After initial fumble of Diablo 4, it has shown there’re options to compete for and given the game isn’t even the year old it might be just that. Similarly, the First dwarf came from a studio where they are able to hire ppl and have someone who’s calling themselves a CEO, that doesn’t sound indie to me anymore. And well, they’ve chosen a cute girl who’s enthusiastic about the project for this show and that was probably their biggest win. The game itself looks great, ngl, but the question is how it’ll play.

@OldSchoolDudeGaming With fighting games, you don't really know what you're getting into until you get your hands on it and other thing is, game balance. Hard to call it generic and TnA based on the only female character that actually fits that description. Sure, they strategically chose that character to be their poster child, but literally none of the other chars are anything like it. Overwatch did the same shit with Tracer, but it hardly relies on TnA. If we are talking about generic, the 4th and 5th game are of a dime a dozen in the indie market, and look boring and generic af after probably playing the first couple hours.
I really like OTK, and Asmon in particular getting involved in indie studios and game development. Asmon has pretty incredible foresight and now that he has the capital I think he is filling a void that he perceives in the industry, or a void that has been created by bigger game studios. Video game philanthropy. Investing in people that give a shit, cause the industry feels like there's too many suits wanting that fast buck at the expense of customer loyalty. All those major studios that made all those incredible games began much like this Wax Heart guy or any of these other developers they've showcased, They care about the experience about sharing that experience and bringing joy to the consumer. I think pixel pitch's aim is to reignite that engine and give rise to the next giants in the video game industry. Hopefully they'll be better than the last ones.

Waxhearth has way to many people working on it. First Dwarf has 8 people, which imho is a very nice team size for that kind of project. And let's be honest here, 9k is not much for 8 people. The promotion is worth way more. Indy game dev is so competitve right now. Hope they get some money to make a great game!

The Wax Heart project should have the character melt, the smaller the lantern light gets like a health bar, since the light is condensed. This would allow the player to pass certain tight space areas or get through spots they may almost fail at but at a health/wax cost. The lower the health, the more melted the character could be, making it slower and more difficult to move quickly past enemies throughout the rest of the level. It would literally be his Wax Heart and make the game tie together much better. Peppered should allow you to get back to the story path with at least one chance instead of ending the game when you Get A Job. Perhaps you steal the heart or mess with something, then the game goes crazy again.
I would not be able to stand him for 2 minutes in real life, I barely did in the video. Gives off the impression he's so full of himself 😅 personal dislikes aside, the game looks great, but well, that's cause of his wife, i dont know how to plots and gameplay are.
Psychological Fun Fact: While I'm also not that much into Waxheart, it would be great to do a recap before spending the money, as humans really tend to choose the later games that get presented to them. Means the game presented first will almost never get voted by a big crowd, since their memory of it is already quite lost after 2 hours or so...

Maybe thats a hot take but i feel that even whole 20k $ looks like nothing comparing it to not only publicity with really big audiance of people being the target of those games (we are gamers right) and as we have seen even a chance for a real contract. Actually, that happens sometimes. If you've ever watched the show, some people go on solely for exposure or teaming up with one of the sharks. In this case, Peppered potentially got both offers. Asmon is going to play it, and they even offered him a meeting with Mad Mushroom.
Sure, but this is live streamed and Shark Tank is edited. If I have understood correctly the pitch and negotiation in Shark Tank takes like an hour or so in reality and it's shortened a lot.
The guy with the fighting game speaks from my heart as and artist working like over a decade in the industry on shooters and live service. Also his experience with "we can't do this kind of character and this and this" so you end up with boring shapeless characters. Had that in a previous project that was actually stylized for a change but some influential people still tried to push their stupid agenda of detail and realism
He made a lot of great points, and the fighting game is definitely my favorite of the bunch, but the guy needs to learn when to stop talking. There were several times in his presentation where he made me actually lose interest because I felt like he was pushing too hard for it. The Peppered guy definitely shot himself in the foot. When you don’t tell investors what resources you need and what you will use resources for they aren’t going to throw money your way. Especially when there are other devs asking for money with clear plans laid outt.
I think he was doing it only for the exposure. He was not looking for investors, he was literally one chapter away from having a finished game. But yeah, he was somewhat cocky, which I didn't really like.

@@SubzeroBlack68 When it comes to getting a foot in the door, a credit on a game that has been launched regardless if it was a paid gig, is massive. I have a portfolio from my time at full sail, small, but its about 4ish games. Its just not enough. Game companies these days just don't hire juniors or train. After searching for a job for 3 years and trying my best to expand my portfolio with what very little time I have out of the day after work and just not getting anywhere, believe me that even an "exposure" gig where you get "on job experience" is way better than fumbling around trying to find a team that will ghost or never get anywhere.
There's might be a good potential in actually interviewing (or making a small podcast) Heretical and Peppered leads after the demo/releases as they definitely have interesting things to say and elaborate on.
I wish Pixel Pitch became more of a TV series where the whole world gets to see many indie games that have recently been published by these passionate people.
I think at the end of x episodes (perhaps 10?) you could have season finalists, where you asmon/otk/a real investor puts forward a large sum for a %based stake in the company. Thoughts?? Loving the evolution of OTK and Asmongold, seeing them bring all sorts of content and creators to the forefront and giving them a platform and/or spotlight. Being of similar age, I'm really interested in seeing how things develop from them in the future and the impact of such community driven initiatives. Would be unimaginable to see another era of early 90s to early 00s, but I can definitely such a thing emerging from these pathways they're walking
I really hope this show continues, it's such a cool thing for them to do to shed light on Indie Devs. Super interesting to see their presentations and games.
The Peppered game guy spoilered his own game which lives of multiple paths and repeatable playthroughs and experiencing how your decisions will play out xD Maybe he wanted to make sure people understand what can happen but I want to see others or myself discover it. the guy explaining the first game explains why i loved the Abzu game, it was different it was quite and little to no dialogue, it was gorgeous, and it was immersive and though the story didn't feel clear i came up with my own interpretation and that mystery but subtle hints of, was damn near captivating

Honestly. The first game has a bunch of red flags imo. 4th game. I’m just feeling like it just ain’t good enuf for today standard indie game. Peppered deserves more love. But I guess they got 5$ because they only ask for 5$, I felt like it was just a joke and they deserve more tho out of the 5.
Agreed. Wax game looks terrible for 3 years of development, even for 6 months in development. The sneak system is a huge step backwards portrayed as somehow a "new" idea

I know he pitched Asmon to stream it, but I think he should have also asked for more money for advertising costs and to reach out to other streamers.
I think it's something that certain people will enjoy playing, but many more will enjoy watching and talking about.

Waxhearth has way to many people working on it. First Dwarf has 8 people, which imho is a very nice team size for that kind of project. And let's be honest here, 9k is not much for 8 people. The promotion is worth way more. Indy game dev is so competitve right now. Hope they get some money to make a great game!
Waxheart is trying to get as much unpaid work as possible, attracting only those who want their name in the credits, and it shows. 3 years in development and it still looks like a single dev spent a single weekend

The Wax Heart project should have the character melt, the smaller the lantern light gets like a health bar, since the light is condensed. This would allow the player to pass certain tight space areas or get through spots they may almost fail at but at a health/wax cost. The lower the health, the more melted the character could be, making it slower and more difficult to move quickly past enemies throughout the rest of the level. It would literally be his Wax Heart and make the game tie together much better.
Peppered should allow you to get back to the story path with at least one chance instead of ending the game when you Get A Job. Perhaps you steal the heart or mess with something, then the game goes crazy again.

Actually, that happens sometimes. If you've ever watched the show, some people go on solely for exposure or teaming up with one of the sharks. In this case, Peppered potentially got both offers. Asmon is going to play it, and they even offered him a meeting with Mad Mushroom.

The idea is great but the presentations are way too long, thats the charm of shark tank, it's short exciting and with a lot of diversity.
Also its more exciting when the investors actually you know invest their own money so they don’t have this charity handout shit.
Sure, but this is live streamed and Shark Tank is edited. If I have understood correctly the pitch and negotiation in Shark Tank takes like an hour or so in reality and it's shortened a lot.
This is one of the best things I've ever seen. I'm off to watch the first two episodes as soon as I finish this one!

The guy with the fighting game speaks from my heart as and artist working like over a decade in the industry on shooters and live service. Also his experience with "we can't do this kind of character and this and this" so you end up with boring shapeless characters. Had that in a previous project that was actually stylized for a change but some influential people still tried to push their stupid agenda of detail and realism
He made a lot of great points, and the fighting game is definitely my favorite of the bunch, but the guy needs to learn when to stop talking. There were several times in his presentation where he made me actually lose interest because I felt like he was pushing too hard for it. Like dude, you already sold me with the great points, now you're bordering on try-hard and I'm getting weirded out.

The Peppered guy definitely shot himself in the foot. When you don’t tell investors what resources you need and what you will use resources for they aren’t going to throw money your way. Especially when there are other devs asking for money with clear plans laid outt.
I think he was doing it only for the exposure. He was not looking for investors, he was literally one chapter away from having a finished game.
But yeah, he was somewhat cocky, which I didn't really like.

@@SubzeroBlack68 When it comes to getting a foot in the door, a credit on a game that has been launched regardless if it was a paid gig, is massive. I have a portfolio from my time at full sail, small, but its about 4ish games. Its just not enough. Game companies these days just don't hire juniors or train. After searching for a job for 3 years and trying my best to expand my portfolio with what very little time I have out of the day after work and just not getting anywhere, believe me that even an "exposure" gig where you get "on job experience" is way better than fumbling around trying to find a team that will ghost or never get anywhere.
To put something in portfolio tho the project should be completed. And thats harder to filter on those small devs sites You talk anout

Loving the evolution of OTK and Asmongold, seeing them bring all sorts of content and creators to the forefront and giving them a platform and/or spotlight. Being of similar age, I'm really interested in seeing how things develop from them in the future and the impact of such community driven initiatives.

the guy explaining the first game explains why i loved the Abzu game, it was different it was quite and little to no dialogue, it was gorgeous, and it was immersive and though the story didn't feel clear i came up with my own interpretation and that mystery but subtle hints of, was damn near captivating
