If any Ahri main actually buys this, they *BETTER* be pulling off no less than 20/0/20 EVERY match. Imagine paying 500 to show off your main, only to suck ass and go 2/16/3, which you likely will since everyone on the enemy team is gonna hyper target you, both ironically and unironically, and your teammates are gonna perma flame and not help
See this skin should have been gifted to the top Ahri players. They could have made this an insanely competitive reward, bringing incentive to players. But instead they targeted the whales who want to show off their wallets.
@@hankocpharung1383 it’s not a joke. It’s a matter of fact that part of the community will specifically target people who paid those $520 and thus will make their matches very unenjoyable. The harassment will get worse if the buyer isn’t even good at the game.
Anyone who can spend 500$ for a skin is already doing better than 99.99% of league players. Also, it's just a skin, if you can't afford it, you better up your game IRL.

The real goal here is selling the 50 dollar package. The amount of money for a full game. Already a ludicrous amount of money for cosmetics. But it doesn't seem so ludicrous compared to the 500 dollar package. It's price framing. And if there are psychos who do buy the 500 dollar package, that's just a bonus.
That's correct. This is classic practice of anchoring: show somebody a really bad deal, and then show them a much better deal which now looks more appealing. The more expensive packages are making the less expensive one here look more attractive, that is the true goal.
I agree to an extent, I think their goal is to sell the 500 dollar skin because if they really wanted to anchor hard they would allow you to "level up" the skin like the Seraphine ultimate. That would make the 50 dollar skin even more attractive because instead of paying 500 dollars you can pay 50 and grind it out "saving" 450 dollars.
@@GoldenEagle311u are misunderstanding how it works tho, u cant just devaluate the 500$ to be at the same level as a 50$ bundle by leveling it up, it takes out the "prestige" that will anchor the players to buy the 50$, in other words so u can understand better, riot needs the existance of people buying the 500$ to make more people buy the 50$, if u can just buy the 50$ and level it up to be the same worth then the prestige group would not exist
@@JanDarkyy The prestige group would still exist because you would not have the other items in the bundle. It’s like buying other skins in league, you will be missing the border and icon if you don’t buy the bundle. It works the same way with the mythic shop when you purchase a prestige skin from it, so all in all the “prestige” of owning the $500 Ahri will still be there.
I could almost see that happening, but you wouldn't want to limit it that much, because selling all of those would only get you 100k. (which is nothing to rito) It'd have to be something like 10k a pop, and only 1,000 skins sold. I would have them be individually numbered, and allow people to buy multiples to get multiple numbers. Maybe have it be that you get a random number when you buy, so that the mega whales will splurge to try to get the "good" numbered skins. (1000, 0001, 0420 6969 etc)
I have a friend who is broke, unemployed and addicted to League, he immediately wanted to get a job just to pay for the 500$ skin. We are from Argentina, so he realised he won’t make enough to buy it with a regular job so he started streaming league thinking he will get to 500 doing that lol.
It's wind before the storm. Riot will see, that whales will pay almost anything for a skin. And without a doubt, they will continue this practice. The players complained about the 200€ skin, but apparently the numbers speak for themselves for riot. Now imagine you're very invested in something and the company tells you, you got to spend what amounts to night worth in a 5 star ski resort, to get that thing you really want. What sucks about this, is I DO understand the people at 20:10. I LOVE collecting things. I have collections. I even have my rock collection from elementary school. These skins play on that instinct. It's actually really cool to people like me. However, I've never bought even one skin. That's cause collecting skins in a game is NOT A REAL COLLECTION. I'm telling you now, if you got an itch to collect that Riot is scratching, you gotta get off that junk. Go find SOMETHING ELSE to collect. ANYTHING else. Even rock collections can have a lot of value. Although, I suppose I should ask, is there a secondary market for LoL skins? Can you sell and trade them?
I believe some people sell accounts, even though it is against ToS. I'm sure some of those are being resold because they have rare legacy skins that aren't available anymore... but more often it's people who want to flex an account with a high ranked score, or those who intentionally buy "wood" ranked accounts, (accounts that intentionally lose every game to get down to the absolute minimum ranking) so they can have fun smurfing.

I remeber like 10-11 years ago Riot relesed Pulsfire Ezreal the first ultimate skin priced for 20-25 $ and at the time we thought it was a bit expensive but it was the best skin in the freaking game. This 500 $ Ahri skin is of the same quality as pulsfire Ezreal, it could be an ultimate skin and the cost should be 25-30 $ max. They just use FOMO to make ppl buy their skins, but looking back all those limited time skins are not so limited any more so yeah I wont be surprised if this skin comes back in a year or it gets cheaper as the years go by.

Spoiler for non league players this skin is 100% pay to lose , long story short visual clutter for the player and bigger visual abilities which in turn makes the enemy dodge/sidestep wider aka dodging better. In teamfights where 100 diffrent abilities are thrown every second most likely some idiot is gonna panic flash cause of that finisher thing. Also that transformation thingy and the noise it makes also alerts enemies that Ahri used her ult where as in the normal skin you would have to check her bar to see her charges. I really genuinely don't get why people are so mad about that particular skin when there is even an alternative version of the skin which includes perks that are pretty good deal for a bundle. The fact that they are targeting the signature skin just makes me think that they are mad cuz the skin looks so good but too expensive to buy and trying to make riot put a discounted price. Where were they when Riot slowly increased the price of the skin? Where were they when they implemented the gacha system? Were $15, $20, $30 skins OK since its "kinda" affordable but $500 suddenly became NoNo? Riot thought the more premium the skin is, the bigger the meaning for this hall of fame. So they made it wayyy more expensive than any world championship winner skins to give to make it seem like hall of fame is that much more meaningfull and extravagant. Which clearly isnt going to work and only backfire lol. I personally think they shouldve made this a free skin earned with hall of fame event currency. World championship skins are for fans to support but hall of fame is something for the league community to celebrate.
No, I think they should make this skin a challenge to get, like you have to reach 90 lvl battle pass, then the last 10, to unlock every level, you need to get an S everytime, so once you completed it, players know how you achieved it, this is not the best idea but it's an example, you need to achieve it by doing a hard challenge
I made the same comparison when I first saw Necrit's video. The PoE bundle is, roughly, the same price but you get so much more. You get everything from all the other bundles, a t-shirt, a hoodie, a signed artbook AND an equivalent amount ($480) of raw in game currency to spend on whatever else you want. It's still a huge purchase but at least you get real, tangible memorabilia and in-game currency to spend on other goods on top of the packs contents. All the cost aside it also just feels like such a shitty way to "honor" the most decorated player your game has (and likely will ever) see. A player famous for being kind, humble and NOT USING SKINS...
The sad part is that there's thousands of people who've already committed to buying this. And there's probably a small portion who are figuring some way to secure a loan to afford it.

I would have to work around 25 hours to afford this skin. So if I’m paying to see a signature around a tower for maybe 10 seconds each game, an animated splash art for maybe 60 seconds, and a finisher maybe another 10 seconds, that’s about 80 seconds worth of visuals each game. I would have to play 1,250 games before I catch up to the number of hours I put in to buy the skin….

Most marketing is predatory, and we're just programmed to accept it in these other industries. There's 3 arguments when trying to sell someone something, Logos, ethos and pathos; Logos is the only one that isn't predatory. When someone's psychology is taken advantage of, how is their decision 100% their own. The big problem is, these issues don't happen in a vacuum; how much actual profit riot makes will influence others to do the same. While these start with cosmetics it's shown to bleed into pay to win, where companies are sacrificing the sale of a complete product, nor providing sufficient content to players, in favor of sucking more money from the players. Gamers as a whole are getting way less, for way more, when it comes to the AAA industry and the more anyone accepts these practices, the more that industry will decay. That said, there's always indie games if the community as a whole fails.

If you see a game trailer with gameplay of the game, a few quotes from famous people and a price, platform and date of release, that's marketing, it makes you aware that the game exists, it gives you opinions from people that you may or may not trust, and it tells you where to get it if you are interested. it 100% is marketing and I wouldn't say its predatory.
Regarding not being in crates, previously all skins could be knocked out of lootboxes, which you can get just by playing and not paying. This is the first skin that you can not get so.
To put this into perspective: You can buy BG3 for 60$, Helldivers 2 for 40$ AND Eldenring for another 80$ (with the DLC). Three absolute masterpieces for less than half the price of a fcking skin (and some random shit.)
Can also buy a whole console, or a budget PC, a Steam Deck…
500$ for a games skin for a game that looks like it should run on a pentium 200 without 3d acceleration lol. That must of took them all of 30min to make with modern tools.
This is the most clueless comment I've ever seen that never have worked inside this kind of industry
That's kind of an insult to the artists and devs who made it possible on a legacy c++ engine
@@heunha9269 tf you talking about? 500 dollars is an insult
@@heunha9269 lol even for when the game was released, I remember the boxed versions of it, it looked like a game meant for an ancient machine. You people feeding them money for low effort is a joke. Also for your second reply if it was actually wrote well it core woulda had been partially in assembly and be able to run on said pentium 200 lol. It's certainly low poly enough to get running @ 320x240 on maybe a voodoo II or banshee shoved in if it was actually coded well for speed.

Meanwhile Valve Update bring league innate to Dota 2. create free to play mini game BP(You collect token and read comic if you want) and in the end you get free skin. you can also get 7$ discount on any crown fall event item as long as you have 10 coin.
"The customer is always right." People think that this always has something to do with customers keeping businesses alive by buying their products, or customers having the effect of what sales and what doesn't sale. While true, it also mean that if a customer wants to spend $520 on digital turds, then it is 100% in their RIGHT to spend that $520 on digital turds. You can't tell them no, Riot can't tell them no, nobody but the customer themselves, can't decide what they can and cannot spend their money on. If Riot can make ALL the money, they have every right to. Same goes for ANY business. If you start a "Hot Fresh Dog Turds" stand in your neighborhood, and people are paying you $500 a plop, are you going to stop selling those dog turds? No. No you are not.
Its literally the same with clothing brands, there its totally normal to have brands with 300-1000€ (ofc also higher and enough cheaper), but no one cares because you arent forced to buy it. Even tho people still say "Its stupid to spend so much on designer brands", but if those people enjoy it, why not.
"the customer is always right in matters of taste"
thats the actual quote.
I also see no problem with that skin. If they want they can sell skins for 50,000$ and I wouldnt mind. I never bought a skin and if you want one go ahead and buy one.
"the customer is always right" but if they are addicts you can do whatever you want with them.
if they lower the prince for last bundle to 200 or 150$ is reasonably good enough for LoL player i mean skin is cool and sfx that hasn't yet add to other skin yet? yeah seems good what more you got your favorite player emote signaure in your skin? hell yeah LoL whales would buy it without care and what more you get free 100 bp level that make player dosen't need to grinding level for few weeks to get every item in shop now that seems fair for player
520$ is like 8 baldurs gate i doubt they did the same job as 8xbaldurs gate's jobs worth
No diffence when ppl goes out to buy cardboard.
Holy, i remember playing when a $30 skin was the big ask skins and i feel like rhey had more to them. Elementialist Lux has a bunch of different combos you can become for 30 and i think it had an icon or outline. Dj Sona was kinda the same you got a skin that changed form 3 times and changed the global music for your side plus an icon.
i cant imagine meat riding a player so hard that you pay 500 dollars for a digital copy of their signature and their face to appear after you kill someone or something dude
Pepsi Drink: $2.50
Video Game Skin: $500
Explaining to people the video game skin price while sipping on your Pepsi: PRICELESS
Where do you live that you pay 2.50$ for a pepsi?
What is that, a 2L bottle?
Real life drink vs digital skin thayost when server shuts down lol
What in the sugar tax is that price
2l of pepsi es less than 2 euros
I always heard about "wow... riot loves Ahri. Look at how many skins she have compaired to other champions". But when i see her W giving less damage after the first foxfire hits a target, and her ultimate having less damage than before, it gives me extra pain...
Bear in mind even the ahari subreddit is advocating the bullying of the skin buyers by banning the champion.
Don’t even think about buying that. Don’t ever consider it. Just forget its existence.
You have to save money for the new $1000 skin coming next year lmao
League of legends has some finishers that they made YEARS ago , I think they are 3 or so , but the one I remember is a heart shape Icon that makes an explosion when you kill someone in URF, it's not a new feature.
Most likely they will keep those for the 300$+ Skins.
40:11 "I honestly dont even know how we got to this point"
well you see, it all started with armor for your horse in this game called oblivion, then somebody fucked up a QTE and because of it, a gorilla got shot in the Cincinnati zoo, everything else just kinda happened because of these 2 flashpoints in history.
accurate af
Why? You can barely see skin on top down games...
@@johnways2648 People would hate that. You already spent money on the pass, having rewards locked behind challenges would make people fume in rage.
Wrong there was finnishers in league. Excluse to an equiped summoner icon in urf mode only
I made the same comparison when I first saw Necrit's video.
Then that's on them?? Whose to judge on what ppl do with their money haha. Makes no diffence when players drop money on cardboard like yugioh, pokemon, magic.
Now I wonder how the monetization will be in their MMO.
Probably heavy high, like some mobile games started to be
I would have to work around 25 hours to afford this skin.
I played LoL back in 2010 to 2014. EVERYTHING changed when Tencent bought Riot

We got enough problems with people cranking prices on things people _need._ That's another discussion that I don't feel like jumping into, but this doesn't even register as a good distraction. I think most of us can agree that luxury goods are often priced intentionally-stupidly, and that it doesn't matter because they're luxury goods. Doesn't really look any better or worse just because the luxury good in question doesn't actually exist.
Wonder if it's too late to sell custom Firefox skins.
If there are people willing to buy a $1500 bag, there are people willing to pay for a $500 game skin.
Daily reminder that a "real" phone costs less than 200$.
The newest iPhone costs over a 1000$ and is worse than a Xiaomi Poco, for example.
An iPhone is basically a 800$ vanity skin, and most people happily buy it, because they are stupid, and because they think it makes them look cool.
@@N7sensei If you earn $10 000 a week, would you care for a $500 skin in a video game?
Do you get my point? I said "There are people willing..." I never said "A lot"
@@konaqua122 If you are price conscious you will. 500 dollars is still 500 dollars, even if it takes much less percentage of your income. If whatever you buy is just inflated 100 fold to match a hundred fold income, you are using the same percentage of your income as a low income, rendering your higher income at large meaningless. If you don't, you will actually feel you earn more than a low income receiver. If your expenses don't correspond directly with higher income(higher income/higher expenses), you will actually benefit.
Look at Asmon. He still lives like he is a low income person, but that means his high income isn't wasted. Having a company just means he could write off all these as job related expenditures, if he chose not to, but he mostly doesn't because he is price conscious, thus a millionaire and could stop streaming tomorrow and live well for the rest of his life.
so... it's worst than an NFT. I never thought that would even be possible
no, once this assshat company sells enough of the finisher skin, they will reveal a new cash only purchase with more options of a finisher to rake in more money from both sides of the coin. Being greedy pays off when you're big enough and have the money...
I desperately needed an in depth explanation video telling me why spending $500 on anything that isn't a medical bill is a bad thing.
Idk I kinda wish I didn’t have to pay for healthcare that way I can out that money towards idk a house
Do what I did.
Buy funk-o pop.
Build funk-o fort.
The reality is that for some people, 500$ is just a drop in a bucket of disposable income. Problem is, it's the people with the less money that tends to spend the most on shit. Do some research on luxury brands and how they target "poor" people, making them think owning a pricey bag / piece of cloth will make them go up in the social scale. It's crazy!

Yeah, because when you "dO nOt PaY foR heAlThcAre" then the doctors and research and medicine and hospitals just materialize out of the vacuum of space for free, and it is not like healthcare costs just get deducted from your salary via taxes, but now the quality is much worse, and there are months long waiting lists.

I remember when I still played and enjoyed the game, and they released Bewitching Nidalee as a time-exclusive skin. It was around $10-15. I thought, "Okay, sure, why not support the company?" Several months later, they announced, "Well, we feel like it's unfair to gatekeep it from others, so everyone can buy it again, and you will get a 'SPECIAL' border." That was my last purchase from Riot Games. I see stakes went up quite a lot from these days xD
"limited time only"
yea right, like the Championship Riven skin?
Now I am really confident about the Riot MMO
@ 10:28 Urf mode a while back had finisher animations you get if you brought the icon and played urf and yea to this day they still work soo it ain't nothing new
Asmon, everyone, kindly remember that this is the world of Intellectual Property. League wants Faker's persona, and is subscribing to his fans.
Nowni understand why riot *actually* released their vanguard anti cheat for league... It's so they can't use custom skin mods to get this skin for free....
I disagree with the statement that since it doesnt affect your gameplay (i assume power) I doesnt matter. It does. It augments the games visuals and every other player must see these skins knowing they where bought, not earned. Its a really big game breaker.
I'm so glad I stopped playing League long time ago.
I don't entirely agree with the lamborghini comparison. Most rich people buy them to show off but probably a good portion of them buy cars like that and actually use them at the track. Those are the actual car hobbyists. In that sense it compares more to a gamer buying a top end pc. Every thing else asmon said was based tho.

It's just a matter of trust, I trust GGG completely that if I buy something that money is going to be used to make something I'll most likely enjoy in the future. It's not just that it's a $500 skin, it's also the fact that Faker only earns 30% of that amount, this is bizarre when you take into consideration all the whole reason for the event and the history of him...
Wrong. He and some teams earn 30% meaning the 30% is split and he in fact gets less than 30%
