Just finished my first run in these shoes and I’m really confused where I’m going to use them. As a heavy runner I find them unstable if you land anywhere near your heel such as downhill. Very soft and bouncy. Couldn’t really feel a plate but then again my easy run was 7:30km so probably too slow

Great video, funny and informative. Nice having reviews from people that don’t think that every shoe needs to be the specs of a race shoe . The price is insane though. If they are trying to get shoe that people will want to run in they have to make it affordable. Totally agree on the colour way, the men’s is kind of blah.
I hear you about the price… it will be the one limiting factor because the shoe is definitely a good shoe.

this does make me wonder, what goes into the decision to gusset or not to gusset tongues .., if they think it may be a triathlon shoe yes.., everything else goes to the decision making panel ?

I think it’s trying to manage weight but yeah for me… I think we need to have a universal agreement that all shoes should be gusseted 😂😂😂
It's not only weight but the gusseted tongue makes the shoe less breathable and harder for you to get the shoe on and off your foot. Topo has the smartest and simplest solution. They use 2 small loops at the top of the tongue. When you thread the laces thru the loops, they tighten up around the laces which makes it very difficult for that tongue to move at all.

I could be wrong but don't the Tri Noosa's also come with elastic laces as an option. I know alot of tri athletes use those type of laces since it makes it so easy to slip a shoe on and off. Just for the record, I have average width feet and gusseted tongues sometimes take a few extra seconds to get my feet in and out but it's not a problem. The upside is the comfortable feel and support it gives me wrapped around more of my foot.
I tried it on at my local store and loved the step in feel. The price has stopped me for now though. Might have to wait for a birthday gift card or sale. Great video, I hope you get more chances to do that in the future.
I’d say it’s two shoes in one. Despite what they say, it handles tempo runs really well. So if you look at it that way, the price is fair.
@@RyKnocksyou raise a good point because it’s all relative. Tempo for one person varies with another. In the case where you have a good rotation of running shoes… there are much more suitable shoes for a tempo run. If you don’t… then yeah I agree with you.

This feels springier and more propulsive than the Bondi x, but just as soft and durable!
Great collab - enjoyed that. Nice shoe too, but for that amount of money, and for that use, I think I'd rather get the Superblast... Yes, no carbon plate, but that's a feature for the use, not a bug.
This shoe was actually what I was expecting the Asics Superblast to be: a comfortable cruiser that is adept at faster paces and will not destroy your feet. I guess Hoka was really going for a crazy tall shoe that doesn't remind us of maybe an Asics Superblast or an Adizero Prime X.
Is the cielo generous in the midfoot area? Hoka are usually snug and arch support too aggressive. My midfoot is slightly wide and I have low archs so raceday options are limited :(
The Cielo x1 was actually a little wide for me because of the very structured upper, but I have a narrow foot. I haven’t run in the Cielo Road though
@@RunLikeHeller Tried the cielo and it fit perfect. First Hoka that didnt kill my arches lol. Gonna use it for my HM tomorrow.

What an awesome collab!!! Not sure about HOKA - loved my Clifton 6s for 150km but they then hurt my medial arch. Heard so many others saying the same thing about more recent HOKA models. That convex plate sounds like it would make it even worse…! Ok ok so how would you compare this to the NB Super Comp trainer? The V2 is still my plushy “do it all” super trainer…and now the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4.. how would you rank them?
I think I like the sc trainer v2 better than skyward x and speed. It’s pretty much my favorite shoe so it’s hard to beat. Skyward x is much heavier and feels it on foot

These seem like a candidate for replacement of my SC Trainer V1's, which I really like for easy days, though sometimes the plate stiffness is a bit bothersome. How does the plate in the Skyward compare to the SC V1?
It’s actually a very similar shoe! I’d say the plate in the sc trainer v1 is more noticeable but not by too much!

I am looking for a plush shoe for placing in my rotation, i am a 53 year old male with 33 years of Military Service in the Canadian Army, so i suffer with a mild case of Plantar Fasciitis, i know you are not a doctor but would like to ask your opinion if this shoe would be better for my feet over the Clifton 9 or the Cielo X1? I 6 days a week with one day recovery, I run 8-10km with an average pace of 4:50min a KM so looking for the right shoe for mid to end week when the feet are begining to show there age. Great review of the Skyward, hope to hear back from you soon. Add another Sub to help you reach your 30K goal this year. By that way i am new to Hoka i have the Challenger ATR 7 as I do run on pavement and some trail on the same runs and they help alot with the feet so looking to stick with the Hoka from now on and looking to build my rotation stock, so any Hoka recommondations will be helpfull.
Hey there! As someone who has suffered from PF in the past, I really had trouble with plated shoes. That being said the Cielo X1 might be uncomfortable for you at the moment. The Clifton 9 or the Skyward X are both great options. The skyward x does have a plate, but because of how much foam there is you really don’t feel it as much as you do in the Cielo X1. I hope this helps!
I truly appreciate your feedback, I am trying to keep my running a part of my life as I reach older years and my feet are the most affected and finding the right shoe is a must. Thank you

220 dollars for easy run shoe is a bit too much for me.
NB more v4. Does the same job at half the price. Apart from the Mach 6, Hoka have completely failed in 2024 compared to many other brands

This much money for heavy clunker to do daily and long runs - not sure if shoe or price is way to heavy - way more better choices for that price.... if hoka would price it in line with most daily trainers and we might have something here ... but in this price bracket ill rather get another pair of adios pro 3 or superblast etc.. (honesty there is so mamy very good shoes on the market) for same or cheaper price, and use it for that and lot more .... just saying

Same price as the Superblast but with a carbon plate, more stability and rocker rolling. Its heavy but it's a Hoka so you're getting a shoe that your knees and hips will thank you for
