52:00. Both Aeldari and Drukhari still do short warp jumps. The Webway is ancient and not all of its corridors work anymore, so they often have to find the closest exit portal to their objective (that might be a few planets away) and then do a short jump to reach their destination. It's really funny to think Eldar almost never do Warp travel if they can help it, and yet are STILL casually better at it than the Imperium which does it constantly. That's hilarious.

I really like that Da Big Dakka confirms what I always suspected about the Drukhari: that their vileness is a product of their environment and the systems they live under, rather than inborn. That no Dark Eldar is born _liking_ inflicting pain, it's forced upon them until they either like it, accept it numbly, suffer in silence, off themselves, or try to escape. It's a perfectly internally consistent system. The Commorragh operates on an Anarcho-Syndicalist structure of exploitation and unjust hierarchies. Everyone continues treating each other and "lesser races" like shit, not just because it's the only life they've ever known, but because it benefits those at the top. Even if Dark Eldar wanted to change, their rulers won't permit it. Pitting the lower classes against one another exists as much to keep them from uniting against their masters, as it does as an end unto itself. It's also why the Commorragh upper crust keep their citizens ignorant. Common Dark Eldar don't know much about Craftworlds, and only some about Harlequins. Even if they know other Eldar have ways to stave off Slaanesh, they're conditioned by culture and propaganda to see other Eldar as weak. Cowards too feeble or afraid to embrace the strength and pleasure that the Drukhari lifestyle provides. Even if a Drukhari wanted to leave, and somehow knew where to go, it may not be possible to do so. You can bet your ass all exits to Commorragh are guarded and tolled. If you don't have an in with the Kabals or have the resources to pay, you're not leaving unless your betters allow it. Like impoverished people in Real Life, languishing in underfunded urban neighborhoods, most Drukhari living in Commorragh probably _literally_ can't afford to leave. So while many Drukhari embrace their lifestyle out of hedonism and/or ambition, many just do it just to survive in a system built to keep them trapped. Trapped in cages of debt, exploitation, fear, and pain. With their masters above, hungry Drukhari below, victims in front, and She Who Thirsts ever behind, demanding her cut.

God I wish we had more Eldar books. Those Dark Eldar novels and short stories are amazing, but like they are SO OLD. It can’t be hard to write a newer more up to day Dark Eldar novel.
An abridged summary of the Dark Eldar aka the Drukhari… Lelith: “Hey, it’s your favorite Egirl, Lelith Hesperax.” *proceeds to kills people with her hair blades* Rakarth: *doing experiments so horrible that the other Dark Eldar find them traumatizing with Fabious Bile* “What? What are you staring at?” Drahza: *killing everything with his massive sword* “Mediocre.” Mandrakes 4-armed leader: *pops out of the shadows* “Hey kids, wanna see a dead body?” Lady Malys\Cegorach: *clown laugh/“BAZANGA”* Head of the guard at Khaines Gate to infighting Eldar: “You can’t fight in here, this is the Gate Garrison. Do I need to remind you of the rules and consequences?” *points to Eldar walker made of wraithbone, skin, and is a sentient servitor* Supreme Overlord Vect: *watching all this play out* “Hi, I’m Asdrubal Vect, and welcome to Jackass!” Jaghatai Khan: *appears out of nowhere with Aun’Shi and fails to kill Vect because Vect threw Malys at Khan* “Do what you want Asdrubale, I’ll get you eventually.” *Vect, Rakarth, Tahril, Drahza, and Ur’iss sigh in 10,000 years of annoyance* I just realized that Commoragh is named after and based off Gamorragh, as in Sodom and Gamorragh from the Bible.
There is actually a Drukhari trilogy of books. Not sure if they are any good, but they do exist. Was actually planning on picking up the first one when this episode dropped.

There are some good eldar books! Rare, I know, but Gavin Thorpe is by far their best author, and I would highly recommend the path series for eldar books. He also wrote the Ynnari books, but those are only good if you hate cwe because they're posh and plot armour. Gavin actually wrote them to be flawed and to even admit "we are idiots" - Yvraine. If you like eldar for always be right and pulling wins out of nowhere gavin is not your guy. So eldar fans generally hate his work because elves can lose and be wrong. Why also being not immune to chaos and tyranid influence.
I really recommend to read the Path of the Dark Eldar novel trilogy. They're amazing and actually give a lot of detail on Commorragh, as well as the dark eldar themselves. Really really recommend them!
25:07 I like to think that the ones strapped down and subjected to absolute pain and disparity is what they feed on to live. ….but the emotional perpetuating abuse is what they feed on emotionally…. As in, they just do that 100% for fun.
I really like what they did to the Mandrakes in the later editions of 40K. When I started, way back in 3rd edition, they were already described as "the most terrifying of all the Dark Eldar", which really says a lot about how nasty they should be. The models? Looked liked your average Dark Eldar, but with less clothes and a special kink for leather straps and metal rings. Profile? Exactly the same as the normal Dark Eldar warriors, but with less armor and close combat weapon and a pistol instead of the standard rifle, giving them 1 additional attack in melee while being less than useful at range. Special rules? A unique type of infiltration/deep strike, which was mostly just worse than the normal ones and made them twice as expensive as the normal warrior. I may be wrong, but I don't think anyone ever played them competitively, and the only thing awesome about them was their fluff in the rulebook. They also had a named special character; Kheradruak the head hunter, who never received an official model, but was supposedly the worst thing you could possibly face in Commorragh (according to the fluff at least), and could be the one reason to field a minimum size unit of mandrakes just to get him in your list. His description would make him closer related to Wracks than the redesigned Mandrakes however, with extra arms and other bits grafted on by some mad Haemonculi.

I started a Drukhari army just this week, so having this as my background for an hour of painting is just perfect.
I just imagine in Commoragh gladiator arenas instead of kiss cams they have cams where if your caught on camera you go through saw traps after your seat drops
love how well-loved Mike Brooks' works are. _Some_ people in the fandom hate what he believes in and that makes me experience just the absolute best kind of schadenfreude.
Genuinely one of the best modern 40k writers.
I'm definitely getting the Nightmare box when it comes out. My stepdad's taking the Mandrakes, and I'm taking the Night Lords. It's a sick-looking kit.
To give you an idea about the homunculi, they kept Fabius Bile as a pet for a while and got really mad when he left
Should do a whole episode on the antics of the Drukhari. Like when they met the Tau. Captured a Tyranid moon. The guy that turned himself into a sentient beam of light. Ossefactor weapons etc.
They get some of the wackiest superviallain lore, its great.
I have waited so long for another AR episode on my army!
It's been ages since I've played 40K. That opening quote rang clear as a bell for me. It was the time Dark Eldar made their debut.
Mistress Baeda's Gift was a phenomenal short story. Won't go into details other than the elevator pitch, "Dark Elder love story!"
The Mandrakes sound like they're the John Wick's of Commorragh.
Dear bricky it's been a while since we've done a trilogy please read the fabius bile trilogy. Same vibes as nightlords and is important for the current 40k
25:16 It was fortunate that hope remained, because it meant there was still hope for humanity's future and it was not lost.
There is the Dark Eldar series called Path of the Renegade and it's subsequent sequels, Path of the Incubus and Path of the Archon. Currently the T'au Ethereal Aun'shi is trapped in the gladiator pits of Commoragh as well.
In one of the Inquisitor novels (I think, its been a minute) a homunculus dissassembles a man into his component systems, but keeps him alive and concious of all of it.
Honestly I think Dark Eldar lore is pretty cool stuff...and they are dark and ominous without being chaotic in nature.
42:57 - I could totally see various forces of chaos doing this. Like Dark Mechanicum or Tzeenchian Cultists doing this, thinking they are top dog.
My First Army Is A Drukhari, I love the Them
Dk has gone from having no idea and making guesses that make NO sense at all, to guessing EXACTLY RIGHT and then going "No it can't be must be something else." It's like his past mistakes have made him convinced his first guess is always wrong and thus he second guesses himself.
Hey y’all should have an episode where the listener ask 40K questions so a 40K q and a. Mine would be how to get friends in the hobby !
If Mandrakes arent covered in this episode...maybe AdRic could add them to eithervanother Xenos species vid or a vid on the Species in Commoragh or something cuz there isnt alot on Mandrakes to make an episode solely about themselves. Maybe add them with the snek bois, the medusai parasites, Ur-Ghuls (i think that's their name?) The Khymerae, the blade spiders, etc ?
Yoooo, why brickser so thin? Bulking ark should never end!
The picture Shy puts up at 13:19 is perfect
I think the codex said Yvrainne was an exarch or autarch, then a seer, then a Corsair, then took that over and became a captain, then became a wych (either by choice or NOT), and then became a succubus.
funnily enough
I'm in a DH game rn, my GM was a G and let me play as an Ogryn using OW rules. The game started with us assaulting a tower of rebels, but then dark eldar show up. And they brought mandrakes.
The mandrakes were strong, but point blank full auto ripper gun was stronger lol
"Why don't they make, like, a Dark Eldar book that goes into an archon's dealings in Commorragh?" etc
[screaming internally] THEY LITERALLY DO THAT IN THE DARK ELDAR BOOKS DK
God I wish we had more Eldar books. Those Dark Eldar novels and short stories are amazing, but like they are SO OLD. It can’t be hard to write a newer more up to day Dark Eldar novel.
And it's one of the best 40k books i've read.
An abridged summary of the Dark Eldar aka the Drukhari…
Lelith: “Hey, it’s your favorite Egirl, Lelith Hesperax.” *proceeds to kills people with her hair blades*
Rakarth: *doing experiments so horrible that the other Dark Eldar find them traumatizing with Fabious Bile* “What? What are you staring at?”
Drahza: *killing everything with his massive sword* “Mediocre.”
Mandrakes 4-armed leader: *pops out of the shadows* “Hey kids, wanna see a dead body?”
Lady Malys\Cegorach: *clown laugh/“BAZANGA”*
Head of the guard at Khaines Gate to infighting Eldar: “You can’t fight in here, this is the Gate Garrison. Do I need to remind you of the rules and consequences?” *points to Eldar walker made of wraithbone, skin, and is a sentient servitor*
Supreme Overlord Vect: *watching all this play out* “Hi, I’m Asdrubal Vect, and welcome to Jackass!”
Jaghatai Khan: *appears out of nowhere with Aun’Shi and fails to kill Vect because Vect threw Malys at Khan* “Do what you want Asdrubale, I’ll get you eventually.” *Vect, Rakarth, Tahril, Drahza, and Ur’iss sigh in 10,000 years of annoyance*
I just realized that Commoragh is named after and based off Gamorragh, as in Sodom and Gamorragh from the Bible.
There is actually a Drukhari trilogy of books. Not sure if they are any good, but they do exist. Was actually planning on picking up the first one when this episode dropped.
" I cannot see. I cannot hear. " DARKNESS! IMPRISONING ME! ALL THAT I SEE! ABSOLUTE HORROR!
59:33 it’s better translate as “he knows how to serve, and when the right time comes he ate and didn’t even left the building he brote that book”
A good portion of Silent Hunters also takes place in Commoragh
I like the idea of the orks being a highly invasive species, that’s why why are in the eye of terror and commorrgh.
Now that you mention it. It was your rogue trader game video which first got me to see your channel.
Happy late birthday, DK!!! Have two shield generators to survive Bricky's 380 (hope you have backpack space for the backpack one)!!!
Mike Brooks is literally what I aspire to be holy shit, love a good punker in Warhammer
There are Dark Eldar books :) Path of the Dark Eldar... An omnibus from 2015, the first book in the series being 2012.
yoooooooo there is dark eldar POV books, and there reeeeally good aswell. Andy Chambers wrote a trilogy, its criminally underappreciated
I’d like to petition that there be a Patreon goal where it’s just bricky and DK watching rebel moon
Loved the episode as always, good to see Timothy getting some representation! Some books around Eldar/Dark Eldar: Path of The Eldar trilogy and Path of the Dark Eldar trilogy. The Masque of Vyle. Pretty decent reads! Keep it up!
If you are looking for a place to read Dark Eldar lore read The Path of The Dark Eldar Trilogy. It's got it all, I'm shocked they never mentioned this
The dark eldar omnibus book is actually really good. Path of the archon, incubi and renegade. Highly recommend
Ad-Ric plays Helldivers with the Poorhammer guys.. Brad is a BIG enjoyer of the pirate boat lads and ladies..
Ad-Ric next about the Drukari.
Coincidence?
39:14 I saw the incubussy come frome a damn mile away...
This episode also reflects GW's attitude towards the Drukhari as well...
TIMOTHY... MOAR WHINE!!!
Mandrakes fire kamehameha and steal peoples soul to cast spirit bomb xD
I really recommend to read the Path of the Dark Eldar novel trilogy. They're amazing and actually give a lot of detail on Commorragh, as well as the dark eldar themselves. Really really recommend them!
57:40 the Path of the Dark Eldar trilogy by Andy Chambers covers this pretty well.
25:07 I like to think that the ones strapped down and subjected to absolute pain and disparity is what they feed on to live.
….but the emotional perpetuating abuse is what they feed on emotionally…. As in, they just do that 100% for fun.
How dare Bricky. He forgot to mention the sun they put in the entrance
@Shy I'll play Helldiver's with ya. We need more divers for the Automaton front!
