    This is very cool....thank you. One thing that might be helpful for these electronic kits (this is the first e-drum set video I've ever looked at), is to always include what it sounds like un-amplified. You did mention this was not totally silent....so to someone who doesn't even know what that sounds like, it would be cool for a sample; and would serve as a comparison across e-drum kits for review.

    • @35milesoflead
      @35milesoflead 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I have one of these kits. It's practically silent but for the kick drum pad. My studio is first floor in a house, we only have one neighbour directly attached and night time drumming is a nightmare due to the kick pad. The rest of the kit is silent compared to the kick. I don't have a decibel reading for you but, I did see one video testing the pad with an output of about 60 - 80 dB.
      Due to the pad being fitted to the frame, every kick beat goes thru the floor AND vibrates the frame a touch. Subsequently, I have decided to upgrade the kick to a KT-10. At another £150 it seems expensive. But sound proofing is much more expensive comparatively.

    Nice do more eDrums! I love the regular content but eDrums is a blooming market right now so only makes sense. Plus it's always good to hear a recording engineers perspective on an eKit. Much more valuable IMO than the average Joe just saying "I just bought this kit I love it" or the sales pitch.

    Can we just take a minute to appreciate the visual sharpness of whatever camera you're shooting this video with?? Like every little hair on the hosts beard, every tiny hair protruding from his recently shaved head and even his jumper - the very wool texture is sharp, high fidelity and mesmerizing. It's hypnotic studying his every facial detail. Great picture quality is all.
    Drums look great too.

    • @PutItAway101
      @PutItAway101 ปีที่แล้ว

      That quality you get with a decent size lens that's actually gathering enough light for the sensor to do its work without having to guess what's image and what's noise and lose fine details in the process

    I've not played a full drum set since the early 90s and I have always wanted to get back into playing, but the cost to re-enter the world, as well as how to mitigate noise has prevented me from doing so. I think I can finally afford a small investment and have always liked Roland as a brand, I've tried cheaper sets and it felt like I would have been better off banging on the underside of a large bucket or pots from the kitchen. Thanks for this review.

    I had those pads. Two of them are now relegated to effects pads. I have since replaced them with mesh 10" tom and 12" snare pads. Why? I found while "passible" that it really takes a 10" surface (or larger) for a mesh kit to feel natural. There is (IMO) a leap in playability and feel when going from an 8" to 10" playing surface.

    • @35milesoflead
      @35milesoflead 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure you have had this question answered or not. Both the TD1 Module and the td17 module use the DB-25 connector. In theory, it's a matter of swapping modules, plugging in and playing.
      Source:- www.roland.com/uk/products/td-17/specifications/
      Scroll down to the "connections" part of the spec sheet.
      I have no experience swapping out the module of the TD1 yet, but have looked for an upgraded module. However, on paper, it seems simple enough.

    • @FIT3Y
      @FIT3Y 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@35milesoflead hey jake you seem very knowledgeable on electric kits, i was wondering if you could help me out im looking for a good electric kit the main feature im looking for something compact but without sacrificing sound quality. So far this seems like the smallest and best quality. Do you have any recommendations. Thanks

    • @35milesoflead
      @35milesoflead 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FIT3Y Hi, Jamie, I am a google ninja, so I had this stuff bookmarked.
      I chose the TD1-DMK kit for a few reasons. Latency as a midi controller was the main focus. There are 15 kits onboard but I also track EZDrummer with the TD1 sending midi to my DAW. It was second choice - the Alesis was a consideration until I spoke to the shop that sold me the Roland and they informed me of the latency over the Alesis. I also use a reasonable amount of Roland gear so you could call me a "fanboy". Amp, fx, looper, pocket sized 4-Track recorder, etc.
      However - I am a guitarist first and foremost. My experience as a drummer is limited at best. As such, I don't want to give you the wrong advice on which product is best for you. I have only really been playing drums since February 2020.
      Previously I have tried percussive guitar, cajon, djembe, an Atom pad (mpc-style) controller and now the V-drums setup. Tracking with the atom was fun but didn't feel right. For me, I needed the real feel of a kit. The mesh kit gives me that. Even if I swapped out the kick controller for a silent kick to make my kit near silent.
      Would I recommend my kit? Yeah, probably. I like it and it does what I want, what I need and a bit more besides.
      But as I am a guitarist first, the drums are my quarternary instrument and therefore my advice on kits is not the same as the advice a drummer would give you. You could say my advice is unqualified at best.

      Depends on how you are recording but EZDrummer works with this kit really well.
      Also, Bandlab's Cakewalk has a virtual drum kit which is plug and play with this kit. It's free too.

    • @MCM686
      @MCM686 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As you can see, it has the module of a TD 1k v, I own it the difference is the more ergonomic set and the tom toms are also mesh as the snare, and the dedicated tower for the bass drum and pedal.

    • @35milesoflead
      @35milesoflead 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @MCM686
      @MCM686 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@35milesoflead Hey Jake I apologize for my error in my comment I meant to say I own the Td1 kv not the TD 25K, although I play it at work and the bass drum tower is not an issue, it doesn't bug me at all, I have not played the one you own, but its definitely worthy, its pricey but durable.

    • @35milesoflead
      @35milesoflead 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MCM686 No problem or confusion - you already mentioned the kit you had. It's exactly the same module as the TD-1DMK - or dual mesh kit. Both the Td17KV and the TD-1DMK utilise the TD1 module with the DB-25 connection.
      My kit is in a first floor home studio so the neighbours were able to hear my kick. I had had no complaints but I was too conscious of the "thud" against the frame using a traditional kick pedal. Now, with the KT-10 (which is compatible with your kit) I can drum at unsociable hours.
      Yeah, the pedal was a little pricey but cheaper than soundproofing my room! Plus the added versatility is priceless.

    • @patrick-jones
      @patrick-jones 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know it’s a bit late but if you have the headphones on then they won’t be able to hear the drums at all. The point of edrums for some people is because the people around them can’t hear much noise but they can hear nearly like a proper drum kit. Hope this helped

    • @TheMoogler
      @TheMoogler 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patrick-jones The problem is definitely the kick drum, the drum pads would be unlikely to annoy the neighbours, but stomping on the pedals will definitely travel through the floor and walls, especially the proper kick pedal on the bass pad.

      @patrick-jones 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheMoogler After playing on these for a while, I have found this to be true, the bass drum does make quite a noise, but obviously it's much better than an normal kit, it might travel through one wall, so be aware if your neighbors are beside the room you're in, but if not, don't worry

    I bought this on the strength of reviews without the opportunity to try one first. Instant buyer's regret. No matter how responsive are now in comparison to earlier, it's still NOTHING like an accoustic kit. The ride cymbal bell sound is harsh and dominating, there's no nice bright rim click sound on the snare, the hi hats sound too quiet, you can't mix the relative volumes of the individual components etc... I'm looking for a quick resale and then upgrading to a new accoustic kit.

    I can see the sense in buying this, it's a pity that it looks like an invalid carriage. I'm learning to drum and this would make practising more environmentally acceptable. £600 is good value but I still wouldn't use one as I associate electronic drum sounds with the worst of 80s music. Sorry but I can't shake off my bias.
