I wanted to thank you for taking the time & energy to show us how to R& R the P/S pump … I know you saved me at least 30-45 minutes of work … All the best brother ….
My 2005 Ford Five Hundred has 255k miles on it. Never needed the power steering pump replaced, I just watched the video for in case it does lol. I did need a new transmission at 171k, a few minor repairs here and there related to how I drive, but other than that its been a great car.
Thank you! Only video for a fivehundred. About to do this job and i always watch a video first. Being the only one was a plus but you did it so great it helped me out a bunch. Thank you i feel more confident I can do this and knowing what parts/tools i need before starting.
I really appreciate you posting this video, I've been trying to figure out why my power steering line fitting wasn't fitting and was worried about taking the pump off, you made this seem so easy and I loved your commentary, relieved the stress I was under. Again, thank you for posting, we appreciate you here in SC!
Great video! Looks straightforward enough to do the pump at the same time as the rack as I've been putting off replacing the rack and pinion for years on my 2005 500.
Interesting to see your work flow. Decades of experience, yet you efficiently use the wrench in hand rather than searching for that specialty tool you have, somewhere in the toolbox. Straight forward workflow, with little tricks here and there. I've been fiddling with hose clamps like that for years, thinking that I just don't know the correct technique for setting and releasing them. Guess there is none, ha ha.
Hello I was wondering if my problem is the rack or the pump. I was driving and made a hard right turn and the steering popped and the power steering doesn't work if you are going slow or backing up. Could you help me out?
So I had replaced the pump and it worked for like 6 months or so.... then the wine came back. I was thinking it was the seals on the rack & pinion, so I threw some stop leak in there, it blew the line up at the pump, that little elbow. I couldnt get a little nylon washer, ended up needing to buy the OEM elbow, as the aftermarket was literally a hair to big and it would hit the engine.... Anyways, Im considering trying to throw in another power steering pump, as it only wines, and the vehicle doesn't leak any fluids. What do you think the chances are that its just a bad remanufactured pump? I am selling the sucker, and if it is the pump, and I replace it, the car is in mint condition. If its the rack and pinion, well I lose 100, if its the pump I get 1k more in the sale.
Very detailed and informative. Even better your a trip your comments were entertaining. I especially like “ this is going to take some muscles, If you got any” lmfao
Thanks a million! Do you know what the letters in "Ford" stand for? >found on the road dead. Or: fix or repair daily. Also: ( this one is backwards) driver returns on foot.
I hope your well! Brother I have been looking high and low for the Teflon o rings. Ford couldn’t even give them to me. I bought a reman rack and pinion and pump and have to disconnect all hoses and supposed to replace. Where do you get these o rings? I have looked at Grainger Industrial supply, but I can’t find the specs on them anywhere (even prodemand mitchel1, ford, Google) You need to know inner diameter, outer diameter and thickness! Annoying as hell. I just want to do it right and not have to return you know? Lol I didn’t replace an o ring on the txv expansion valve (ac) once and of course the sob leaked! Thanks for the great video and help!
@@trime2x13 that’s the set I got. I got the job done. No more leaky leaky and muscling the steering wheel. Have to replace the intermediate shaft yet but I’m lazy

The P/S cap should be on the pump but , not tight … just sit there so as to not make a mess . @@tallspaniard1 agreed. You need to physically hold the wheel to lock, when turning the car off, otherwise the pressurized air will not escape as well.
For those interested: you need to loosen the front motor mount to slowly lift the engine. Once you lift(about 2”) the PS pump with pulley can come out!!
Thanks for making the video my 2005 ford 500 with 133k I believe mine is about to go it's tough to steer it. These engines that are front wheel drive are a joke almost takes a brain surgeon to figure them out everything has to be crammed into a small area a big joke 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is an awesome vid! I'm working on a 2005 Mercury Montego, exactly the same setup! Really appreciate you taking the time to share this info!

Hacks lol ! good eye checking reman parts, we forget to do that alot of time, good reminder.
Thanks for the video. Followed this video to replace the PS pump in my 2005 Ford Freestyle. The instructions worked very well.
Ha, you're great!!! You remind me of me (with less profanities !!!)!! Thanks for the video, you gave me some tips I might not have had before.

If it's not broke, don't fix it. That's how I roll.
great real world video and I appreciate the speed up's. Been battling this 500 and the f cking transmission valve body as well.
I don't have the patience for normal speed.

Hello. When you get the air out and do the lock to lock application, do you do that with the reservoir cap on or off? Thanks in advance
I would put the cap on.
Nice work mane. Glad I'm not the only one that thinks these reman parts are a fuggin' crap shoot!
Great video. I just did the water pump 2day. I'm doing ps pump 2maro. Thanks for the nice tutorial

Hello I was wondering if my problem is the rack or the pump. I was driving and made a hard right turn and the steering popped and the power steering doesn't work if you are going slow or backing up. Could you help me out?
I have never replaced a rack because of excessive steering effort, if that answers anything.
how many quarts did it take to refill the whole system?
It depends. Most systems usually take about a pint. A quart should leave you extra.
@@RustBeltAuto Wow thanks i was thinking like 4 quarts to flush the whole system.
@@RustBeltAuto Thanks i am doing the same 2005 ford 500 and was geting mixed numbers from 1 to 4 quarts for the entire system.

Noises usually comes from a cavatating pump. Worn, or excessive pressures. Not usually a rack. Hard to say.
Thanks for the video. Huge help
Hey man what’s another reason if it’s not the steering fluid pump? For the five hundred ford 2006??
Rack and pinion. There may be a filter in the line that is plugged, but not likely.

It is actually the last name of a mechanical genius. Unfortunately, he died a long time ago.
😂 this guys funny how he described them clamps
Great video! Appreciate it and the ranting was the icing on the cake, lol.
How much does a job like that cost
I don't know.

There should be an assortment box of a few different ones in the help section at your local parts store.
I found these at the auto parts store. Dormant product, 82540 qty 2, two different sizes

It was all good but you never showed how you took it out of its place because I tried to remove one and the pulley got in the way
Did you ever figure it out with the pulley? I also could not get pump out due to pulley hitting the frame?

Anyone know if this is a 3.0
I do believe all the 500's are 3.0.
You should know this already!!!!!! SHEEESH!!!
Oh yeah, why don't you use regular power steering fluid instead of tranny fluid? Is it that critical?
Yes!!!

Most automakers use those damn clamps. I hate those fucking things.
They work really well. Not too cool when they fly off a pliers, hit you in the face, and go flying across the room though.
