John’s really putting that fretless bass to work on this song. I always mean it when I say that John McVie never gets the recognition he deserves as a bass player.
I disagree with all the other fleetwood mac fans. It's one of my favourite lost fleetwood mac songs. Its reggae. It's Stevie. It features one of the most unusual vocal arrangements I've herd. Just enjoy it.
I’m with you, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this song! The first time I heard it was December 1992, sitting on my couch in my first apartment and watching VH1, then I heard Stevie’s voice and about had a heart attack!! I was totally enchanted 😊 I went out that evening and got the box set!
Oh my gosh I thought you were going to say Stevie I almost started sobbing it’s still so sad though…. I was in a really bad ed 6-7 months ago when I use to love to listen to their music so I haven’t heard about it…
I love Fleetwood Mac and although this is an unpopular opinion, this song is actually one of my favourites and I don't even know why, I feel good when I listen to this track ^-^
I love the percussion on this track. That sampled beat at the very start, the timbales, and most importantly, the coolest tambourine track tucked away in the mix.
This is one of my favourite Fleetwood Mac songs; it never fails to remind me of the relationship between my best friend and myself. It's funky and lilting and a little haunting. I love it.
One of John McVie's best bass lines in any FM song..and that's saying a lot! Ever since they formed in the 60's and throughout ALL of their many variations of the band the Mac has always been one of the very best groups ever in music
IN CASE I HAVE EVER FORGOTTEN THIS SONG IS DEDICATED TO MY SON...WHO NOW DANCES AMONGST ANGELS... I MADE HIM GROW UP WITH FM AND THIS SONG WE SANG IN PERFECT HARMONY ON THE WAY TO SCHOOL EVERY AM. MOM STILL SMILES.
Well I will say this song came out in the 90s nit sure if the band was on and break. But I will say when it played on my radio at work I knew right off it was Fleetwood Mac not just Stevie Nicks and loved it .Today it's not played.on the air hardly if at all .But is one of my all time favorite Fleetwood Mac Tunes It in my playlist
Paper Doll" is a song by British-American band Fleetwood Mac. It was also released as a single exclusively in North America with The Chain as its B-side. I really enjoy this song! really catchy song. To beat it all off I just heard it this morning. I a have always love Fleetwood Mac And Stevie Nicks. Just reminded me of a person I met, and the words become really real to me, so Kudos to all on this song!!!! Love you Stevie!!
This song wasn't recorded for Behind The Mask, it was originally recorded for the 1988 Greatest Hits album but the band voted in favour of "No Questions Asked" for the album. This version is the 25 Years: The Chain one, wirh overdubs from Lindsey Buckingham, not the original recording.
I'm here, after listening to "Everywhere" which made me think of "Paper Doll"-you don't hear this one too much. This is Stevie Nics, right?..And "Everywhere" is..Christine..right? 😊🎶 I like both songs..but, you don't hear this too often..These are my 2 ✌ favorite songs. I ❤Fleetwood Mac!! I was really little when they were popular. 💕 🎤
As you know all about Fleetwood mac, why don't you let us, poor ignorant enjoy what we know. ;) Poor track or not I like this song and all fleetwood mac's songs I know.
My understanding is the cut was leftover demo from the 88 greatest hits w/Vito & Billy B, in 92 they included it in the Chain boxed set with additionally overdub guitar by Lindsey
fleetwood mac are quite possibly my favourite band of all time, there songs don't sound samey imo unlike some bands. but also they've got an unique style, cause of mixture of Lindsey Buckingham's pick and strum style guitar playing, Mick Fleetwood's drumming style, John McVie's Bass playing, Christine McVie's piano playing, and the three voices of Lindsey, Stevie and Christine that all imo are unique sounding voices but especially stevies voice, and then when all three voices of their voices are harmonised together it's just pure magic imo.
Stop giving Lindsey credit for this song. He only did back up vocals and background guitar. He was not a regular member of the group around this time. It was Billy Burnett and Rick Vito playing lead and rhythm on this song.
Lindsey only did back up vocals and some guitar work on this song.He was not a regular member of the band during this time. It's Billy Burnett and Rick Vito on guitars. Lindsey was off wrestling his ego so they could both fit on stage again. From the Behind The Mask era.
Donald Stewart you can keep reiterating all you want that Lindsey is as not a member of the band. It's gets old..we know it. But he indeed plays and sings on this song.
Not to reply to a year-old post, but Lindsey does in fact sing and play guitar on this song. It's his first recording with FM since 1987, and the only FM song to feature the lineup of Christine, Stevie, Billy, Rick, John, Mick, and Lindsey. Lindsey comes in at the end of the chorus with Stevie: "...fascinated by somebody else".
I love the music video for this and plus I was even happy when they showing a retrospective of their music videos including Tusk, Gypsy, Hold Me, Big Love, Little Lies, Seven Wonders, As Long As You Follow, Save Me, Love Shines, and I saw some other ones I am not sure about but other than that great song.
I have issue with the video for not showing Rick Vito who wrote the song with Nicks and John Heron. Vito played guitar and sang on the tune and was a full fledge member of the group after Buckingham left. Once again the music industry could care less about authenticity or giving credit where credit is due and simply slops shit together.
@@richardbusson5903 - I agree....but believe it or not Lindsey co-produced the song with Ricard Dashut but he’s uncredited. He also provided additional guitar work and vocals. Vito and Heron wrote the melody and chords....Stevie the lyrics. If you know anything about Lindsey, he’s a control freak and a studio perfectionist. If Lindsey participated in any way with producing this song, he would of probably took complete control. Richard Dashut and Lindsey were extremely close and Richard would of absolutely followed whatever creative ideas Lindsey put forth. Vito left FM (1991), along with Stevie...so, perhaps that is the reason he’s not given that much “face time” in the video, which was released in 1992.
Why don't they play music from the peter green era? They should play music from every phase of FM just to show how incredibly diverse their music catalogue is. How many people remember the Elmore James-inspired blues guitar riffs and Jeremy Spencer's wailing voice that kinda sounded like Muddy Waters?
No I don’t think so. Just slapped on the box set and forgotten about. I personally would LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear them do this song live! And all the new songs featured on the box set!! ❤❤❤
this is a really good song I have listened to it sang to it watched it and I wanna do that all over again Fleetwood mac have been through it all I feel closest to them sometimes like...I remember you and really do you know what I mean
This was recorded for '25 Years The Chain' a FM box set that came out in 1992. No Lindsey although he did have a new song on the box set. I think the song is great. :-) Stevie left the group right after I believe and not long after she did the Clinton thing at the White House. She didn't reunite with the band until 1997.
If this is the original video from 1992, it's interesting that they used footage of Lindsey since he was gone. Guess it could because of the looking-back nature of The Chain box set where this song is from.
@redletter2008 I know, right? Christine was able to add a warmth or a charm or some angle to Lindsey's songs and occasionally to Stevie's songs too that took them to a different level. I love the Say You Will album, I think it's great but her absence is painfully noticeable in my opinion.
"Stevie songs are among her best ever." I don't see how people can say that. I am a HUGE fan of Nicks--but this song doesn't even make sense to me. This Stevie nicks song I think was the last great song sung by this Fleetwood Mac artist. Without Fleetwood Mac. Steve would be nothing!!! Christine mcvie we love you and Lindsey and John,Mick too
John’s really putting that fretless bass to work on this song. I always mean it when I say that John McVie never gets the recognition he deserves as a bass player.
Yes, he is great, he also has an album.
Mcvie, astounding talent .....
Very underrated track. The bridge on this song is sensational.
Shoulda been a huge hit.

Every FM song is a good song. So don't feel bad. I just discovered it today and I love it.
I love the vocal overlays and it's awesome because the words are the same just offset. Brilliant ❤️❤️
Same! I love this song so much!
It is an awesome song!!!
This song is so much fun. And Christine back would be the bomb; just like when Lindsey returned. Each member is like a special ingredient.
Christine returned. Now Lindsey is gone.
RIP
One of those "lost hits" remastered in that excellent box set!!
I went nuts over this song when it came in December 1992. Still do actually. I listened to it so much I wore the tape out!
I love it.

I've always loved this song.

This song came out when I was but only 5 years old. Still remember how great it sounds after all these years.
Real pleasure to listening to this tune again after all these years. Just great music :)
You either have never heard their earlier work, or are being ignorant. This is a poor Fleetwood Mac track.
As you know all about Fleetwood mac, why don't you let us, poor ignorant enjoy what we know. ;)
Poor track or not I like this song and all fleetwood mac's songs I know.

👍 song still listening 2020!
This was from the burnette and vito era in 88 to 92. Which instead of finn and Campbell I wish they would have brought these guys back.

Greeat song unappreciated...Stevie on lead vocals

Great track.

Clever use of snippets from the "Tusk" music video, since the drums are reminiscent of that song.
the band was haunted by Lindsey here

Great song🤟
While I'll admit I can see why people dislike this, I personally love it.
I cant understand why anyone would not like anything Fleetwood Mac all there songs were awesome
