Scotty- I love your videos! I am twelve and love cars. Your videos inspire me to make a difference and help people whether it be helping them with labor, or their cars! Have a great day
Scotty please get an eye exam, people with higher prescriptions are more susceptible to retinal tears than others and you could have cataracts at this point in life and if treated, you might not need glasses again, eye health is important
Hi Mr kilmer!! enjoy your videos, thoughts on an 09 civic that makes a moaning noise only when turning steering wheel right then back left?? It's super annoying thanks!!
Scotty, I am thinking about buying a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 liter 6-Cylinder for $700. It has an exhaust leak(most likely manifold) and an alignment problem. Is it worth it?
I had a FWD ‘06 Five Hundred with a CVT and it was tremendously solid. You could tell it was designed with fleet use in mind - everything was high capacity from the washer fluid to the engine oil. It had a good serviceable design and it was very comfortable to daily drive. I took a center punch from a Saturn to the driver’s door and wasn’t injured at all and had it repaired. I eventually sold it a few years later with 160k miles and it still had the original shocks, struts, tie rod ends and ball joints which is a miracle in western PA. Rock on, Five Hundred!
My coworker has one. She has 430,000 miles on that damn thing. We live in northern New Mexico and drive about 80 miles a day to and from work. She swears by that car. Never any issues. That car is impressive
One of the most underrated cars ever. My mom had the first freestyle which was basically the wagon version of the five hundred. She got it at an auction that was a great car.
I got a 2005 mercury montego premier awd 6spd. I love it. It's sitting at 236k+ miles right now all original motor and Trans. Nothing major done to it. Feels like a truck when you drive, but a smooth one. I get 27mpg in it max at like 80mph on the interstate. Highly recommend this car honestly
My dad had a Ford 500 that he bought with 25,000 miles and he drives a lot for work. He got it up to 275,000 with absolutely no problems and got 30+ mpg throughout its life. Great car that lasted a long time up in the Wisconsin weather, his was a FWD with the 6-speed automatic transmission.
I've had my Five Hundred since 2007, it had 5 miles on it, and now it's just below 200,000. It still runs like a champ, but has some issues, naturally. Currently working on replacing all the main stuff, and it'll run for another hundred grand at least. I love this car.
I currently drive a 2005 Ford 500 with CVT and AWD 129,000 miles. Bought it at 105,000 and it's no speed demon, but never considered it slow for a full sized sedan, especially for a 6 cyl. I have taken this car several times over the passes of the Sierra Mountains into Northern California from Nevada. I can pass multiple cars, going from 60 to 95 in short order when opportunity presents. It is also an extremely nimble car for its size, and an extremely comfy car to drive. Loving it ever since the day I first drove it.
Great Video, Ford 500 was my first car, it had a FWD 6speed auto. Gave it to a relative and still runs great. NO TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE ISSUES. It currently has 220k and still going.
I have a ford 500 cvt all wheel drive with 180,000 miles on it and it still runs great. I love it.I forgot to mention it is a 2007 ford 500 limited edition.
My mother has a 06 five hundred limited AWD with about 120k, we've had it since new. Its been a good car for her, had very few issues with it. The thing is an absolute TANK in the snow, we live in the PNW and can get pretty heavy winters, that car has never gotten stuck (Never had snow tires only all seasons) With the AWD and the traction control it hardly even slides, hands down one of the most capable sedans I've seen. Its also very smooth, the CVT trans makes for a comfortable ride. As you said they are definitely not race cars but they get you where you need to go haha!
My dad had a 2009 Taurus from 9000 miles through about 115,000 miles. The only mechanical maintenance he had to do to it were front brakes and all 4 shocks at 100,000 miles. It was an incredibly solid car. They do tend to rust on the rear wheel arches just behind the rear doors.
I did a little research on the Ford 500. It came with either a ZF Batavia CFT30 CVT or an Aisin F21 6 speed automatic, and came with either front wheel drive, or in the example in your video, all-wheel drive. The engine was a 3 liter Duratec 30 V6 engine.
I personally own an 07 Ford Five Hundred with 200k with the Aisin 6 speed transmission & I think it’s a great transmission. Many people were fooled into believing the transmissions were terrible when in all reality... it’s a THROTTLE BODY issue. Keep the throttle body cleaned out every 30k miles or so & reset the computer & boom! it will run, drive, & most importantly, shift like a brand new car.
I bought a Ford 500 due in part to this video. My neighbor happened to be selling his 2005 Limited with 6 speed automatic transmission and 220,000 miles. I know Scotty specifically warned against the 6 speed autos, but this one has so many miles and still shifts like new. Its a great car! Had to replace the water pump, and it was easy as pie.
I just bought a 2006 Montego in northern Minnesota. Now, it is rusty, but it still runs like a top and drives like a dream. Probably the best $500 I've ever spent. AWD+CVT
Gerald Iwan dealerships will raise the price if everyone wants something. That’s how they make a lot of money. If everyone wanted a f350 then they would raise the prices.
Gerald Iwan You won't find those cars at reputable Dealerships! Their to old, and most have somewhat high mileage! Usually their sold on line or private sale! Either way... You can get them cheap! Good for a second car!
My friend in WA State had one. He called it the American Mercedes. Couldn't kill that thing. Very reliable and drove nice. Had nice features on it. He got it for a real good park.
HypeTv100 I brought one at 145 now i have 180,000 some time the car jerks when put into drive or reverse and also only when i ride up hill it take a little long to shift should i change transmission fluid or do you have any idea what could be the problem ?
I have a 2007 500 limited and the gasket covers have a slow leak, it has 178000 miles on it. Should i fix it or just keep an eye on the oil? The car runs amazing and only thing I do is regular oil changes and maintenance as recommemded. Is it worth fixing the covers with that many miles on it?
I have a 2005 Five Hundred SEL that I bought in 2007 after my '96 Taurus was totaled. It still runs like a champ and I love, love, love, love it. Solid car, drives like a dream, and I still get pretty good gas mileage out of it for its age, too.
Absolutely loving mine! Bought a blue 2006 AWD LTD back in September and it's fantastic. Had to do some repairs but it's a great highway cruiser which helps for my weekly commute between YYC and YMM. Not the most fuel efficient but meh, at least it has a MASSIVE fuel tank (75L). The CVT hasn't been an issue at all, and is perfect for highway cruising. It's certainly not a driver's car per say, but as my first car, I'm very happy with it! Got it at ~215,000km, now just shy of 235k
A bought a 2005 Ford 500 Limited LOADED for $1750. Has the AWD CVT. They were an older couple and went down from the $2000 they were asking because I'm a Veteran. Meticulously maintained.. all the paperwork. Talked with the mechanic and he said "BUY IT"!! Never missed an oil change. Be advised. A design flaw is the wiring harness resting on the low pressure A.C line. Has a tendency to wear through due to vibrations over years. I'll tell you this.... best used car I've ever bought. Had it for a year and not a problem.
Just got a 500 w 175k on it, never seen a winter and been garaged all its life, runs beautifully and has absolutely no issues. Got it for 3k from my dads boss, such a steal in this car economy!
I have this car and it’s amazing. It always tells me when I need an oil change so that’s beneficial for me especially being a college student. I love my car.
I love this car .2006 500. 👍 I get so many compliments from Riders. I used car for Uber and Lyft I wish I didn't have to😂 Had replaced suspension part on it totally restored bought the car from my sister for. $4000 with a 114000 miles on it. I have 266,000 on it now and it runs great I actually think that 3.0 liter V6 runs pretty darn good. handled great really like this car all wheel independent suspension I'll take it over a Beamer any day. Great value. Averaging 22 miles a gallon.
Growing up my grandparents bought one of these. Had it fully loaded and everything. It was a really sweet car, kinda itches me from time to time to buy one.
If I remember correctly, one of the features of the 500 was its height. They were very easy to get in and out of. Perhaps Ford was trying to sell this as a replacement for folks who were trading in their old Crown Vics. In New York City in the 80s and 90s, the Crown Vic was a great car to have, because it shared the drivetrain with the Lincoln Town Car. The Town Car was the number one private transportation vehicle in Manhattan. They were called “black cars“. In Brooklyn and Queens, there were 1 million repairs shops that specialized in Town Car repairs, so by default they were a million parts available for both models.
My aunt had one and loved it. Her parents bought her a used 2008 Ford Taurus AWD that has also been a great vehicle for her. I’ve driven it, and it’s probably one of my favorite vehicles I’ve ever driven. Plus the interior looks awesome and leather seats are very comfortable.
Purchased an ‘08 in 2016 that was in pristine condition with only 3800 miles on the odometer! It has been a great car so far and has to be one of the most comfortable vehicles to take out on the highway for a road trip! Lots of room inside, rides like a dream, decent acceleration once they moved to the 3.5 Duratec with the 6-speed transmission - I plan on keeping mine and enjoying it for many years!
Just got a 500 for 4 grand and I’m not disappointed so far. She cruises and she is slow but isn’t 4 cyl slow. Although the are from the most I’ve seen prone to rust all around the rear fenders by the wheel wells
I test drove a awd 500 sel loaded and those were the most comfortable seats I felt and sat in on any car this decade. Including large expensive sedans. I couldn't believe how comfy they were. Great cars easy to find and service, cheap too I'd love to have one
Had bought one of these cars back in 2016 with about 120k miles for 3k. Eventually sold it to my dad for cheap and now it’s still in the family and still running. Hardly any issues.
I bought a 2005 Ford Freestyle (cross-over SUV body with the same internals as the 500) new in 2006. Over 270K miles and it's still going strong. As for 'what happened?' after 2007, Ford decided to rebrand the car as the (then) newest version of the Taurus X.
My buddy drives one of these, and he has a lead foot. I believe it has the 6 speed, and even though it only has around 120,000 miles it doesn’t show any signs of stopping. I’ve driven it and it rides like a damn dream
My wife's friend had one. The tensioner went out on the timing chain. I replaced that for her, and she never had another problem with it. She finally got rid of it at 530K miles. Unbelievable for a ford!
I bought one a few months ago for $1,500. It's a great car. Alternator went out on it. That's the only issue it had. I drive 42 miles one way to work 6 days a week. Average is around 31 MPG. Insurance on it is also very cheap.
@@macdilnessa1025 ford 500 and the Taurus and the mustang have been reliable for a while. I had a 1999 mustang that went up to 275 k until engine gasket went out...ford like dodge will rust if it doesnt get a car wash every couple days in the winter.
Had one of these as a rental when it came out, way up north for some work that took me to the literal end of the road and a little past. Comfortable and confident car. Radio and Sat Radio and climate, what other toys do you need. You could push into soft traction and just feed the throttle and you'll get there ... eventually. No unpredictable behavior and not delicate like some of the other AWD car options.
ive had mine since 2009, have 240000 kms , great car, just replaced rear wheel bearings , rotors and breaks, car rides so smooth. regular service and oil change, interior is immaculate, never gonna part with this car, hopefully will last another five to ten years
I have an 05 AWD with 165k had it since 2014. bought it with 80k on her never had any issues besides awd pump in the rear end and was due to poor maintenance but sitting at 21 ish mpg I love it it's been great I want another one. If I can find one with decent low miles I wouldn't blink an eye to buy it
I have a 2008 Ford Taurus as my first car. It has been very reliable. Its essentially a 500 with a peppier engine, and a more reliable 6 speed tranny. I love the thing to death. Bought it with 103500 miles last March. Sitting at 143000 miles right now. I've babied it. Pure dream to road trip in.
I have a Five Hundred with a 6-speed auto I bought new on '07 and still have it. It runs great, the comfort is excellent, and I think it's probably the best sedan I ever bought. It just turned over 255,000 miles.
Well making the car unreliable is the wrong way to go then. They should instead make the cars bulletproof but instead of selling the cars outright they should sell them on a 10 year lease and recall them at the end of the lease for disposal.
I have a 2007 500 limited love the car ride and handling mine has the 6 speed automatic and runs great even though it's 184000 miles on it and it still a great car
We have a 2006 Ford 500 in white it's as nice as my 2004 Lincoln Town Car Ultimate in red. Both have amazing rides, are relatively easy and inexpensive to maintain, and both are still ticking after 175k miles...
I have an 2006 Ford five hundred limited with FWD and Asin 6-speed automatic tranny. No problems at 130,000. I keep it serviced regularly, including changing tranny fluid. I love it! Yea, its a grandpa car, but Im a grandpa, lol.
I had a 2005 Ford Fivehundred limited and I loved it. It had the 6 speed transmission and didnt have any issues. I wish I still had it. Thanks for the video and a trip down memory lane.
I've had my 2007 500 (FWD) for about four years, and while a lot broke down over time it was only because everything inside it was the same parts as when the previous owners bought it in 2006. Amazing the car lasted until 2019 without any parts changed. Currently at 277,755 miles and still going strong! Comfortable, versatile, and it can get up and go when you need it to. It ain't a Supra, but it sure as Hell ain't no Prius Edit: before anyone says "they lied to you", I had some shops check it out. They found date marks on the engine, belt, battery, AC compressor and a few other parts that were inspected and confirmed legit. All mentioned but the engine have been replaced in the past year when they finally gave out (or in the compressor's case, exploded)
Update: she's dead. A few months ago, a deer ran out from behind a shed at top speed, maybe ten feet from me, while I was traveling at 70 MPH. She kept going strong for about a month, but after her brakeline ruptured and some other damage, I had to replace her with a 2013 Dodge Charger Pursuit. I went to start her up yesterday to make sure she was still kicking; won't even crank. The battery's probably dead. That's $250+ on top of $3,000+ to fix the body, headlight and windshield damage, plus the brakeline, plus the steering stuff and God knows what else-I'd spend less money just buying another Five Hundred. I'm gonna check around some scrapyards and see what they'll give me for her. If it's too low, I'm gonna sell her parts. Breaks my heart.
@@spades7ifefor 2008-2009 it was the same design except for a different grille, drivetrain and nameplate. Interior and exterior for the most part is exactly the same
@@spades7ife yup... First the Five Hundred/Freestyle then the 2008/2009 Ford Taurus and Taurus X are Ford platform (D3) evolved from the Volvo s80 platform...I just bought one. I'm surprised that I like it as the cvt was holding me back but now I like the way it functions.
Hey Scotty - I just picked up a 2007 F-500 Limited AWD with the CVT with 27,000 original miles. Totally loaded. No dents, dings, rust or chips - it is nearly perfect and looks like it could have rolled off the show room floor. Yes it is slow on the uptake but it can roll along at 70 and make you feel like you're coasting but it more than makes up for lack of acceleration in comfort. I worried about the CVT, seeing how other car companies with CVT's seem to have lots of trouble but decided I'd give this one a chance since the total low miles and availability of the service record. The only thing I don't like is the sound system - I plan on replacing the OEM system with a more advanced double DIN screen version with phone integration features. Other than that I'm quite pleased with my granpa car.
I love the 500s I had two and the best cars I've had. My first one save my wife life in a head on wreck at 55mph. Walk away with a scraped knee. They are solid cars and an awsome first car with a CVT. I would still by another one
I have a Ford Freestyle AWD (basically the same car)with a CVT,150,000 miles and still going strong,no issues, just routine maintenance.Great car, mine has plenty get up and go.
I owned a 2007 SE. At 180,000 miles it started to have issues starting. Eventually stalled out. No mechanic could figure it out. Loved it. And every time I have to squeeze into my 2012 Ford Fusion I miss it more.
2:41. Manufacturers use 20 weight oil to meet federal emission standards. Putting 20 weight oil in any vehicle will lower emissions but it will also prematurely destroy your engine. If you want to extend the life of your engine use 0-30 AmsOil.
To the safety of this car, I was hit on the driver side at 50mph ,when I was turning into the hwy. And the air bags didn't have to deploy. The windows stayed intact as well. Felt like getting a good bump in a bumper car, although it did bend the frame the doors are still able to open and shut normally. The only other than the 500 I've been in an accident with is the Crown Victoria, and I'd say that the 500 feels safer.
VegaTron2020 Yeeesssa! not with these cars! They seem to not have any problems with the CVT's! Perhaps it's the combination of that bulletproof 6 Cylinder engine with the CVT that work well together!
@VegaTron2020 Yeeesssa! I bought mine new in 2006 and it still runs and looks great. I've had no problems with the transmission or engine. Now, if you buy one somebody ran the hell out of, and didn't keep it serviced, that may be another issue. Should have had Scotty look at it first, lol.
Those are great cars. I used to work at a Ford dealership back in 07 and they had 2 of them they used for shuttle vehicles. Both had over 200k miles on it and taking a good beating everyday.
Personally I think this is an amazing car. I love my 2005 five hundred and it has the 6 speed automatic. 186,000 miles and never had a problem with anything on this car. I even pull a 4'x8' trailer with it. I do change the fluid in the transmission every 30,000 miles. My mother bought the car new and when she died I took the car over. With good maintenance these cars are amazing. The guy that made this video is right about the ride of it. It is very comfortable and the 6 speed automatic cars are pretty quick. I plan on keeping this one for a long time!
Definitely. Mine is spectacular and just really practical and perfect in a lotta ways. I’ve been through a lot of used cars and Fords tend to be pretty damn tough and have longevity. Not all of them but all the ones I had.
The reason the air works so good is because here in Wisconsin the Snow starts in September and does not go away until June. Not much need to turn the air conditioning on!! You are the best, thanks.
Ive always liked those!... Yesterday a coworker brought a Mercury (rebadged 500) to work, saying it was her grandfathers car, and she borrowed it while her Focus was in the shop. Out here in California Tesla country, it was a cool sight!
@@robertb6362 I have a Ford 500 sel 2006 with 145,900 miles on it the only thing was replaced was the altnater and battery. I bought when it had 84,300 miles on it. It's been a very realibul car. I had no problems with the transmission it is a 6 speed aoutomaic. It drives nice and smooth.
I had a 2007 with the 6 speed. It was a pretty decent car, except for some small electrical issues with the power windows, and if your battery was going the whole car would just shut down mid drive. replaced the A/c compressor at around 65k miles. But overall still a decent car.
I had a Mercury Montego and the renamed Sable version. Both had the six speed and I never had a problem. The ‘09 (last year) had 186k on it when I traded it. Very comfortable cars.
My wife bought a 2005 SEL with the 6-speed trans at 80k. It has 150k on it now, no trans problems, BUT we have replaced the AC compressor, alternator and throttle body. The throttle body was over $800, ouch. SO, that's over 70k miles in 8 years, not too bad really. It looks and drives like new. My gripe is that the aluminum wheels corrode, and every year we have to have them buffed so the tire will stay sealed. Otherwise, winter freeze comes and we lose all our air in 1 or more tires, and we usually don't check the tires each time we get in, so it gets wrecked, and we have to replace that tire. That's a real pain in the neck. Knowing all that, I would buy another at the right price...
I remember that car Scotty! I was working on the Assembly line when Ford discontinued the 2004 Taurus and we started building it in August 2004 at the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant. We also built the Mercury Montego and Ford Freestyle. Good Video. If they still seem like a good car to you maybe we will come across a local used one for purchase.
Just picked up an 06 Mercury Montego (twin to the 500) with 76000 original miles on it. Going to be my son's first car. Very roomy, rides and handles good, and quite comfortable. It's a shame that Ford didn't market them properly because they seem to be pretty decent cars. I did my research before buying it, and they seem to have very few known issues, other than maintenance, which is of course normal.
I got one of these for $1500 2 years ago with 150,000 miles, its up to 200,000 now and all I've done is a starter and regular maintenance. Very nice and reliable car I do recommend getting one if you find a good deal.
Scotty: "Don't buy Fords!" "Don't buy AWD vehicles!“ “Don't buy cars with CVTs!“ Also Scotty: "Buy this AWD Ford with the CVT!" Just messing with you Scotty! Ford knew they screwed up with the 500 branding because a couple years later they just rebadged it to a Taurus again lol
The Taurus was the best selling car in America so typical of Ford, they quit building them. Years later, they admitted they screwed up but by that time the "new" Ford Taurus doubled in price, eliminating the reason they were the best seller.
Scotty hasn't said to not buy a Ford. Ford seems to be Scotty's favorite american manufacturer that is second to Toyota though he will generally recommend the F150 over the tundra. Depends on vehicle.
@@northdakotaham1752 Note that the Taurus was not the best selling car anymore when they discontinued it, it was passed by the Camry a several years prior. In 2006 Ford sold 174k Tauruses but Toyota sold 448k Camrys, in 2007 the Taurus (as a Mid-Size car) was discontinued.
I have an ‘07 500 (2WD). I paid $2,200, and it’s I’m perfect condition for 13 years old. Only issue is an almost non existent oil leak which will be fixed soon. Love the car.
I have a 1997 Lincoln Town car, obviously it's a ford. It's the best car I've ever owned. I want a second one. I would love to have one of these as well. I don't buy Japanese vehicles generally. I do like older Hondas though from the early 2000s and down
They are very good cars. I own the AWD Freestyle Limited (wagon version of the 500) with the V6 Duratec and CVT. Been an amazing car. Absolute tank in the snow. Only issue is working on the engine due to engine placement. Swapping an alternator is a serious job lol

Hi what year was your dad's ford 500 ?
I heard 6 speed was the best not cvt
My cousin has a 500 AWD here in Pennsylvania. 300,000 miles. Total beast. Room, goes and goes. No major issues, just standard maintenance.

I have the 2006 with Asin tranny, no problem's, I keep the fluids changed regularly.

Be advised. My mom bought a new one back in December 2004. She gave it to my uncle last year and it's still running strong at 280k miles!
Easy to enter and exit because Ford copied the Hudson Hornet and used a drop-down floor ... the floor went down and that makes the doors higher.
Lots of room inside, rides like a dream, decent acceleration once they moved to the 3.5 Duratec with the 6-speed transmission - I plan on keeping mine and enjoying it for many years!

Scotty recommending a Ford? From the Volvo era?
The poles have shifted.
Ford shared more tech and parts with Mazda and even Jaguar than Volvo.
The Taurus was the best selling car in America so typical of Ford, they quit building them. Years later, they admitted they screwed up but by that time the "new" Ford Taurus doubled in price, eliminating the reason they were the best seller.
Well he probably didn’t buy it as he is a mechanic and was probably fixing a car for someone.
@@northdakotaham1752 The Fusion kinda became the new Taurus and the new Taurus kinda became the Crown Victoria
Bought one for my wife, 2wd and six speed, we love it. And, it is quick, for us, anyway.
Cool, keep that puppy on the road!
Have you done any maintenance on it yourself or did you take it to a shop?
I have an ‘07 500 (2WD). I paid $2,200, and it’s I’m perfect condition for 13 years old. Only issue is an almost non existent oil leak which will be fixed soon. Love the car.
Ford makes good stuff. I can verify this with all the Ford's I have had.
Marc Harris - Fords are FABULOUS!
I have a 1997 Lincoln Town car, obviously it's a ford. It's the best car I've ever owned. I want a second one. I would love to have one of these as well. I don't buy Japanese vehicles generally. I do like older Hondas though from the early 2000s and down
Two Fords I owned and own have been solid.
Love my Ford's
WRONG...I have an E-450 with lots of issues...it has been babied but it is junk.
They are very good cars. I own the AWD Freestyle Limited (wagon version of the 500) with the V6 Duratec and CVT.
Been an amazing car. Absolute tank in the snow. Only issue is working on the engine due to engine placement. Swapping an alternator is a serious job lol
