- Introducing a new head-turner from HOKA - the Skyward X.
We jumped the gun on posting our first impressions earlier this month (oops!) but on the bright side, Brandon was able to rack up some more miles in the new super trainer from HOKA to give you his full review.
Available April 25th on fleetfeet.com.

I have had this shoe for 2 weeks now. It is an amazing shoe. It is the Bondi 8 enhanced.
Only review of this I’ve heard so far that calls it narrow.
Most say the toe box is pretty generous.
Let’s go! Ready to try these bad boys out!
Cliff notes: They are SO GOOD! - Brandon
I ordered my pair earlier today.
Thanks for the heads up on the narrow part.. all just go up a size 😊
@jtorres3779 I ordered 1/2 size up, too. Well, I hope this shoe is not narrower than Hoka Rocket X.
Damn, very professional review, able to articulate the characteristics really well 👍🏽
Thank you 😊 - Brandon
Wow, that is heavy! Takes it out of the running for me. Thanks for the review.
Honestly, I thought the same thing until I tried it on and ran in it. Now I love it and can't stop lacing it up! - Brandon
Your very unlikely to notice the weight on a shoes unless your an elite. Also. You not thinking going from a “heavy” trainer to a “light racer” would be off benefit? Clown
IMO the extreme weight doesn't invalidate this as a running shoe *entirely*. I mean, it just makes the Skyward *completely* unusable for ANYTHING except recovery day and "garbage" runs - like your monthly 5k/10k brunch run where you chitchat the whole time before grabbing beers & watching the game. But then you gotta ask Hoka, *who* wants a $225 recovery day ONLY shoe? I don't. I doubt many will
My cousin nurses and my small aunts will love this!😂
This is so true haha! - Brandon
The skyward x is handsome so does Brandon 😊
Some of these comments :) too heavy, it's a super trainer, not a race shoe, heavy is good when you put on your race shoe they will seem light. Not as good as the Superblast, it's better than the Superblast at long slow runs, but not as good at tempo workouts. It's too narrow, according to quite a few reviews, it's not actually that narrow. 🤷♀ Why buy if you have the Cielo? because you want to save the Cielo for Race Day or Speed workouts. I think the Skyward X and the Cielo X1 would make a great pair of Daily/Super/Race shoes. Hoka are smashing it out of the park atm.
Great Review!
Thank you! Stay tuned for more in the future. - Brandon
Interested to know if this would be a good super trainer for people who normally run in stability shoes?
It is a very stable shoe, especially with a wide base and a plate! - Brandon
Thanks for the review! I have a few questions:
Q #1: Is Hoka Skyward X lighter than NB SC Trainer V1 (the original version)?
Q2: Do I need to log more than 20 to 30 miles before breaking in Hoka Skyward X in terms of feeling the underfoot cushioning?
The weight of the Skyward X compared to the SC Trainer v1 is essentially the same, give or take .1 oz. You shouldn't have to "break in" any running shoe, in our opinion and should feel good out of the box. - Max
@@fleetfeet699 Thanks for the answers!! I really hope for bouncy and comfy rides in them!!! 😅🤗
interesting shoe, however a full plate for a daily, I'm on the fence on that and would be interested in comparison with the Asics superblast
There might just be a video around the corner that will answer this question for you! - Brandon
Nothing super about it other than it’s super heavy. They came out with the Bondi X 3 years ago basically the same shoe with a high stack and carbon plate but lighter.
No PEBA in the Bondi X really separates these shoes! - Max
Thx, solid review! This or Superblast? U would prefer?
This is a very tough call. Both are amazing shoes. But if I could only pick one, probably the Superblast! - Brandon
@@fleetfeet699 thx! I currently have the Blast & need to replace. I was hoping for a new Blast. Thx again!
no brainer. Def the Superblast. You get all the cushioning & energy return w/o the insane weight of the Skyward. Think about it... the Skyward weights as much as the Superblast + a full single serving of filet mignon. That's just crazy! You can actually do long workout sessions in the Superblast like 18mi's chunked up w/ 3-5k work intervals. But who the heck wants to go 18mi in an 11+ oz shoe like the Skyward? NOBODY sane. This is a recovery day shoe. A $225 recovery day shoe.
@@EricS-uf9mv Agreed! 🤔Although…I may start runnin long runs WITH a serving of filet mignon! 👍🏾
Will it come in wide?
I hope so! - Brandon
Would u recommend these for 10 miles walks and few miles jogging aswell
We think they'd be very comfortable for that 👍
@@fleetfeet699 thank you for your reply
How does it compare to the NB SC Trainer??
It compares very similar to the New Balance SC Trainer V1. If you loved that shoe you will love this one too! - Brandon
Good for walking
Great for walking! - Brandon
@@fleetfeet699 how different t is it from the Bondi 8 or Clifton 9?
@@rembo183 It's going to be quite different yet complimentary. The Skyward X is going to be a bit more energetic, bouncy, and propulsive with its carbon fiber plate compared to both the Clifton and Bondi.
@@rembo183 It's going to be different in that the Skyward X will feel a bit bouncier underfoot as well as more propulsive given it's carbon fiber plate.
I'll stick with the Cielo X1. It does training, it does race day - it's just the best.
The Cielo X1 is a fun shoe too! - Brandon
Way too heavy for race.
So many of Hoka shoes have narrow toe boxes. Unwearable for me. I'll stick with the Prime X strung.
All Hoka's are narrow
Generally on the more narrow side. But I find that some of their trail offerings have wider uppers! - Brandon
Hoka is overrated and too expensive.
saying hoka is overrated based on what? this model only? 😂
the fact that they specifically only focus on running shoes makes them very well known, and oh how hoka shoes are very wide foot friendly.
