Had a 13 Mini…returned it. Thought it too small. Then, went back to the Apple Store one week later and bought another one. Glad I did. Missed the size after going back to my huge Motorola 6.8” slab of a phone. Mini is a gem. May not have the sales numbers, but the enthusiasm for this little phone is quite apparent amongst its happy owners. Thanks for the videos!

Steve Jobs was absolutely against making the iPhone bigger exactly for the reasons you cited. He took a lot of heat from the consumer and tech communities. I wish Apple continued with the mini models.

    • @PocketCams

It’s interesting that he died after the iPhone 4 was released and before the 5 - which was slightly taller. And it’s all been pretty much bigger since then. Remember when small meant premium, before the social media and media consumption through mobile screens era?

    • @notforposers
      @notforposers 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

@@PocketCams I do remember when smaller was premium haha. I also remember the original iPhone came with a dock, until a lot of these tech reviewers kept saying “I’ll never use this, idk why they include it?” I remember thinking stfu they’ll just start charging for it as an added accessory. Now we pay more and receive less... go figure.

Steve Jobs wouldn't have understood the whole social media craze or gaming craze that's taken over the use of phones, and even if he did he would have made the phone bigger too. It's a space constraint that makes the phone bigger and he would have understood this. Nothing would have been different, except maybe we'd have been getting tech in the iphones long before Android phones... but he's no longer with us so we got stuck with being a few years behind other devices.

After my 12pro was stolen, I switched to the 13 mini, a few weeks later the 14s were released. Even though I love to purchase the latest and greatest, I've not had the itch to move up to the 14. I love the 13mini's size and balance, the way the wallet fits flush with the mag case, and the cameras are adequate for my needs. I plan to keep this for a while except if apple releases another mini.

I have been waited for the smaller phone since years then finally replaced my iPhone XS by 13 mini.
Its best phone i had ever, 5.4" is still big enough screen to write emails, posts on socials and watching YT videos or gaming. No more larger phone ever if possible.
It lays in pocket perfectly no matter you're in work or on sport activities like running or biking, and completely no issues with battery working time - one day of very active up to two days when i am not using phone a lot.

I wound up in a similar situation-- went from a broken 12 mini to the 14 pro this past week after my mini took an unfortunate leap. The 14 pro is gorgeous and was meant to be a moment to treat myself to something big and fancy, but after a few hours of lugging the huge thing around I had a good cry over how much I missed my tiny, super light, and super cute mini! It is just SO ridiculously heavy. I can imagine if I'm goofing around on my phone in bed, all I'd have to do is drop it on my face and come out with a broken nose or a black eye. Maybe both. It just does not feel good to handle, even less so in my tiny hands, and it makes me wonder if they bothered to get feedback on how these absolute bricks feel to hold and use day to day...
I've gone and gotten my mini's screen replaced and I went right back to using it, but I'm not so excited about the prospect of returning the pro. In fact, I'm hoping it grows on me like a fungus. I do like a lot of what it has to offer...it's just...heavy enough to be a weapon, which isn't a feature I particularly want out of my phones. I'm sure it's handy in some cases, but if I'm using a chunky phone to defend myself, I'm probably in a rough spot anyhow. Many thanks for your video, it helped me feel quite a bit better knowing I'm not the only one struggling with the mini to pro switch!

Thank you! I've happily held on to my iPhone 6 since 2015, I think? -- and figured it was about time to upgrade. I just want to be able to take pictures in the dark, basically, and be able to use a few apps that my 6 won't support. For whatever reason I started shopping around on Amazon, found the refurbished 13 Minis for T-Mobile at $479, and thought it was time. Every single review I watch, people love their 13 Minis. Mine arrives on Tuesday!
I tend to keep my stuff in good condition over the long haul and keep it going until it dies -- "drive it into the ground," as Click & Clack The Tappitt Brothers used to say. My 2010 Honda Element (which I bought new) now has 308,000 miles. Going for a million.

I got a 13 mini to replace my 8 plus which was around 5 years old, the battery went out on it and didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a battery when I could chip in just a few more hundred dollars and get a brand new phone. I've had my 13 mini for about 3 months now and I love it. It's strange how so many people just write off the mini series as bad or small.
It's easy to hold and I never drop it due to being able to easily grip it with one hand as these bigger models basically require both hands. It's easy to fit in your pocket and doesn't take up space no matter where or what you put it in. If you're somebody who just needs to call, text and have basic apps like say Fox News,The Weather Channel, a local news channel app and basic social media aps maybe a few games then you are perfect for a phone like the 13 mini.
Maybe if people are the type who use their phone for hours and hours daily then perhaps battery is a issue for you. Since that is the top compliant I see, but personally I've never had that issue and the size of it was the REASON I bought the mini, I think the people who bashed the mini series for it's size missed the whole mini part but I digress.

Yup, agree with all that. I think it's also a great entry point for digital minimalism too - if you're looking to simplify your online life - but you don't want to go all-in on a dumbphome. I'm going to make some videos about that too.

I agree with you 100% in this video. Had a Samsung s20 fe & also iPhone 12 Pro Max and after a while of using those phones, the big screen, heaviness, and bulky feel to it really was bothering me despite the phones being very good. I just bought the Iphone 13 mini. Coming from iPhone SE 2020, it was a great update. The phone overall was much smooth. And as I use my phone on One hand constantly, it was a life saver. Don't know what I am going to do in the next years now that the mini line up is gone. I guess Apple will come up with a SE line with similar size and specs to that of the mini.

Your not alone brother. I had iphone original, 2, 3g, 4s, 5s then had 6s for a long time since it was so good and didn’t want bigger phones.
Finally it started feeling dated so i bought a 11 pro and i was disgusted. It was soo heavy, it cramped my hands. I sold it and got a iphone se while i desperately waited for a smaller phone. Couple months later 12mini got announced. I rejoiced in happiness. Ive had 12 mini since release day. Would of got 13mini but i saw it was basically the same phone just thicker and heavier (no good for me) now that minis have been canceled my future is not looking bright for apple :/
The 11 pro 5.8 was perfect it was just too thick and heavy it was metal. If they can make a new generation mini with that same size of 11 pro 5.8 screen and slim with light aluminum it would be a Banger!!! However after having the phone for more then a week i realized that its alot more compact for me and works well for me esepcially one handed. So i don't miss it all that much and losing out on that one extra camera lense is not a deal breaker for me as i can tell the differnce in sound and camera quality from the previous phone.

Probably not til next year and it’s also nowhere near as high spec as a Mini - bigger dimensions too.

I got an SE 2020. It is the cheapest iPhone. I like it very much. I’ve never liked small phones. But I really love my Apple products. I also find that my iPad 13 Pro is one of the best electronics I’ve ever had.

I have a 13 Mini and it works for me because I stream off it. Music goes to a speaker, maps go to my car's dashboard and movies go to my TV screen. I see it as a base. I hardly use the phone. Maybe the odd text. I dont need a huge iPhone for those things. Just a powerful iPhone.

Same as yourself. I’ve just got my 2nd iPhone 13 mini today, having felt my 14 pro max was too big and heavy. I marvelled at the size of it when I took it out of the box and familiarised myself with it weight and stature. But…I’m slightly alarmed at its battery life. It dropped 5% watching your video. It’s showing 100% battery health so I’ve either been spoiled by the 14 pro max battery or the battery health has been reset on this new to me, used 13 mini. I’ve got a genuine MagSafe Apple battery coming today but I do prefer to have my wallet attached to the back of my iPhone. I s😅till love the size, power and value of the 13 mini though.

I had the 13 mini for a week before I returned it.
Coming from the 8, I preferred the compact size and form of the 13 mini over the 14 plus that I ultimately bought.
I liked it overall but the dealbreaker for me was the notch. I couldn't stand how pronounced the notch was on the 12 mini, and the 13 mini was no different as it dug deeper into the display.
Knowing that dynamic island digs even deeper than notch 2.0 tells me we won't see another mini until FaceID goes under the display.

Hi! New to your channel and new to the Apple family! Bought the IPhone 13 mini for size and trying to adapt to a more minimalist lifestyle. Anyways, would you be down to post a video of cases for this phone in particular ?

    • @PocketCams
      @PocketCams  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey there - thanks for writing. And welcome to the Apple fam :) I prob won't be posting a video about cases, as in NZ they tend to be pretty expensive, and as a small channel right now, I;m keeping expenses down. This is the one I use though, if that's helpful: www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MPPSGP03311/Spigen-iPhone-13-mini-54-Liquid-Crystal-Case-Cryst. Check out my new video series on Digital Minimalism though - it might interest you. Just a couple of videos there for now, but a new one every 2-3 weeks in that series coming. Cheers!

Mini is the best. I went from iPhone 4, to a lot of Androids, to iPhone SE 2, to iPhone 13 Mini. To me, iPhone 4 was the best design Apple ever put on an iPhone and the 13 Mini feels just like an up-to-date version of it.

I am exactly in the same predicament! There is something just too top heavy in the iPhone 14 Pro, especially if you add a cover and lens protector. I think many of us (perhaps slightly older folks, and especially those coming from a smaller form factor like an SE or Mini) with a more practical use case (phone is less of social media tool and more of a call and stream whilst on the move device) are finding the balance of the new 14 Pro just too awkward for comfort on the go. I too struggle with the pocket discomfort. I do enjoy the ease of viewing and typing on a large screen, but the dynamic island is frankly a let-down, always on display is kept off as it drains battery and I too feel like I am going to drop the phone whenever I use only one hand.
I am still on the fence as to the cameras too. I bet those who really value film and photo quality can make a strong case for this phone - and my old SE was certainly nothing to shout home about in either of the those departments…
I am giving myself another 24hours, but the mini 13 could be the way to go given the cameras are a big step up from the SE. Or, I’ll just learn to adapt to the 14 Pro as I guess we all can do given a little time, knowing that it should be future proof for some time.
Gosh, if it could just loose 40 grams and a bit of that top heavy feel (oh, and bring back Touch ID!)- It would then be perfect! Don’t tell me that I have just described the iPhone 15…!?

Call and stream on their phone. So true, and I think many people seem to be using their phones in this way now. The 13 Mini is perfect for this.

I ve got my 13 mini for a few months by now and this thing is a joy to use it's soo light and small, even if apple didn't sell it anymore i was able to snag a product red 512 GB one from backmarket with 100% battery health,I will keep this phone for a long time since there is truly nothing like it on the market anymore, also I was scared that the battery would be pretty bad but it lasts me all day with no issues(that's on ios 15.5,idk how it is on ios 17 since I didn't update)
