      @@TobyDIOK , check that you've got the right number of smart drivers set in board.txt (on the stepper.numSmartDrivers line). Also be sure that line isn't duplicated -- it tends to get pushed to the end of the file, after a bunch of newlines, so it's easy to miss or accidentally duplicate. If you continue to have problems, I suggest you ask on the Discord group (discord.com/channels/711873626080804914), which is better for help/debugging than TH-cam comments, in my experience.

      @@ChrisRiley finding a good mount, part cooling duct and BL Touch was a challenge for the E3D Hemera. TK Ward offers a very nice solution on the FolgerTech Mods Facebook group. The only issue I’m sorting out is bed temp. That thermosistor is below a pretty big piece of magnet so I suspect what that temp records is vastly different than the print surface. But...back to the topic, the SKR Duet has been really great. I hate messing with firmware, it’s not something I enjoy, so the ability to make quick changes on the fly ... very nice.

    Nice job Chris! My only suggestion that would make probing easier, on M557 instead of setting the distance and the amount of probe points, just use a M557 X”xx:xx” Y”xx:xx” then a Px:x; the “p” setting makes the dividing of the given space automatic like a Prusa would. So for example mine is P7:4 or 7 in the X and 4 rows in the Y. I find this to be much easier.

    • @malloot9224
      @malloot9224 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the setup with a PI is a bit confusing, but RRF is a great FW besides just DWC. With a wifi module or the FLY-CDY board that includes wifi for a low price you have everything in one go

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't use Klipper in a while, but the RRF seems to be a very easy to use interface that is somewhat stratforward to setup. Klipper use to take a little more work and more command line.

    • @scottbenninger9624
      @scottbenninger9624 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisRiley The klipper install is quite a bit easier these days. There is a nice installer called Kiauth that can install any/all the components or a pre built image of Fluidd called FluiddPi with Fluidd/Moonraker/Klipper ready to go. Works very well...basically no command line other than flashing the MCU firmware. The new resonance compensation calibration works very well too. • @rodericksmith2278
      @rodericksmith2278 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A standard RepRapDiscount-style display, like a 12864, won't work with this configuration. There are serial-based alternatives that work with most of these 32-bit boards, though. Duet3D's PanelDue is designed for RepRapFirmware, but it's a bit pricey. There are others, like the BTT TFT series, that will work, but with stock firmware some features won't work because of g-code differences. There are third-party (community-developed) firmware forks for the BTT TFT series that make them work quite well, though, for much less than a PanelDue costs. I've also seen references to interface hardware that let RepRap-style monochrome panels work, but I don't know much about them; and if you're adding hardware, IMHO, you might as well upgrade to a color LCD panel.

    • @rodericksmith2278
      @rodericksmith2278 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OVCArchion, I've had the best luck on my BTT TFT35-E3 with the Thro42 firmware (github.com/Thro42/BTT-SOVOL-TouchScreenFirmware-Duet). This enables launching prints and macros stored on the control board's micro-SD card, and it runs a print control screen when a print is underway. It loses the ability to print from the LCD's own SD card and USB ports, though. Also, if you follow the documentation, the screen will be flaky; for me, at least, I need to activate support in RRF's config.g with "M575 P1 S1 B57600", not with the "M575 P1 S3 B57600" that the documentation specifies. (Actually, I use B115200, but RRF's default/recommendation is 57600, so best to start with that in case 115200 is too fast.) I've written up more of my experiences here: www.rodsbooks.com/robo3d-upgrade/index.html#tft35
      One more point: The BTT github page for their TFT screens (github.com/bigtreetech/BIGTREETECH-TouchScreenFirmware) is quite active. They recently accepted some patches that improve RRF functionality, but not to the point of what the Thro42 fork does. With any luck the fork's improvements will get merged into the main BTT build before too long, but your guess is as good as mine when (or even if) that might happen.

      Once RRF is installed, you can usually update RRF itself via the DWC, just by uploading the new file to the System area of the DWC. That doesn't always work, though; for instance, the protocols changed between 3.2-beta3.2 and 3.2-beta4.1, necessitating an update by installing the new file on the micro-SD card, much like with the initial installation. (At least, this was true with my SKR Pro v1.2.) Note that this does NOT require the full reconfiguration; you've just got to drop the new firmware file on the micro-SD card with a name of firmware.bin. Thus, you should ensure that you have access to the micro-SD card once the board is installed. You can probably get by with it being SOMEWHAT awkward to get to, since you won't need to do updates frequently, and the Web-based updates will USUALLY work. The WiFi module is another matter; it has its own firmware. This can be updated using special software on your computer and a USB cable from the computer to the WiFi module; or for the Tindie board, you can connect two more wires and update the firmware much like you do the main RRF, by uploading a new file to the System area of the DWC.

      Chris has done at least three videos on adding WiFi to Marlin-based printers. A couple use ESP8266 modules attached directly to the mainboard, and those methods are very slow, because the WiFi modules communicate with the mainboard via serial links. Another used a Panucatt WiFi Backpack, which enables much faster uploads to the SD card plugged into an LCD control screen, and it's much faster. I've never used either type of device, so I have no way to directly compare. I just timed an upload of a 2.4 MiB Benchy gcode file to my SKR Pro 1.2 running RRF, and it took 15 seconds. The time for such operations might vary a bit depending on the signal strength (mine's not so good), the CPU or other features of the board, the speed of the SD card, etc.

    • @rodericksmith2278
      @rodericksmith2278 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Although this is possible with an SKR 1.4 board, the Duet 2 and Duet 3 lines offer faster CPUs and more RAM (64 KiB RAM and LPC CPUs in the SKR 1.3 and 1.4 vs. 128 KiB and Atmel CPUs in the Duet 2 boards, for instance). As noted in the video, there are some limitations imposed by the limited RAM and lower-end CPUs. The BTT SKR Pro and GTR boards, which are supported by the same software project as the SKR 1.3 and 1.4, have specs that are more like those of the Duet 2, although they use different CPUs (STM32-series). In other words, you may not have wasted your money, although I can't say whether the limitations of the LPC-based boards are important to you.

    • @rodericksmith2278
      @rodericksmith2278 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No -- at least, not with the DWC. It's conceivable that the current Web UI you've got on it would work the same if you swapped out Marlin for RRF, but I can't promise even that would work. To get the DWC, you'd need to upgrade the WiFi module. If you're comfortable with the wiring and soldering, you could put this together for about $5; but a pre-built module will cost at least $10 plus shipping, and the shipping will be at least that much, so probably $25-$30.

      There are other displays that'll work. In theory, anything that "talks" g-code to the printer over a serial interface will work. In practice, there may be complications because of different dialects, but there are some that work pretty well, either despite that or because there are third-party firmware builds. The BTT TFT series, for instance, has a number of RRF-enabled builds. AFAIK, the best of these is this one: github.com/Thro42/BTT-SOVOL-TouchScreenFirmware-Duet These aren't quite as cheap as a RepRapDiscount 12864 or similar, but they're still pretty cheap.
