2023 Ford Ranger WILDTRAK 2.0 Bi-Turbo 4x4 Review - ONROAD/OFFROAD (THAI-SPEC PRODUCTION VERSION)

- Ford has staged the media test drive event for its all-new Ranger pickup truck in Thailand, which is the first market in the world to commence sales of this new model.
Ranger deliveries to Thai customers who placed orders since the Bangkok Motor Show in March will commence at the end of this month, according to Ford officials. Up to April 30, more than 4,750 orders have been placed for the Ranger (1,472 units), Everest (1,303 units) and Raptor (1,975 units).
I drove the Thai-spec Ranger Double Cab Wildtrak that comes with an updated 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine and 10-speed automatic transmission carried over from the previous generation, but everything else is new.
The new Ranger promises excellent handling and ride comfort, along with high technology and equipment level, leaving competitors a long way behind.
The retail price for this model is Bt1,299,000 (the skid plate costs another Bt5,000).

Is the 4H mode the power still spread individually for front and rear? Or it's 50:50 front:rear

Thanks! Unfortunately we don't get the V6 diesel like Australia. Just single- and bi-turbo 2.0 diesels and the petrol V6 3.0 Turbo for the Raptor.

Great review !. for foreigners in Thailand, you are most helpful. Now i am looking for a selection of cars that i can create my final list. Its just such a shame that Mazda doesnt have theUSA spec CX-50 4x4 turbo, it looks amazing, and also subaru does not have the forrester wildeness turbo. So i must make a great list from which i can choose, and maybe this Wildtrack is on that list. New Subscriber

Great review as always. How is the 10 speed transmission doing in Thailand? Lots of issues here in 🇵🇭 with the previous generation Ford pick-up based platform.
Thanks! There has been issues here too, but Ford says several improvements have been made for the same 10-speed in the new model.

@@johannty7260 I am also concerned about that... I have my doubts, but I don't trust comments in facebook regarding issues to Ford as it wasn't detailed enough and no evidences to cover it.
The interior is more beautiful than many SUV.
And the 12-inch screen is so upmarket too.
Here is my opinion of a few stuff as i saw it here:
1.The "new cupholders" seems nice but the position (if open) seems to me we will break and knock them easily and also if i have bought a coffee the last place i want to keep it is in front of the AC vent.
2. Why still the old long gear lever???? i have seen on the F150 they even have a fold away style lever. Why is that not on offer for the Wildtrak and Raptor?
Thanks! IMO for hot drinks you can use the regular two cupholders near the gearshift lever. The F-150's gearshift lever is cool, guess the added cost might not match the Ranger's price point.

Finally found an English review of the Ford Ranger. Thanks mate. Keep it up. Is the Sedona Orange a good colour? Does it look more Red than Orange? I love red colour but it seems like there is no choice from its colour range.

I like the new Ranger. Good test video. I miss cooled seats and an electric glass sun roof. Paddle shift can fit from the new Raptor aftermarket ?

question - is the 12 inch screen so much better thenn the 10 inch screen? i'd go XLT V6 if it's not such a big difference but if it is then i would have to jump up to wildtrack to get the 12inch screen???

May I know why there is no 3.0 V6 Diesel engine for the new Ford Ranger there in Thailand? In Australia I think there is an option of the V6 Diesel, since I think the new Ranger is designed and developed there.
According to Ford, the 2.0-liter single- and bi-turbo engines are more suitable for Thai buyers. IMO the 3.0 V6 would suffer from high fuel consumption and taxes - customers who can spend more are directed to the petrol Raptor instead.

Sports mode for 4H on smooth or gravel roads.

Ford mentioned that they majorly refined the 10 Speed Transmission... May I know what is the fuel consumption for both Bi-Turbo and V6 variant please?
The bi-tutbo's average fuel economy is 13.5km/l. Not sure about the V6 diesel though.

Well, the new Raptor will get a second engine choice (2.0 Bi-Turbo) in selected markets (probably Thailand too).
Is there a manual option for the other specs?
Yes, the Wildtrak single turbo and Sport also comes with 6-speed auto and manual.
Our local reviewer who went there also compared the suspension to the nissan navara. He said its almost as comfortable. Is it true? If not better.
The Navara in Thailand has leaf spring rear suspension due to local regulations, instead of the five-link offered in other countries. So for Thailand the new Ranger has a more comfortable suspension than the Navara. If you have the five-link version, your reviewer is probably right.

We don't get the 3.0 diesel, just the single and bi-turbo 2.0 diesels, and the turbo 3.0L V6 petrol for the Raptor.

How does this compare to 2022 isuzu dmax? Interior, cabin refinement, nvh, suspension, fuel economy.

I hope here(Philippines) do have an option for a V6 diesel engine.. but i think, it's exclusive only for the Everest.. w/ those ecoboost bi-turbos, im still sceptic about its reliability/longevity because we''ve experience malfunctioning turbos on our raptor & eventually, selling it.. i have question & confirmation , is it true that you could run this new ranger ln a 4H mode at tarmac on a high speed w/out blowing your transfer case? this 4wd feature is only exist on mitsuishi's super select 2 but ive heard/seen that is now applied on both the new ranger/everest..
Hi fellow Filipino, based on the articles that I have read, unfortunately we won't get the v6 diesel we are still stuck with those tiny 2.0 but I hope im wrong and ford gives us a v6 diesel.

Btw malapit narin dumating mga next gen strada, navara, hilux at yung mga counterpart nilang mga suv baka gusto mo ng hintayin mga yun for better choices specially yung partnership ng nissan at Mitsubishi i think their pickup/suv will be a good competitor and I hope toyota step up their game in the next gen hilux/fortuner
@@kellienulud6997 Based on what i've heard/seen, the 4A mode, is a 4wd system on auto mode w/c the car sense/detect terrain through its suspension & automatically changes/switching from 2wd to 4wd, again, depending on the situation of the terrain..
@@kellienulud6997 i still dont heard from nissan, mitsu, toyota & other manufacturer developing a mid-size pickup/suv except for the upcoming tacoma/4runner w/c obviously, will be heavily copied by hilux.. & unless those japanese brands have answer to the ford's V6 diesel powerplant, why not..
put some gravel or coral on your roads. it will help a lot

Yes. We don't get the e-shifter except in the Raptor.

Thailand don't get that option.
We get just the V6 Turbo petrol for the Raptor, as well as a bunch of 2.0-liter diesels (150, 170 and 210hp).
