How you doing folks? A slight change to our schedule this Sunday. Here we have our classic Top 10 Classic JRPG list following on from last weeks video where we talked about our Top 10 JRPG games on the Nintendo Switch which you can view here th-cam.com/video/qCAdJIMEa7w/w-d-xo.html but what about the classics you asked? Well here is that video! Enjoy, Bargains will be out on Tuesday after our physicals video from Jordan which is every Monday. Enjoy another battle between Jordan and I and let us know for fun who you think chose the better games! Thanks guys
I feel ya. I skipped Saga Frontier back during the PS1 era, even though during that time I was consuming every RPG I could find. Currently playing through it on Switch and it's both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. lol
Finally got around to playing star ocean first departure a few months back. Very cool. Can't wait for so6. Not gonna get my hopes up but even if it's average/bad like so5 it's still my favourite series.
Yes! First Departure R is definitely worth playing. Be warned though: at the beginning the random battles are SO frequent it'll be maddening until you put some points into the Scouting skill. Then you can use the ability to decrease the encounter rate to a more comfortable pace.
Although I am late, just wanted to take the time to say Happy Birthday Juan! You have no idea how much you guys have helped Nintendo Switch owners & just gamers in general. Thank you for all you guys do & keep up the great work guys!
Thanks Brandon! Appreciate it buddy and glad in some way we can be of help. We just enjoy games and only recommend what we have enjoyed ourselves. Thankd again buddy
I played Tales of Vesperia for the first time on the switch and loved it. Definitely need to play some of these older games that have been brought to switch.
well, can play it perfectly on a CFW switch (Atmosphere) using emulator. But obviously only if you want to hack your switch (and if it is hackable at all). PPSSPP emulator is nearly perfect on Switch too, btw. PSP has a lot of great JRPGs (and not only JRPGs).
Romancing Sage 3 is on sale in he eshop right now, I liked your clips of it, looks much better than the eshop gallery photos so I'll pick it up. Oh haha I remember fantasy star and walking those corridors, I didn't have it but my friend did. 🧙♂️
I am so glad i already have all of these games. I took a little breather from purchasing anything new, only spent $1,500 less. Wished that they would release Star Ocean on physical for the Switch. It deserves to live on outside of PSP for physica game collectors like myself.
Hoping for Breathe of Fire IV and III 🙏🏽 Also looking at Valkyrie Profile (but already in mobile), DQVII (remade for DS). Team 🧙🏻♂️ just because FFIX is my personal bias :))
Sorry it’s his birthday, so gotta go with Juan 🧙♂️, plus he mentioned Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean First Departure R. Any chance that they will ever come out with Star Ocean Second Evolution and have both games on a physical cart?
🧙♂️ all of these games are awesome! I'm glad I have all of these on Switch except for 3 of them, I need to get those in the collection. Star Ocean First Departure, Romancing Saga 3 & Saga Frontier.
Its hard to rank classics since childhood nostalgia really affects the rankings but FF7, grandia, secret of mana and star ocean are some of my most memorable ones. Now im really hoping for that 2.5hd remake of dragon quest 3 to be really good but all ive seen is a trailer and no more after that
100% agree with that Rodel but still fun to revisit those games and memories we think. In all honesty, these are all quality games we think even without Nostalgia. Thanks again!
There are a lot of great games on both of those lists and they also each contain one of my favorite games of all time, those being Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and Phantasy Star. Keep up the excellent work and great lists like the ones in this video are why SwitchWatch is the most tasteful Switch-focused channel on TH-cam. Also, for fans of the Phantasy Star series, the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Classics Collection on the Switch contains Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Star III, and Phantasy Star IV. Being able to play all four of the original main games in the series on a single console without having to worry about aging save batteries in cartridges is yet another thing that makes the Switch so appealing.
Jordan and Juan got both of my vote split down the middle. Both list games I enjoy playing since I was middle school. Tales of vesperia, ff7, SMT, and star ocean.
Solid bangers all around! Damn fine picks from both sides, but Juan's picks of Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean are what won me over. Though there can only be one winner between you two, I think us as the viewers are the real winners here. Cheers, lads! 🧙♀️💚
Both of you had awesome lists, I own most of these. And the rest are on my list to buy soon. I'd have to agree with FF7, but collection of mana and grandia are close seconds. 🗡
I've actually only ever played Phantasy Star out of all of these games🧙♂️, which actually makes this a really exciting list of games to pickup. And to play. Eventually. Still need to pickup the FF VII/VIII cart, Romancing Saga 2 & 3, Grandia HD, Legend of Mana, Dragon Quest collections, and Star Ocean FDR.
Final Fantasy VII was basically one of the reasons I wanted a Playstation in the first place. Also one of the commercials is how I knew about the Franchise at the time. My only clue of what Final Fantasy is like was in Super Mario RPG with a Boss called Culex which has the FFIV Boss Theme and the first time ever hearing the trademark Victory Fanfare. Again, at the time I had to choose between the original Playstation and Nintendo 64. If I chose Nintendo 64, I would have played Super Mario 64, but if I chose Playstation, I would have played Final Fantasy VII. In the end, me and my brothers went with Playstation. Because of that, I've been a Fan of Resident Evil, Metal Gear, Tekken, Ehrgeiz, Bushido Blade and Alone In The Dark. Also Symphony Of The Night is how I know about the Castlevania Series.
Hard to pick between your two lists. FF7 and Grandia 1 are easily my favorite RPGs from the 32 bit Era... but Phantasy Star is my favorite 8 bit RPG and Vesperia my favorite Tales of.
Hello team, great choices… I think I have only played one or two among them all XD. My vote 🗡 mainly because you mentioned Trials of Mana and that is my all time favorite. even though I played the Switch 3d version. I actually think you should have used those graphics instead XD
Final Fantasy 6, in the form of its original western release Final Fantasy 3 on the SNES, was my first FF game (even though I played it at my cousin's house) and still my favorite after all this time. Made me wanna play World of Final Fantasy all the more so I could finally have the MagiTek Armor in my party.
I'm going with Jordan because Juan picked Tales of Vesperia. Not that Vesperia isn't a great game, but if it's considered a classic, then I'm old and I don't want to be old yet.
I get what you’re saying about the classic squenix games. Myy passion is srpg’s so my “FF7 moment” was “The Legend of Heroes A Tear of Vermillion” on PSP x Also I’m desperate for Tales of Graces f port to the Switch that would be amazing Oh and Happy Birthday Juan but sorry Jordan just nicks it ⚔️⚔️⚔️x
Grandia I *all the way*, forever more. My first jRPG, the like of which I've never played again. Except for Grandia I again. And again. And again. Oooh, and that sweet Noriyuki Iwadare music
⚔️ Thanks used your coupon code and saved 12.00! I bought almost all the games you recommended (most were already in my list haha) the code pushed me to buy today. Thanks again guys great content
Cool list though I'm not a fan of any of the games mentioned lol (at least the ones I played of them). For me Skies of Arcadia, Shadow Herats & Radiant Historia are my favorites old school RPGs 😌
Okay but really, I don't know who to pick for this one. You both picked amazing games. Smt 3 and phantasy star 1 being some of my favorites.... I don't care you both get a vote from me. Its way too hard to pick a winner when you both kept pulling out games that I love to death.
Technically Jordan's list is better but I don't like ff7 at all so I guess I can't pick sword. Lol 🧙Plus I liked the one story in his childhood a lot. Very funny and relatable.
Ah man this is a hard pick on one hand one of you picked legend of mana and SaGa frontier remastered but then other guy picked dq3 and romancing saga 3.
good list once again, would´ve picked ff 9 over 7, but 7-9 are all masterpieces, yea even tripple triad :F cant go wrong with any of them.. just... legend of mana over secret of mana and especially trials of mana? thats a hugely disappointing pick^^ the sega ages version of phantasy star 1 was really good and wished, sega would have done the same for 2-4.. tho you can play them at least with genesis / megadrive classics collection. also: sadly we cant put chrono cross in there.. yet :(
I played through SMT III for the first time ever a couple weeks back and the game is incredible. The only thing I found dated about it were the graphics. Even so I still found the game to be visually pleasing. Now I love the series and have racked up 50+ hours into SMT V.
🧙♂️Juan for the win! He didn't cheat, and sympathy points for being over 40, AND only having an hour a day video game play time as a kid. Oof! JRPG I would like on the Switch? Suikoden.
Surprised Tales of Vesperia is on this list when Ni No Kuni, which is also from the PS360 Generation, is on the other list. Both lists are great but Jordan wins. Why? Because like any true fan Jordan can't help himself... he just has to pack as many game as possible onto his list because he loves the genre that much.
How you doing folks? A slight change to our schedule this Sunday. I’m still waiting for Lunar 1 and 2 for switch.
Much needed list! Thanks for this
Thanks and enjoy
Star Ocean looks like a great one! Love how you play a genre of game for your life and still have some gems to check out lol Great list 👏👏
Thanks so much buddy!
I feel ya. I skipped Saga Frontier back during the PS1 era, even though during that time I was consuming every RPG I could find. Currently playing through it on Switch and it's both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. lol
still can't get over this star ocean don;t get physical ed :(
Finally got around to playing star ocean first departure a few months back. Very cool. Can't wait for so6. Not gonna get my hopes up but even if it's average/bad like so5 it's still my favourite series.

Both list are full of gems! I have to go with Jordan again. SMT and legend of mana two of my favorites that I have a ton nostalgia for! 🗡
I played Tales of Vesperia for the first time on the switch and loved it. Definitely need to play some of these older games that have been brought to switch.
Quality, glad you enjoyed it!
Nice format. Thank you.
'Tasty double pack of 7 and triple triad' Lol! 7 is my favorite as well and though I do like 8 quite a bit I fully support your abbreviation :D
Thank you!
I dream of the day we get skies of Arcadia remastered on the switch
Would be sweet!
well, can play it perfectly on a CFW switch (Atmosphere) using emulator. But obviously only if you want to hack your switch (and if it is hackable at all). PPSSPP emulator is nearly perfect on Switch too, btw. PSP has a lot of great JRPGs (and not only JRPGs).
Happy Birthday! My birthday was Thursday, the 9th, and I was a Master System kid too! Phantasy Star is still amazing, in my book!
Great stuff thanks very much!
I love Grandia 1 - it was such a unique experience when I played it as a child and it has lost nothing of its charm over the past years.
Thanks for taking the time to comment 😃
Got a few additions for my wishlist. Thanks
Enjoy buddy!
I got Saga Frontier recently. Enjoying it so far.
🧙♂️alone for Phantasy Star.
And happy birthday, Juan!
Thanks very much indeed!
Very fun video, congratulations guys. While on the previous video it was an even match, this time Jordan ⚔️ takes the 👑, no question.
All of these games are basically must play games. What an amazing line up of JRPG's
Thank you very much indeed!
🤩😍 such a good list. Good close out with saga frontier and star ocean. Solid finish. 🤘
It's a toughie for real. 🗡🧙♂️; fuse for a battlemage.
Romancing Sage 3 is on sale in he eshop right now, I liked your clips of it, looks much better than the eshop gallery photos so I'll pick it up.
Oh haha I remember fantasy star and walking those corridors, I didn't have it but my friend did.
🧙♂️
Sweet thanks man and enjoy!
DQ and Phantasy Star gotta pic 🧙. Happy birthday Juan!
Cheers buddy!
Great list I'm going for the under dog 🧙
Legendary! Thank you, Juan!
I am so glad i already have all of these games. I took a little breather from purchasing anything new, only spent $1,500 less. Wished that they would release Star Ocean on physical for the Switch. It deserves to live on outside of PSP for physica game collectors like myself.
Roms man, all free. You can do roms on phone now.
I had no idea Switch has Star Ocean! Thank you! Getting this ASAP!
You are welcome!
SMT Nocturne and FF games are now gems of all times, a must play option for sure
Hoping for Breathe of Fire IV and III 🙏🏽
Also looking at Valkyrie Profile (but already in mobile), DQVII (remade for DS).
Team 🧙🏻♂️ just because FFIX is my personal bias :))
Cheers buddy!
I can only hope star ocean 2 comes and they do a two pack physical
Would be awesome!
Good lineup, if only I could get used to these turn based strategy games.
Sorry it’s his birthday, so gotta go with Juan 🧙♂️, plus he mentioned Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean First Departure R. Any chance that they will ever come out with Star Ocean Second Evolution and have both games on a physical cart?
what is the name of the backgrounds songs you use in this video?
🧙♂️ all of these games are awesome! I'm glad I have all of these on Switch except for 3 of them, I need to get those in the collection. Star Ocean First Departure, Romancing Saga 3 & Saga Frontier.

Thanks buddy!
Happy belated birthday Juan! Sorry trials of mana and legend of mana were the swing games to persuade me. 🗡️⚔️
Awesome buddy thank you for you vote.
🗡 thanks for the list guys! I've been looking for more jrpgs!
You are most welcome 👍
Jordan and Juan got both of my vote split down the middle. Both list games I enjoy playing since I was middle school. Tales of vesperia, ff7, SMT, and star ocean.

Fantastic comment, thank you very much indeed 😃👍
What's a banger? Sounds like some kind of process of hammering onto a nail in a wall😕
When Jordan chose Smt Nocturne I was going to be farmed. But seeing the love for Phantasy Star you’ve got to go 🧙♂️. I want to see Tales of Symphonia
Legendary! Thanks so much buddy 😃
Both of you had awesome lists, I own most of these. And the rest are on my list to buy soon. I'd have to agree with FF7, but collection of mana and grandia are close seconds. 🗡
🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡 You had me at FF7, but you threw in extra icing with Grandia.
What a legendary list, guys! Keep it up :-)
Thanks very much
Jordan coming in hot with FF7 and then his finishing move with SMT3!!! 🗡
Massive! He got me on those 2 but a lot of folk giving me some love for my choices. Love to hear all your opinions!
I've actually only ever played Phantasy Star out of all of these games🧙♂️, which actually makes this a really exciting list of games to pickup. And to play. Eventually. Another wizzy, awesome!
SMT 3 is one of my favs and looking forward to playing Grandia and FF VII on Switch so 🗡 for me.
🧙 Star Ocean really does it for me. I loved that game growing up. So many on list I haven’t tried though so I think I’ve got some classic games to try
Thanks so much buddy 😃
All must play games. Think I'd go for Star Ocean this time though
Hard to pick between your two lists. FF7 and Grandia 1 are easily my favorite RPGs from the 32 bit Era... but Phantasy Star is my favorite 8 bit RPG and Vesperia my favorite Tales of.
My fav jrpg is definitely shin Megami tensei 3 despite only recently playing it , the gameplay and story was mind blowing
I'd freak out if we got the Sega ages versions of Phantasy Star 2 etc.
Hello team, great choices… I think I have only played one or two among them all XD. My vote 🗡 mainly because you mentioned Trials of Mana and that is my all time favorite. even though I played the Switch 3d version. I actually think you should have used those graphics instead XD
Thank you Elisa!
You had me at romancing saga 3!!!!
I only want a Vagrant Story remake for the Switch 😁😁😁 ⚔️
Final Fantasy 6, in the form of its original western release Final Fantasy 3 on the SNES, was my first FF game (even though I played it at my cousin's house) and still my favorite after all this time. I'm going with Jordan because Juan picked Tales of Vesperia. Not that Vesperia isn't a great game, but if it's considered a classic, then I'm old and I don't want to be old yet.
How do I chose. You only mebtined 2 games I don't own, and they're on the wishlist.
All good my friend just a bit of fun. Hope you enjoyed the video
Legend of Mana is my all time favorite game. ⚔️ for the win!
I get what you’re saying about the classic squenix games. Myy passion is srpg’s so my “FF7 moment” was “The Legend of Heroes A Tear of Vermillion” on PSP x
Also I’m desperate for Tales of Graces f port to the Switch that would be amazing
Oh and Happy Birthday Juan but sorry Jordan just nicks it ⚔️⚔️⚔️x
All good Felice! Just fun, Jordan has this round, I will do my best on the next one!
Grandia I *all the way*, forever more. My first jRPG, the like of which I've never played again.
Except for Grandia I again. And again. And again. Oooh, and that sweet Noriyuki Iwadare music
my favorite star ocean was the on on PS2. it was super futuristic at the time and i’m surprised they were able to concept that at the time
4 games in at this moment 3 I already own the 4th one is already on my wantslist from before this video
Phantasy Star tops them all for me... but as a whole (and because it has no physical, very important), I have to go with *sword emoji*
Thank you!
⚔️
Thanks used your coupon code and saved 12.00! I bought almost all the games you recommended (most were already in my list haha) the code pushed me to buy today. Thanks again guys great content
Legend! Thanks very much!

That is what we like to hear Cam! Thanks buddy!
🧙♂️ 🧙♂️🧙♂️Dragon Quest 💪
Happy bday Juan 🥳 👴
Thanks buddy!
I'd go with the Sega collection. SO MANY JRPGS.
Romancing saga 3 looks excellent. I’m gonna throw that on the wish list
Great stuff Justin! Enjoy my friend
As soon as Jordan picked ff7 he got my vote 🗡
Legend of Mana is the best looking one for my taste and has a lot of great ideas
Great game for sure glad you enjoyed it !
Hmm... I lean toward Final Fantasy 7 myself, but also Dragon Quest in general tends to be my favorite. But then there's Mana... I'm gonna go with 🗡️
Thank you!
juan always picks a wizard like me and got me buy romancing saga 3(it may have been on sale) so he wins
P.s. Happy Birthday Juan.
Ff9 has something special I don't know what it is but I have it in every console
🧙♂️
Jordan, I agree with your picks, I would have loved to vote for you. But rules are rules
Legendary!
⚔️ my vote is for Grandia 1. I didn't play it until I was in my late 30s but it made me feel like a kid again. Oh, and it is better than FF7.
Thanks buddy!
What I want is a skies of Arcadia remaster. Don't change anything just make it playable for the switch.
I hope they add the cory in the house game. Not only is it the best anime game, but also the best jrpg in existence.
Would be awesome!
JRPGS, cheers guys 🤜 🙏
You are welcome!
Technically Jordan's list is better but I don't like ff7 at all so I guess I can't pick sword. Lol 🧙Plus I liked the one story in his childhood a lot. Very funny and relatable.
Thanks very much buddy!
They need to get off their various bottoms and get a physical copy of Star Ocean for Switch.
100%
🧙♂️ I got to go with Phantasy Star and Star Ocean as my favorites.
I just wish Phantasy Star had a physical edition on the Switch.
Ah man this is a hard pick on one hand one of you picked legend of mana and SaGa frontier remastered but then other guy picked dq3 and romancing saga 3.
Jordan: Replace "Final Fantasy VII" with your wife's name and give her that speech. She'll love you forever.
good list once again, would´ve picked ff 9 over 7, but 7-9 are all masterpieces, yea even tripple triad :F cant go wrong with any of them.. just... legend of mana over secret of mana and especially trials of mana? thats a hugely disappointing pick^^ the sega ages version of phantasy star 1 was really good and wished, sega would have done the same for 2-4.. tho you can play them at least with genesis / megadrive classics collection. also: sadly we cant put chrono cross in there.. yet :(
We want Chrono badly! Appreciate your thoughts!
🗡 loved all of the classic JRPG’s chosen but Final Fantasy 7 and Grandia did it for me
Awesome! Thank you!
I played through SMT III for the first time ever a couple weeks back and the game is incredible. The only thing I found dated about it were the graphics. Even so I still found the game to be visually pleasing. Now I love the series and have racked up 50+ hours into SMT V.
Awesome series! Glad you love it!
SMT IV (I am playing on PC using emulator) is also incredible game.
Nice list
🧙♂️Juan for the win! He didn't cheat, and sympathy points for being over 40, AND only having an hour a day video game play time as a kid. Oof! JRPG I would like on the Switch? Suikoden.
Thanks Collin! Awesome comment, much love!
Vesperia has the best characters of all Tales games. Star ocean first departure r is the only star ocean I've beat.
Quality game indeed 😃
⚔ cant find the sword, blame u jordan. Still stuck with nocturne
Great swords there man! Thanks
And the Oscar for best Phantasy Star story goes to... x
Thaks Judith! Hope you are well!
🗡️ Jordan indeed kicked ass here. FF7 is also my favorite game of all time, so it was settled right from the start.
Cheers buddy!
1 hour per day for playing?! I'm not alone! Wizzy Wizzy Wizzzzzard! :-)
Thanks buddy! Back in the day if my mum was not disciplined with me I would have played all day!
@@SwitchWatch the same ;-)
Surprised Tales of Vesperia is on this list when Ni No Kuni, which is also from the PS360 Generation, is on the other list. Both lists are great but Jordan wins. Why? Because like any true fan Jordan can't help himself... he just has to pack as many game as possible onto his list because he loves the genre that much.
Thanks for that buddy
I have to agree with Jordan, FFVII and Grandia 1 did it for me… oh, and Saga Frontier. So yeah… 🗡
Cheers Mario!
🧙♂️ star ocean tipped it for me
Thank you very much!
I wish they remaster Dragon Quest VIII to the switch. or to whatever platforms.
Mobile version plays perfectly fine, in my opinion. Played it fully on my android phone a few years ago.
