I bought a new rack and was really happy with it in regards to price, quality and functionality except for one thing...it doesn't work with my fatty and there are currently no extended straps available from yakima
I just purchased this rack which I think is still good enough for my family needs. But while getting myself familiar with its setup. I can already see 2 things it can improve. The black plastic around the tow ball connection area will get scratched or damaged very easily because that is the contact point to the ground when lifting and putting down. The rack has to be unfolded while sitting on the tow ball meaning if you are not using it, you have to take it off unless you always remember it is at the back sticking out while reversing and parking. Then when you store it back into the original eco friendly packaging, you will notice the need to tape the bottom of the box so it doesn’t fall out of the glued lid.
Nice review thanks. I'm in NZ and its been 3 years since your post and I am now caught out with the foldclick 2 which says it fits a 4" tire and it still doesn't. I have sent them a email on the Yakima page about that exact strap placement or length and not fitting BUT we will see where this goes. Don't want to DIY a fix because it will void warranty.
Hi there great review, it answered most of the questions i had about the rack. One problem i do have is that we bought the rack to transport my wife's new Mirida E-bike & found the the bike holding arms did not open wide enough to grip the section of the bike frame properly as e-bikes have a much bigger fame section compared to the conventional bike frames. Also when the lights are plugged in & the ignition turned on what seem to be the the reverse lights are on all the time! anyone else had this happen?
I noticed that problem with my Trek Rail I have the Foldclick 2. I understand that there are longer straps but I haven't got any yet, or tried extra straps from say Bunnings as I'm worried that even though Yakima says its ok for a 23kg ebike it is pushing the boundaries a bit. The wheel base doesn't allow me to use the straps you and I have found, are too short. I also had to buy an extra cross member adapter called a Clicktop for between the seat post and handlebar stem because of the thickness of the bikes tubes (battery etc) and not being able to fit the clamps around. I still haven't taken the ebike out yet on it. I also notice the rack swivels on the towball a bit and that was with just one 29 hardtail on board. I have to say I'm not too impressed so far even though the unit promises a lot and is built well there's a few design changes that need to be looked at to make it much better.
Nathan Campbell I returned this tack and went for the Thule easy fold xt3. More expensive but it has the option for longer straps which I bought with the rack then realised I didn’t need them because the original straps had enough purchase over the fatty tires. Functionality is the same as the reviewed rack and I haven’t had any issues with it. In all honesty I would’ve kept this rack if it had an option for my fatty because of the price
Great review - thank you. I ended up purchasing the justclick3 with additional +1 as we are a family of four. We had the same problem with straps for one of our bikes, so I purchased Yakima's optional longer straps. Is this not an option for foldclick?
I’ve just bought the JustClick 2 and found I needed the supplied tow ball as it was higher and wouldn’t click onto my original tow ball. What I’ve now found is it pivots from side to side on their tow ball and concerned it will bash into the car as your driving. I’ve contacted Yakima and waiting for their reply.
@@adrianchong7110 yes I received a solution from Yakima. If you look at the tow ball nut when you turn it side to side you will see it move. Yakima recommended I take it to a mechanic to have it tightened with a rattle gun. I ended up buying a socket and breaker bar and with the rack on the car tightened it up until it no longer moved. Been rock solid since. I had someone hold the rack while I tightened.

Now this review is 4 years old, does anyone know if there have been any improvements to this same rack now?
It will hard to sell this for the shop now that it’s used.
Did the wheels of the fatty fall into the mount? It was only the straps correct? I am thinking was it possible to add your own straps?
PERKO1966 yeh the straps were too short for the position they were screwed on. Longer straps would’ve done the job

The bike rack broke after 5 months from the date of purchase without suffering blows or accidents
