@@thewanderingsamurai1150 Second half is just really rushed and confusing. It's like you're watching the 2nd half of a DIFFERENT show.
Some good episodes, but ultimately a letdown. The show is fine, there's a lot to like, but the writing in the 2nd half just lets the characters down.

I think if you watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam, you'll enjoy it more. But I think once you see Turn A you'll see it as a "freeing" experience in some ways. Like, that's kind of the theme. It's great. It did not end my love of Gundam, but it did change it.

Seriously seconding Witch From Mercury. Both surprisingly accessible and surprisingly invested in the series' core conceits.
Didn't expect you to actually like gundam as well. Always took u as the Infinity Fan who is able to find lore for the game. Didn't know u were a Gundam Chad fan as well

I wouldn’t personally recommend IBO. In all honesty, I still haven’t finished or have the drive to. It’s fine, but I think 00 or the original series are better starting points.

I started this series after I graduated college with the original series this year with the original Mobile Suit Gundam. I can’t get enough of it. I have watched most of the UC except Unicorn and Victory, and a bunch of the AU. It’s just so amazing and it kept me occupied when searching for a job. I just keep recommending it to literally everyone, and it’s probably my favorite anime. I’ve been attempting to get Nux Taku to watch it with no avail. My two picks for starter Gundam are the original series and 00.

I've started my journey with original trilogy and I was shocked that they're still great. Good job for promoting Gundam. It's weird that gundam need promoting in the west. It's like promoting star wars

Loved every moment, found your channel for the amazing Infinity lore explanations and now I discover we have other stuff in common. I started with the plastic route, got a Zaku from a friend for Christmas and that made me dive right into the original series! Thanks for the video, it really shows is made with passion and love for the franchise
This is an excellent summary of the franchise and some of the best ways to get into it. Modern shows definitely have an edge for newcomers due to their nature as self-contained works, rather than being tied up in the massive continuity that is the Universal Century. Iron-Blooded Orphans was what got me hooked on the Gundam franchise, and Witch from Mercury is the first anime I've watched week-to-week in a long time.
Speaking of Universal Century, I feel like 08th MS Team deserves a mention as one of the better entry points into the UC timeline. It's short, it's set during the One Year War (arguably the defining event of the UC timeline), it requires little prior knowledge of the setting, it has a decent English dub for those who prefer dubs to subs, and the animation and music are both very good. From what little I know, 0080: War in the Pocket is also a good standalone entry in UC, but I haven't seen it myself so I can't vouch for it. On a personal note, the Ground Gundam is and remains my favorite lead mobile suit design from any UC anime.
Also, regarding the dub of the Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 compilation movies: I have watched them, the quality of the dub is hit or miss, but it does feature Steve Blum voicing Char Aznable and absolutely chewing the scenery at times, which almost makes it worth the watch.
Blum brings a lot of talent to what is otherwise a VERY uneven dub! He really stands out, appropriately so for the Red Comet.
I stumbled into gundam after playing Evo, seeing the mustache and knowing I had to watch Turn A, im excited to re-watch it after watching the rest of UC, but even without the context it was really good. Think my favorite part is the unconventional mech design, and the eldritch aspects of the Turn A and X.
Hell yes. You're not the only one to see the moustache in Gundam Evolution and say "what the hell is this"
that and the Mahiroo are both WEIRD designs, but they do give you the right "vibe," they kind of threaten you with "something powerful and different." I love the word eldritch there.
I think it's time to revisit Gundam Wing. Toonami calls.

I totally disagee with calling 'Gundam SEED' not great, gundam SEED was my entry point into the Gundam animes and I would advise a newcomer to watch it before delving into the UC timeline.
tbh I like it a lot too, it's just not the one I'd recommend right now. Hence why I think peeps should just try out "whatever they have access to" and crunchyroll/netflix have Witch and IBO for example :)

I would have had *zero* interest in Gundam, but then I was offered to play the Lancer Indie RPG... Now I am genuinely curious about the most iconic entry into the Mech world. Turn A definitely sounds like my thing. Also...there's a part of me hoping you were weren't joking about crying to strangers about that ending...that is a *scene* that I want to be real so bad, I'm just going to live my life as though it was, regardless of the facts.
