You could probably just play these 30 games for the next couple years and be good. Having these games on the go for the Switch just continues to show how the Switch is just the system to own even in 2024.
FFVI is a masterpiece, best villain in the series for me, he really makes you hate him. I would love to pick pixel remaster, but it so damn expensive here in brazil..
Great picks as usual. Want to shout out these underrated RPGs. BattleChasers: Nightwar. Not a "J"RPG per say, but like Echoes, heavily inspired by '90s JRPGs. It also acts as a continuation to the 90s Image comic of it's namesake. Also, maybe need to stretch the definition of JRPG, but really loved Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 on Switch. Huge roster of Marvel villains and heroes, familiar story, fun fan service, with pretty substantial DLC. Developed by Team Ninja and Published by Nintendo.
A majority of this list I already owned and there are definitely some titles I need to go back and play again. But right now I'm hooked on sea of stars I finally managed to pick up a physical copy and it really takes me back from the 16-bit era it's like I'm playing a mix of Chrono Trigger and secret of mana
Same. The Nintendo Switch has a great library of JRPGs and it never stops growing and I think it will continue to grow even well after the inevitable release of the Switch 2. I remember while researching that the PlayStation 3 continued to get JRPG support well after its successor the PlayStation 4 releases until 2017, with the release of Persona 5. It even got 2 Utawarerumono games and Tales of Berseria in 2016, alongside the PS4 and PS Vita version (for the former), but only in Japan. This just goes to show that some cosnoles refuse to die. I have a feeling the same thing will happen with the Switch, maybe even longer than the PS3 given its large install base. And because of its larger install base and continued success in its seventh year into eighth year, it will not have the same fate in which most PS3 versions of JRPGs stayed in Japan, which I find surprising because they released the Vita versions in America despite that system being a commercial failure in that region.
Interesting list appreciate the upload ❤ Xenoblade chronicles 2 was ironically the main reason I got a switch system in 2017 as I was not interested in any of the other games. Interesting to note that I have over 200 hours in X2 and 90 into torna the golden country. I’d actually suggest that playing torna first before Xenoblade 2 as I feel it gives a much better background for most of the cast in X2 and subsequently leaves you with a deeper connection to some of the characters. Xenoblade 1.. I am a bit embarrassed to admit I have about 260 hours into the game ( granted I’m on my third playthrough) How dose final fantasy 9 run on the switch? I have tried 5 different copies ( both physical and digital) and for some reason the games refuse to even play on my system 🤔 ironically I have had the same problem with astral chain and persona 5 Great video thanks Love the trails series ❤ just really wish cold steal 1 and 2 were available on the switch so I could complete the collection ( mostly as we are still missing the sky trilogy 😭)
About the awesome and nostalgic remake Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, I really liked it. As much as I admit it was an extreme dream come true. I also wish so, very much Mallow and Geno were no longer major characters only in the original and the remake versions of Super Mario RPG. They had such an awesome adventure with Mario, Bowser, and Peach. Whatever happens in the next great future, I am never ever giving up on and never ever thinking something very, very new and special will not happen since the remake. Always next time and we will see.
I gotta add Ys VIII to all the amazing games on the list! Def my favorite action rpg on the Switch. Dragon Quest XI, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and all the Xenoblade games are definitely in my top JRPGs on the Switch too. Amazing list!!
Thanks for this list. I've played quite a few of them but some have just not been on my radar. I will check them out. Especially Xenoblade series. I love your enthusiasm and knowledge for jrpg's. I've been a fan since the original Final Fantasy 7 and 8. I'm currently playing SMT V Vengeance and looking forward to Metaphor Refantazio.
Quick question: I never played a fire embtlem titel or a Xenoblade titel and they are both on sale now with the dlc for 60€. So what should i buy first?
i prefer xenoblade! but i like more action based combat. if you like something more strategic for gameplay and social sim-like fire emblem would be better
Xeno 2 Torna and Persona 4 are on the top of my backlog list ✌️ slipped through my net And damn SMT5 released 3y ago already?! Seems like yesterday. Such a gem check it out guys
OJ I notice you repeat alot of RPGs but one I hardly if at all see mentioned is Kingdoms of Amelur its really is a great game, they added an expansion in 2023. Why skip the awesomeness that is this game?
How so? I don’t expect a lot of people to buy it that already own the original. Ps5 owners are basically getting a brand new game while switch owners are getting an upgrade at full game price.
Why get them on switch when I can get them on steam? This video should be for switch exclusives only because the switch versions of third party releases tend to run worse than other platforms
What? Never heard about this, definitely don't let anything hold you back from XC3. I'm not a fan of the series, it was my first Xeno game, and it's one of the best JRPG I ever played. Such a good story and gameplay.
Whoever told you that is a liar and a Xenoblade hater. Allegedly. Don’t let other people’s negative opinions of a game hold you back from checking out that masterpiece. You’re doing yourself a disservice doing that.
You could probably just play these 30 games for the next couple years and be good. Having these games on the go for the Switch just continues to show how the Switch is just the system to own even in 2024.
Not mentioned so I want to give a shout out to Valkyria Chronicles and Valkyria Chronicles 4. Really fun games imo. Highly recommend them!
He is so right 🎉🎉🎉
They need to remake The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, EverOasis for Switch
FFVI is a masterpiece, best villain in the series for me, he really makes you hate him. I would love to pick pixel remaster, but it so damn expensive here in brazil..
I have to personally recommend Monster Hunter Stories 1 and 2, Stories 1 is out tomorrow. They're everything I wanted Pokemon to eventually be.
Love that you mentioned the OG Xenoblade Chronicles! An absolute gem and I’m still going on it!
Damn whenever I watch videos like this it's pretty much always a bunch of games I've already played before. I feel like a such a JRPG junkie lol
Always appreciate a NEO The World Ends With You shoutout, criminally underrated game that not enough people know of
Great picks as usual.

Freakin love this game. It’s so good that me

I’m playing it as well and loving it. The gameplay is pretty awesome and it’s not too easy.
Dude these deeper videos are some of the best contents you put out in a while. Keep them coming
Monster Hunter Stories games and Mario + Rabbids series are easy recommendations here, even if the latter may not be considered a true JRPG.
Thanks for the list. Recently bought a switch again and not up to date with jrpgs.

Og final fantasy 7 was on the ps vita too, I have it there
I have it on PS1, PSP, Vita, PS3, PS Classic and Switch 😂
Great video! First time on your channel. Earned a new sub. Good job.
Interesting list appreciate the upload ❤

So many great memories with all of these games. Couldn’t have picked a better list in my opinion
Glad you included The Legend of Heroes games. Those games are so good.
Awesome video. Love the longer jrpg content
Thank you so much for the detailed recap. Missed this episode but feel like I got to watch it with your awesome summary!
Decided to go ahead and trust you. Bought XBC3. After 4h alone it truly is… magnificent! I loved 2, but this one is special.
Thanks the rpg breakdown, and this is my first time coming across your page and your work. You now have a new fan.
I gotta add Ys VIII to all the amazing games on the list! Def my favorite action rpg on the Switch. Dragon Quest XI, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and all the Xenoblade games are definitely in my top JRPGs on the Switch too. Amazing list!!

Thank you for making this list
Absolutely brilliant video. Created a huge shopping list to add to my backlog.......thanks a lot, lol 😆
Unicorn overlord is fire emblem- done right 💪🏼
I have all of these games bro and more. You did a great job on this video.
Quick question: I never played a fire embtlem titel or a Xenoblade titel and they are both on sale now with the dlc for 60€.

i prefer xenoblade! but i like more action based combat. if you like something more strategic for gameplay and social sim-like fire emblem would be better
I can’t wait to play MH Stories 1 & 2 tomorrow
Xeno 2 Torna and Persona 4 are on the top of my backlog list ✌️ slipped through my net

We need more turn based RPGs again. A lot more.
Astral chain is sick, fuckin underrated
why am i watching this i dont have a switch 😭
The heart wants what it wants
OJ, I feel in this next direct we are going to see 2 shocker games coming to Switch. XENOSAGA & XENOGEARS will be shown off watch!
OJ I notice you repeat alot of RPGs but one I hardly if at all see mentioned is Kingdoms of Amelur its really is a great game, they added an expansion in 2023. Why skip the awesomeness that is this game?
2:52 this one reminds me of Chronos trigger
Ys Viii Lacrimosa of Dana is the best one.
For sure you forgot trails of cold steel 3 & 4
nintendo switch remake rpg games ;) thank you like FF tactics, legend of Dragoon
Xenoblade trilogy is amazing!
good stuff man.
Haven't played Xenoblade chronicles yet may need to check them out...not like my backlog isn't already massive lol
I wish they would port Xenoblade Chronicles X to the switch (or switch2 now).
how is baiten kaitos not on this list???? ain't no way. its a must buy
Damn good video 💪🏾💪🏾
Can you list the games in the intro
Its listed in the description
W video as always bro
Thought this said big 30 plays Nintendo lmao
hi OJ
You know what? It's gonna be pretty pathetic for Switch if SMTV vengeance sold more on ps than on Switch lul
How so? I don’t expect a lot of people to buy it that already own the original. Ps5 owners are basically getting a brand new game while switch owners are getting an upgrade at full game price.
It won't, lol.
it wont smt is a nintendo franchise now
Why? SMT V already sold more than a million exclusively on Switch alone. I highly doubt Vengeance will do those numbers on PlayStation.
@@Sayacalbees87 also if you have a PS5 ans a Switch, you're gonna get a much more premium experience on the PS5
There's that many switch JRPGs?
Theres even more than 30 im p sure
Dragon quest XI music is pretty terrible lol
Wow no Ni No Kuni? that's blasphemous.
The Switch is in a sad state.
Its like almost 10 years old it like 8 years right. It time for a new switch next Gen
You laughed out loud at SMRPG? Huh? Also, the Xenoblade games are awful.
The xenoblade games are def not awful. Maybe your taste of games are
Why get them on switch when I can get them on steam? This video should be for switch exclusives only because the switch versions of third party releases tend to run worse than other platforms
Why get them on Steam when physical copies are still alive on consoles /s
@@fullmetalgamer6062 for modding and better performance
Then do that. Like, what exactly are you adding? Not everyone has a gaming PC or other consoles.
Oook lol
monster hunter isn't an rpg bro. it's just an action game
Monster Hunter was always an action rpg
@@Deaththekid-.- nope it's just straight up action. i know it looks like an rpg but it's not
It's categorized as one, so it will always be referred to as that. Frankly it doesn't matter lol
It's def an rpg no doubt about it..
@@K1LoFoX no it's not it's just an action game with rpg elements
i hear xenoblade 3 localization is a mess, its the only that kinda hold me back playing the series
There are no problems with xenoblade 3 localisation and I've never heard anyone say that?
What? Never heard about this, definitely don't let anything hold you back from XC3. I'm not a fan of the series, it was my first Xeno game, and it's one of the best JRPG I ever played. Such a good story and gameplay.
Yeah I’ve never heard that before. Maybe if you’re allergic to British people, which is fair enough ngl
You're only hearing it from whinny minorities that never played the game.
Whoever told you that is a liar and a Xenoblade hater. Allegedly. Don’t let other people’s negative opinions of a game hold you back from checking out that masterpiece. You’re doing yourself a disservice doing that.
