    I bought this kit and it is amazing. I could not afford the higher level kits so I chose this over the alesis. I’m heavy handed and I was concerned if this kit could handle that and not break down structurally and not comprimise notes. I have not been let down. The only drawback is that the hi hat is not as responsive as I’d like it to be. Other than that, u get what Uve paid for. I am very happy with this purchase and for the price it can’t be beat. I also have a double pedal that’s very responsive. Overall I’d give this kit a 9 out of 10. The rating of 9 is due to lack of nuance from the hi hat. Other than that this kit rocks if u do.

    why is it that u hit the cymbal on the ride it sounds like a ride and sometimes it sounds like a crash? is it depends on how u hit the cymbals? because it would be great if i can use that cymbal as a crash/ride

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes exactly. The ride cymbal is a dual-zone pad, with one trigger for the bow and one for the edge. When you strike the edge, it triggers the crash cymbal sound. When you strike the bow, it triggers the ride cymbal sound. It's also velocity sensitive, so if you strike the bow hard, it will trigger a ride bell sound.

    Can you use a drum splitter cable on this to add an additional drum and cymbal? Im a beginner and this kit looks great and is very affordable but I would really like to add more to it if possible. Many thanks.

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tom pads are single-zone only, so you cannot split them. There's also no way to apply a custom sound to a particular trigger on the TD-1 module. The TD-1 is their most basic module and unfortunately what you're trying to do is not a basic feature. We'd recommend the TD-17 to do what you're hoping for.

    Is it possible that you can play this kit without headphones and speakers but still can hear the drums, or is it a must to add speakers,

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This kit does not have built-in speakers, which means that you'll need either headphones or an amplifier to hear the sounds coming out of the module. However, playing the kit without headphones or speakers essentially turns it into one of the most premium practice pad sets ever!

    I’m thinking of getting this kit. I feel very confident in the mesh heads on this kit but I’m wondering if the double kick trigger pad will hold up to Tech Death Metal style playing. How durable and responsive is the double kick pad/ triggers? Can it withstand prolonged fast doublebass, Blast Beats, etc and not wear out or break within a short period?

    • @antondubkov
      @antondubkov 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have this kit for about 3 weeks now, playing metal etc (double bass), just learning but anyway :) It triggers well (the kick pad), but I found it requires more skill to play fast double bass with it compared to an acoustic kit (the surface is rather hard/stiff, no 'give'/rebound like the acoustic bass drum would have). But overall it's ok. Definitely durable - no signs of wear so far (i've been practicing A LOT). Using a DW3000 pedal with original beaters (felt side). People used to play metal on older rubber kick pads like KD-8 or Yamaha kp65, and this pad must be somewhat similar, I guess, so I wouldn't worry. Btw heres a Sepultura cover I recorded with it last week th-cam.com/video/bqtDxTP8jiM/w-d-xo.html

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably even more durable than higher-end models since it's essentially a solid chunk of rubber attached to the leg of the rack. Unlike other kick towers that have mesh that can wear down over time and that stand independently and can creep forward, with this one you have the weight of the entire kit helping to hold it back.

    • @bultronlagore2095

      Anton Dubkov Thank you for the info. It’s crazy because when I first started playing drums back in 1993 Sepultura was one of my favorite bands to learn drums too! I felt like I was in a time warp seeing you Cover that song! I really hate than Igor and Max Cavelera both left Sepultura. I don’t listen to the newer material since they are no longer apart of the band. So mad props 🤜🤛 to you on picking some awesome music material to learn! I figured the bass drum trigger on this kit wouldn’t have good rebound like an acoustic drum or even a mesh head. Again, thank you for the info and keep up the good work. I wish you and yours the best moving forward. Take care bud!

    Hi. Great playing!!
    I purchased this bundle thru sweetwater with the double kick pedal. Also I ordered an extra CY-12c crash cymbal and stand.
    Is it possible to change the pitch of the other crash cymbal in the brain? 2x crashes with the same pitch are useless.
    Did I make a mistake and should I cancle my cy12c and order the pdx100 instead?
    Thanks

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, the TD-1 module can accept an additional crash pad, so when you plug in your CY-12C using the Crash 2 cable, it should already be a different pitch than Crash 1. Our advice would be to swap the CY-5 ride cymbal that was included with the kit and use the CY-12C as your ride pad (even though it's a "C" crash pad) because it has a larger playing surface.

    • @matic1203cc
      @matic1203cc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@longandmcquade interesting concept.
      Probably would feel a bit better having the CY-12C as the ride. I have a few dollars left in the budget and the set still hasn't arrived to my distributor.
      Should I just order a CY-12R to replace the CY-5R and use my included bundle purchased CY-12C to replace the CY-5C?
      Or would it benefit to have the 13R, even though it's a 3 zone and the brain is only 2 zone. Probably would make the feel alot better?

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@matic1203cc There technically is no "CY-12R" or CY-12C" or "CY-5R" or "CY-5C". There's only one CY-5, which the base model of the TD-1 DMK comes with 3 of, for use on hi-hat, crash and ride. The CY-5 is perfectly fine for any of these uses, but the first to be upgraded should be the ride cymbal. The CY-12 is actually "CY-12R/C" which can be used either for ride or crash. So if you received the 3x CY-5 cymbal pads with the base model TD-1 DMK, and got an extra CY-12R/C, we'd recommend using the CY-5 pads for hats and 2x crashes, and the CY-12R/C for the ride.

    This may sound dumb but can. I just buy this kit and put a better used module on it? Which will also allow for better customisation. I saw on another comment you said you can't edit anything. Can I plug it up to my computer at least? I was really considering this kit soley based on the price and the 4 mesh heads. Looks like of fun to be had for such a low price....well for a ekit anyway.

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, you could buy this kit and put a better module on it. However, it does not make the most sense to do so and we would not recommend it. The TD-1 DMK outfit with the mesh pad set and the TD-1 module as you see here is priced at $899. If you were to upgrade the module to the TD-11 or TD-17, you'd have to spend an additional $799 - $859. In total, that would be up to $1758, and you'd have a TD-1 module that you'd frankly never use. The kit we'd recommend for you instead is the TD-17 KVS. This outfit comes with the TD-17 module which has more features and better sounds than the TD-1, and you get a much better pad set including the PDX-12 snare and PDX-8 tom pads, as opposed to the PDX-8 snare and PDX-6 tom pads on the TD-1 DMK. Also the TD-17 KVS comes with the KD-10 kick pad which has a better feel and can be easily repositioned. The TD-17 KVS kit is $1699, about $50 LESS than you'd spend on the TD-1 DMK + TD-17 module, plus you gain all the benefits we previously mentioned.

    • @longandmcquade

      For this video, Miles is monitoring his playing using the Roland PM-100 amp, but the recording is direct out of the TD-1 module into the camera. There's only one output on the module which is labeled "Output/Phones" so you would need a 1/8" to 1/4" male adapter and then a standard 1/4" patch cable into the amp.

      Do you mean using this TD-1 DMK pad set, but using your Alesis as a replacement of the Roland TD-1 module? That might work but isn't ideal and will take lots of adjustments and customization to get it to work. You'll have to figure out a new cabling system (since the included wiring harness isn't likely to be compatible) and remap the pads and adjust lots of settings like sensitivity, threshold, etc. It could work, but we'd really recommend keeping your modules and pad sets matched for reliability, playability and ease of use.

    The distance from the top of the rim to the drum surface seems a lot deeper than an acoustic kit. If I wanted to use the Roland as a practice kit, I am wondering how to cope with the difference.

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rim really isn't that much higher than a normal acoustic kit. The difference is negligible. If there is any difference, it could easily be overcome by tilting the pad a degree or two more towards you. Don't forget that the rim is a second zone with its own cross-stick sound applied to it, so Roland wouldn't want to make the rim so low-profile that it was difficult to trigger.
