M cars are all gt cars too. Go drive a 911 or boxster cayman -even a Miata and you’ll see the distinction immediately. BMW doesn’t make true sport cars. They make awesome high quality road cars that are sporty cars you can daily drive. I would always drive a BMW and ideally a Porsche on the side 😊
I don’t understand how you could have made this error, unless you hadn’t test drove the car before buying it. I had a M240i for a day while my M2 comp was in the garage and within an hour I could tell it was a gran tourer and not a sports car like the M2. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad car. If I needed to swap my Comp in for a daily, the M240i is what I’d go for.
It's quite easy. There were no cars registered for test drives. Once I drove it, I instantly knew it wasn't it. I drove it for a couple of months and sold it. No big deal
I just don’t see any really good looking cars like the m2 you had, I truly think it’s stunning, you ever driven the porche 991.1 ? I’ve only heard good things about porches would like to get your opinion on one, or any Porsche 911 for that matter
I bought a m240i xdrive coupe 2024 last month like it but coming from Audi rs3 I don't like the 130 limiter I didn't spec it bought it off lot and didn't know it was only 130 now I'm ready to sell unless spend 3k more to unlock ecu
I have the cooling\high performance package so it's set to 155. If you don't have this package than I believe the limiter is set to 130 but you might want to look at Tires under your setting. There should be an option to pick speeds >100 and speeds 100 (greater than 100) you will be limited to 130 by default.
Nice review man! Last year I was trying to figure out if I should get this M240i RWD or a used M2 Competition. Got a Comp with only 8000km and I’m enjoying the car since then. I was wondering how it would’ve been to get the M240i. In this video I got a lot of hints that I made the right choice. Well see which one holds it’s value better. Thanks and keep it up!
quite big differences. The RS3 is FWD most of the time, while this is RWD. The Audi is more practical, but this is faster. I will say thought, surprisingly for me, the RS3 is the better handling car. I loved it, but the price of the Audi was just too high for me
BMW usually underrates the power of its cars. So the M240i is actually close to 400hp. And considering the superior 4wd system, it's going to be faster than the rs3. Not by much...
At 2:15...yes that it is correct. Sir with all your knowledge...it didn't fail, you misinterpreted. The 240/340/440 are highly edged Tourers...But thank you for the video ;-)
Sir ~ There are numerous videos by entities on TH-cam with hundreds of thousands of followers that have reviewed the M240 through the last few years. You stated you have owned many "sports cars" yourself...so You thought/interpreted it to be a "sports' car...and furthermore without test driving it first? So you were impatient and taking a risk...as you say. This is why I tell friends and family to base large buying decisions on large well established sources. Throttle House, Hagerty, Car Wow, Edmunds etc...Thank you again for the real world review/admission Sir @@TunedIntoCars
No offense, but that's very bad advice. Any purchase this big should only be based on how you personally feel about that car. If you don't like it, don't buy it no matter what any journalist says. And yes, i did buy it without a test drive because, again, there were no test drive cars in Sweden.
I advise people who want additional means of making a decision to review major reputable sources. I don't need to advise them to 'actually' test drive the car to make their final decision...they know to do that...and how it feels for them is just 'understood'. My point here is you have stated you have owned lots of sports cars and still got it wrong with your interpretation...even though highly respected "journalists' out there have already stated it is not M2-like (not a sports car)...had you done that research? Fair to say...all people should do their research wisely and thoroughly before making a purchase. So even reviewing people who got it wrong, is valuable - no offense =-) @@TunedIntoCars
I don't advise people. The only thing I reply to people asking me about cars is to go and drive it for themselves. No matter how much 'research' you do, until you drive the actual car you will not know if you like it or not. Both M240i and M2, new generations, are far from the old cars. They are more GT than sports car. So even if I would've bought the M2 instead of the M240i, the end result would be the same: I would sell it.
I have ordered a 2024 M240i and suspect I'll plenty pleased with it. That said, Paul, I agree with your summation. I fully expected to say you were full of shiite, but no. You were simply being honest and accountable for your decision. I respect that. As you stated "I bought the wrong car". Cheers, thanks for the useful reviews.
Keeping what you said in mind about your main reason for selling it, would you recommend me to go for an 2020 M340i or a 2018 F80 M3? The fastest car I've owned is an M140i, now on a 435d GC but I miss the power and the sound🥲
test drive them both and see which one you like. But they are quite different cars. The M3 is the more fun car, 100%, but the M340i is easier to live with, has better tech and so on. If you're only interested in the driving aspect, I'd say M3. So you need to figure out what you want before deciding.
I own both - the LC500 is a great GT car, the 240i (X drive is the one I have) is .. similar but I feel a bit more responsive in certain aspects. It's slightly apples to oranges, but they're both great in their own right. Comfort though overall for long trips, LC all the way.
Not sure yet. The manual Supra is close, price wise, to a 981 Cayman S. And in that case, I would definitely pick the Porsche. But I will decide next spring, probably
That could be the problem indeed. But I still think it's BMW's mistake, as you can't really sell a sports car that only works properly with a specific suspension setup...
@@user-cv7ey6fb4c I got a 240i as a rental and it was a quick rabbit but like most cars these days, the electronic steering is just so numb. And it’s not just BMW.
@@TunedIntoCars I have had 718 2.5L Cayman S, but now i have kept 987 3.4L Boxster S as my weekend/summer car. It is totally analog and raw driving experience with proper hydraulic steering wheel, old school NA flat six without turbo, and relatively lightweight. Daily a Model 3 Performance which is the opposite, fast, digital, high tech and costs almost nothing to run. So perfect combo.
Exactly what can be expected from a 'car for everyone'. I'm not interested in tech, comfort, 0..60 times top speed or whatever. Only fun on B-roads and cornering and slow enough to not danger your driver's licence. So, after owning a 2002, E30 2.7 (tuned) Peugeot's GTI, Golf V GTI I now ended up with an UP! GTI and an MX5. Most interesting car for me of any car is the Alpine A110, however I do not like automatics. Don't care about any supercar.
If you have the cash to go up to an M2, for sure you'll be getting a better car. My only issue with the new M2 is that with BMW's price hikes, it's now just as expensive as a Cayman GTS 4.0
Yeah cars are crazy expensive now. I was thinking about a used M2 Comp F87. Or something completely different like a X3M Comp pre LCI - they are good value at the moment compared to a M3 xdrive and it seems like they are very sporty despite being a SUV. New M2 maybe a good deal in 1-2 years because the think it’s not very loved because of its looks.
Never heard so much bullshit. I drive the M240i Xdrive and it is the perfect allrounder. Stage 1 tuned it is VERY fast but also very comfortable. Just a very good car.
I have a 2022 bmw m240i and it feels like a cheap economy piece of garbage to be honest. Every time I think about it, makes me disappointed in myself for buying it. BMWs just feel like cheap garbage in my experience these days, and they're only getting worse with cost cutting even remove buttons to save money?? Like really bmw. They're soo damn cheap.
I wasn't foolish at all. As I've explained, the car was offered at a big discount and I took the gamble to see what it's like. Didn't work out and sold the car at a minimal loss, after 10.000kms.
Great video. Ironically your reasons for why it didn't work were almost exactly what I want, but this was still very helpful.
Current M240i owner and I agree it is more of a GT coupe than a sports car. That's exactly what I was wanting so I'm very pleased with the car.
