You healed the 20 years of suffering and resentment I felt toward Gundam as a franchise. All I’ve seen was Wing and I just didn’t understand it. Now I know I’m not a moron (at least not because of this).
Yeahhh I find Wing a bit obtuse. It's pretty complicated with all its moving parts, factions double crossing each other every 5 episodes and long monologue sections 😅 I don't blame anybody for being confused since I certainly was haha, and that was after watching a bunch of other series too
As a diehard Victory Gundam fan I completely agree. That show is for sick individuals.
I really enjoyed this video, it's nice to see someone point out how the AUs make Gundam very accessible.
Oddly enough, I have friends who watched Unicorn and Hathaway standalone and enjoyed. I can't imagine caring about either of those stories without knowing what came before.
Once again, I really enjoyed this video.
Thank you so much!! Laughed pretty hard at the Victory Gundam comment! And yeah I think some of the AU's are really great places to start! Definitely wouldn't appreciate unicorn or hathaway as much if I didn't watch previous UC series.
Just wanna say, though turn A technically connects to other series, it doesn't hold any direct bearing on its story. Turn A explores how it's world ended up the way it is, but doesn't really elaborate on what came prior
It's basically just Easter eggs, like some "ancient" mobile suits that get excavated being grunt suits from prior series.
Personally I think it's not only a perfectly fine jumping on point, but probably one of the best stand-alone experiences the franchise has to offer. It's written by the same guy as G-Witch and it really shows in how it blends cute slice-of-life elements into its more serious war-drama arcs.
I have since seen Turn A (and EVERYTHING besides G reco now)
And yeah you don't really need to watch any previous series but I think you get a lot more out of it from the suit cameos and it's overall themes and udeas if your familiar with other Gundam shows.
I still wouldn't recommend it as a first show in general though unless you know someone who would really like some of its more unique elements (which could be said for almost any of them). So maybe I'd give it 1 star or something
I thought Turn A was way more of Tominos baby and had multiple writers? Though it's cool there's some connecting tissue with Ichirō Ōkouchi
I never really got the hype on how "Confusing" the timeline/watch order is, UC has a pretty straight foward order and a lot of the other ones are self contained
Well that doesn't mean others don't find it confusing. Also getting input with which series to start with is helpful too
@@TrentinArt Of course, im not down playing the potential usefullness of this video. My main issue is the people who make it seem more confusing then they have too which I believe puts off people from starting the series.
@@projectmessiah Potentially yeah but I also think some series are actually a bit confusing for people and while it isnt that hard to research everything yourself it does take some effort, so stuff like this can help simplify things. Plus people have directly asked me where to start so this might help 😅

I listened to people hype up Turn A as the last Gundam show you watch, but that left me kinda underwhelmed by the show, which I otherwise love. The phrase "everything ends with Turn A" is thrown around quite a bit by people who have never seen it, but it's only a thematic end to the first 20 years of Gundam, and ultimately standalone. I'd put it next to Build and X as something best enjoyed by fans, but still digestible for new viewers.
To clarify with the manga stuff: The Origin anime is an adaptation of the manga, not the other way around, making it non-canon to the rest of UC Gundam. CDA has a sequel similar to The Origin titled Zeta Define, which retells Zeta Gundam.
00 over SEED is crazy to me but that's largely because I am an insane SEED Destiny defender and an A wakening of the Trailblazer hater. Otherwise great video that will hopefully bring more people on board with the series!
Thanks for your insight into Turn A!!
Oh I know the Origin manga came first, maybe I worded it weirdly in my script haha but wanted to bring it up as a lot of people watch the channel for manga related stuff.
Definitley think Seed is a decent place to begin but 00 is a bit more digestible, and I'd be reversed on Destiny and trailblazer but everyone has different favourites since theres so many different gundam series!
Since this script was written a while ago i might've moved Seed up to 3 stars now that its being chatted more about thanks to Freedom being released, but I hope the video gets some people interested and thanks for your comment!
The Origin anime is a direct adaptation of select chapters from the manga of the same name. As such they are a stand-alone reimagining of Mobile Suit Gundam and not in the same continuity.
There are far too many incongruences and irreconcilable continuity issues.
gundam, fate and bakemonogatari 3 shows that have nothing in common exept a confusing watch order
Ahahaha mainly down to their number of entries, but yep!
