Nice new bucket Jim A couple things. When measuring a bucket width we generally measure the widest part which is usually the cutting edge. It looks like you got some mere width there so technically you’ll be digging that wide. Secondly, depending on the depth of your trench, your bucket and thumb pins will be gouging into the sides of the trench if you go deeper than the length of your bucket so keep an eye on that. If you’re only digging a foot or so id not worry about it but deeper id at least remove that thumb. Side pressure on trenches can really wear on your pins and keepers/bolts. A pro tip here would be to order a cutting edge as wide or more than your pins if your doing a lot of deep digging.
Its 18" from edge to pin. I'll probably remove the thumb. Looks like the pin bosses will still drag the sides. An 8" bucket would've probably been a better purchase but I'll still give a try soon.
I have used it for 2 trenching jobs and it doesn't work to well for me. It gets packed full of clay and won't let go without using hand tools to clean it out. I ended up just using it to rip apart the ground on the job laying the 130' network run the shop. It probably would've been faster to switch back to the 12" for that job. It also isn't as wide as the thumb so the thumb and the Pins rip into the sides of the trench if you go any deeper than about 20" I don't know that I would use it for again so it's just sitting on a shelf for now.
Haven't had a chance to try a trench yet but it breaks roots much better than the 12" bucket on a stump I removed today. I love the sound of roots breaking while digging. 😎

How is this working for you? Do you use it much?

@@projectswithjw thanks for the honest opinion. It looks like there is a lot potential for it but maybe something not designed quite right.
I wanna see some trenching videos!
