Hammer AXE Review | Reactive Spare Ball?! | BrunsNick

  • This is a very unique ball!
    The main utility of this ball serves as a durable spare ball. Easy enough. But I wanted to drill it with my typical 60x4x20 and adjust the surface to see if it would give me any track flare or usable hook potential. The ball ended with finger weight at the 3oz limit, you can definitely see it wobble a little!
    The Hammer Axe comes in 3 colors and is available starting 05.25.2023.

      @@whattheheckman3004 I have the spy that I got from my dad and the pin is above the bridge and mb kicked out and I have sanded it to 500 trucut and on burned up oil on old wood lanes with the torque I put on the ball like I do with the DV8 slime green spare ball and my Geico plastic ball that you would see on tour on tv in 2007-2009 on the rack . I can put hook the spy by 1 arrow against the spy in the same spot and same exact shot and slower speed like 15 to 16 mph from my 17 to 18 mph normal ball speed . But I am liking the motion of the axe .

    Really want to get this one, but that reactive shell makes me nervous about corner pins. I don't completely flatten my release for spares anymore as I've found myself being more accurate keeping it closer to my natural shot. If this Axe hooks a good deal more than a Storm Mix or Motiv Sniper then I might run into 10 pin trouble. Tough call.

    I like to see how it reacts as a spare ball during the 6th, 7th and 8th game of an 8 game block. It might store energy and who knows. There was a reactive ball like this called the scout/r from Columbia 300 back in the early 2000’s. Thanks BrunsNick!

  • @traviskirk3834
    @traviskirk3834 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I have a question in my Sunday night league on old wood with broken down lane oil reactive and urethane are either not right or are too much so i threw a geico viz-a-ball same as the pros on tv used for spares in the early 2000's . I have it at 500 grit and people hated it that i could throw sanded plastic while they struggled to get there equipment to work. So i retired the geico and got me a used spare storm black gold at 90 hardness at 500 grit with a pancake core and the pba plastic ball layout and it will hook and then when i can move in it dies. While the geico with i think the bullet core i could stand 5 to 15 and hook back high flush . So would the axe work with a little bit of surface to it with a pin in palm or a more hooking layout work for speed dominate lefty. Thank you for reading this and i am a fan of your videos always informational.

    Honestly I would love to see a line from Hammer of Resin Pancake balls at different coverstock strengths.
    I love pancake balls with label layouts, the most controlled motion you can get, but still plenty of hit when they match up right.
    I have a Grey Rhino with label and on a drier house shot that thing hits as hard as any modern ball today.
    Dynamic cores can help, but they can also hurt. The simple sweeping controlled ball motion of pancake is not to be underestimated.

      I have a lane master tempest (pancake core with a reactive cover, I believe it's a stronger reactive cover than on the axe but unsure ) and that ball has no business being as good as it is. I've used it on the 38' IBF Los Angeles pattern and that ball gave me such a predictable shape it wasn't even funny. For such a low ratio pattern I was surprised I was able to throw it at all, much less crank out a couple 230s.

      @@nordattack Nice! I've thought about picking up another and drilling it weaker because the one I have now is drilled 3 1/2" x 0°, so all it wants to do is go. Was thinking either 2"x50° or just putting the pin in my palm (probably with a decent bit of surface) so it will just be controlled.

    • @nordattack
      @nordattack ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@PIEDUDE17 Just go with a standard Label layout like they did in the old days. CG in Palm. Then you would have ultimate control with Max RG and smallest Diff.
      Ball would retain a ton of energy and be usable in the dirt. That's what I plan to do. Also when you put the CG in the palm that ball can be used for any style from Full Roller to Semi-Roller, to Spinner, two-hands etc. PAP does not matter.

    As a spare ball, you have to change your hand position considerably in order to get it to go straight. If you apply your normal axis rotation, it will hook enough to create problems on the 10-pin for a right hander. I'm a two-hander, and I've found a way to adjust the way I set my hand into the ball so that I cal roll this over the holes and make it go just about dead straight. If you happen to need it as an emergency strike ball on the dirt, it is MUCH better than a plastic ball.
