.
    So basically, the RCOs are all flawed in one way or another. M193 should be pretty close though.

      Nice, really appreciate this insight man - I'll definitely remember this next time I shoot. I think I am also so used to seeing sub-MOA groups from other videos that I am starting to expect the same!

      @superfamilyallosauridae6505 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the groups are going to get bigger, but you can ignore other people's 3 shot groups too. those only tell part of the story. a sub moa 3 shot group does not make a sub moa rifle or shooter.@@jamesshoots

    As a guy who has shot long range for many years now. It took me a LONG time to learn the value of the correct way to use a rear squeeze bag, relaxing your body, keeping your thumb on the right side of the gun. Your support hand on the bag should not touch the rifle. Your right leg should be straight back behind the rifle. When you get to larger calibers and the gun jumps somewhere other than straight back your body is not in line while shooting prone. It's a long process to learn believe me! Lol

    • @jamesshoots
      @jamesshoots  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So glad you said something - my support hand was touching the bag and my right leg definitely was NOT straight behind the rifle lol. Definitely gonna do these things next time - THANK YOU!
      As for the rifle on the right side of the gun - I've seen this but need to try. Is the point to minimize any contact with the gun/variables that could cause it to move?

    • @dennis1979gm
      @dennis1979gm 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah so you don't squeeze your hand a you press the trigger. You should hathe trigger in the middle of your finger tip and you second joint of you finger move it straight back and not a curling motion. This can cause a some stringing of the group. Also I've had where my support hand made contact with the stock and it amplified my heartbeat in the scope. Lots of little details that take time to learn. Dry firing also helps with trigger pull reps and basic setup. Best way to see if your pull makes you come off target because recoil can't hide it.

    As a marksmanship trainer, and as a shooter who's expanding my own abilities, the vertical pattern in your groups could be indicative of improper breathing control. Meaning you're firing while not utilizing your natural respiratory pause... literally right after i commented this i saw your explanation

    Great video! I also have a clone m16a4 with a ta31RCO-a4. My grouping isn’t the greatest but it’s more then enough for a combat rifle. More vids on your rig would be great! Just subbed too

    Statistically, a three shot group is a small sample size. I try to use 5 shot groups, esp with gas guns. I know ammo is expensive, but a 5 shot group will better represent and trends in the data.
    Body alignment has to do with your shoulders, hips, and feet behind the rifle and in a natural position so that you need minimum, or ideally no muscular input to keep the reticle aligned. Muscles fatigue so you want as much of your position based on skeletal structure as possible. This means moving your body behind the rifle instead of trying to manhandle the rifle. If you watch experienced shooters while they are prone, they make little adjustments with feet, hips, shoulders, and elbows until their body is properly aligned so that they can close their eyes and expect their reticle to stay on target without conscious input from their body; alignment rather than muscular input.

    For the most part, vertical stringing is from not firing during a raspatory pause. Horizontal stringing is poor trigger control. Your stringing that goes up and to the left is both at the same time.
    Find an Appleseed shoot in your area and attend that; ALL of the issues you mention will be addressed.

      @@jamesshoots Personally I like and buy AAC. It’s not the best and at the same time it’s no slouch. I think people expect too much of ammo sometimes. Just because one firearm shoots AAC 77 grain gets sub MOA doesn’t mean the next one will. Each rifle is different and will perform differently, you gotta find what works for your own rifle.

      @@ElTejon47901 this is an outright lie. they teach you how to zero a rifle at Appleseed. Since you're an adult, you could just adjust your sights anyway or be responsible and come with a zeroed rifle. Also, if your range doesn't allow you to carry it's because it's a cold range. "Watch your breaving" is the dumbest statement ever made. Respritory pause. Inhale... exhale half...stop exhale..fire. Do not fully exhale!!!
    Adjust your ACOG point of impact. If your zero isn't proper none of the rest of the stadia lines will line up at range
