Brock, french drains have been around for a long time while geo-tech has not. I believe that you'll be fine. The only thing that I think that I would have done a little different is that I would have put just a light coating of stone in the ditch before I laid the perforated pipe in. Just an old man offering a suggestion. Nice job. 👍👍
When you’re doing long trench work like this on your tractor, leave it in neutral, when you have to move just life your outriggers up and push yourself backwards. I have a cabbed Kubota and do that same thing

Pro Tip for ya….when possible, always start digging your trench at the low end and finish on the high end. That method flows with the natural design of the machine to dig uphill and come up out of the ground. It also makes it so if you get rained out during the job, your ditch will drain out.

Great video! I'm thinking of putting some cb's in my driveway as well. I inspect drainage and sewer projects for a living and ypu absolutely do not need geo textile fabric. If you were backfilling with a non cohesive material like gravel you would want it to keep fines out of the perforations but with stone or clay ypu don't need it.

great job Brock, I would be a little concerned about undermining the compacted dirt that is underneath your slab where your trench is. heavy cars and trucks May crack the edge of the concrete slab in time . I like seeing a 6-in slab for driveways at least around the edge
Nice trench! The first French drain I dug with my bx23s, I found an older deeper French drain that was full of water. I hit the drain and immediately filled the drain I was digging. It was helpful though because that part of my yard is slightly sloped so I had a hard time determining by eye if I was going down hill. I self drilled some 3" schedule 40. Wish I would've used 4" because that thing takes on a ton of water.

Hello from Finland. Here we have french drains around the house and solid pipes underground that lead the rain water from the roof away from the house. Rain water soaking in the ground around the house is a bad idea even with french drains.

You can push yourself with the Backhoe, but it’s really slow going and feels like it can barely push it. Maybe because my tractor is has a lot of extra weight on it? Plus it’s extra stress on the backhoe cylinders so I generally just get off and move the tractor. All that said, I’m almost always you working on a slope which makes it trickier, whereas This was perfectly flat ground so it might’ve worked easier
Should we get a pool together to see who in Brook's family is the first one to drive/fall into the open ditch? I know if I left one open on my yard, everyone of my family members would end up in it even if they hadn't been in that part of property for years. They just have a way of finding those things.

@@RockhillfarmYT from my research the need for fabric depends on the surrounding material. You mainly have clean rock there with little dirt to clog the line. If you buried that in the yard you'd want to wrap it in fabric and put rock against the pipe to avoid soil entry and clogging. It would probably still work but maybe not as long as it could have.
Gonna work just fine. Heavy rains flood my place because of the lay of the land and the road. The grader will not cut a ditch. I made one and was working until he bladed material in it and blocked it up again.
I’ve seen guys not even use the pipe in a scenario like that, since the clean 3/4” rock will not compact, the water will drain down it like a French drain. How wide is that trenching bucket?
The bucket is 6 inches wide so you probably end up with a trench 8 inches wide You are right about not even using the pipe being an option. I did a video a long time back comparing the fronthoe (stump bucket) to a backhoe for different jobs. I dug a little 12” x 12” trench in that video running diagonal from the shop. All I did was put 2 inch clean rock in it and it still drains well a year later
They never used fabric for thousands of years. All of a sudden you need it to make your drain work. The ones who believe in using fabric probably need tought how a clay field drain works. If anything you use river gravel up to 3 inches from the surface and stone the rest of the way. Then there is river gravel up to 4 inches and a layer of straw then you put stone the rest of the way.
You will be sorry you used slotted black pipe. The way you did this it will only work for a short time. The pipe will fill up with dirt and become useless. Go watch Gate City drainage and he will show you the proper pipe to use.

Do far so good. A lot of people put geotextile fabric under the pipe. It works without it
