    Hi! Thank you for sharing your big experience.
    I had been wanting to try the Reprap firmware for a while, and your video was the right input!
    I just wanted to add that all those resistors on the ESP8266 module are not really necessary.
    ESP mcu works with the same voltage level (3.3V) as the LPC17XX main processor.
    At the moment I have only kept the pull-down resistor on the RESET pin and it works without problems.
    I also added "M552 S1" at the end of my config file in order to start WiFi interface as soon as printer go on.

      I’d love to see this too, so I will vote for the comparison as well. I have an SKR 1.4T right here in my hot little hands that I am about to throw in my SWX1. Worked on compiling the latest build of Marlin for it last night so that’s going on first, but I am curious about RepRap. Ultimately in my decision making process, I just didn’t see any advantage of going with it versus using a combo of Marlin and OctoPrint. I couldn’t come to a conclusion in my research either way if OctoPrint would even work with RepRap, so that right there would potentially be a dealbreaker.. gotta have my OctoPrint just for the Home Assistant hooks. Also can’t seem to understand what advantages, if any, the RepRap web UI would have over OctoPrint.

    Very nice guide . Another thing to consider would be the Makerbase version of the Duet 2 Wifi, It is only a few $'s more the the SKR but much less since you do not need any other parts. I have one of these but have not tested it yet. I am going to install it in to my Flsun Q5.

    OH MY GOD, thank you so much for this guide. I just bought the SKR 1.4 + TMC2209's + TFT touchscreen and WiFi... I was already preparing to use Marlin but now that I see RRF is available for this board, damn this is just so much better. Thanks again! The only difference from your guide and what I have is that I am using the WiFi from BigTreeTech that comes with the SKR 1.4 board. so basically I am not using a separate branded board. It comes with a programmer so it's quite doable I guess.

    I've got an X1 I've been running stock for weeks, despite having an SKR 1.3, TMC2209s, TFT35, BLTouch, etc. to install on it. When you mentioned this project on Patreon I was glad I procrastinated on the upgrade! I will try this using the Pi4 currently running OctoPrint in lieu of the ESP8266. I feel like I'd be a lot better at your heatshrink loom technique than protoboarding an adapter. That leaves the TFT35, which I may just skip and keep the stock TFT28... then maybe a tablet running the web interface. Glad I've been running it stock this whole time, so I have a good baseline to compare the RRF setup to. Thanks for the video Michael!

    • @Molafa
      @Molafa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, Since you do have the TFT35 which includes an ESP port where you should be able to insert an ESP8266 module. My question is; would that work without having to do any hardware modification? Would it just be changing the settings & compiling the firmware for the screen to support the RRF ESP; but is that even possible?

    • @Molafa
      @Molafa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      From Jay's blog; you cannot use the BTT ESP module; since you need ESP-12/13 or ESP-07.
      But I believe it should be possible if you bought ESP-12 serial module.

    I'd love to see a comparison between the RepRap interface and Octoprint. I know one of the large advantages of Octoprint is the 3rd party plugin support and I don't know if RepRap offers those or not.
    Also, for the Raspberry Pi, would a Pi Zero (or Zero W) work or does it have to be a Pi 3 or 4? I feel like the wire loom for the Pi is way cheaper and a Pi Zero is $10, meaning it would be the best of both worlds between the Wifi board and the Pi 3 (easier and cheap).

    COOL! Ordering the stuff I need now.... I have a duet 2 Wifi, so to me this is like an upgrade, thanks, let you know how I get on.
    On a side note, I did add an external antenna to the Duet board and chopped a trace on the onboard antenna, although all the moaning about matching the antenna is true, I chose to ignore it. Basically I slowed the wifi connection down, as the antenna is not matched, however it is now more reliable, so the file to print make it to the 3d printer first time every time!

      In terms of base firmware, I'd say no difference. The serial communication used here is faster than the USB serial used by Octoprint so potentially if you were having buffering/stuttering issues with Octoprint, the SBC installation here would not suffer the same way.

Also I'm doubtful that the companies making the clones are truly supporting, or are part of, the 3D printing community.
