    I installed one on my f150 and it works. It's crazy how little particles of oil add up in the catch can. That helps your engine not have to consume the oil and burnt it in the combustion chamber. In california they say it's illegal to install on a car that didnt come with it even though it's better for the environment

    • @imakedookie

      imagine that hypocrisy, where the catch can that prevents damage and environmental exposure is the illegal thing! but you have to have catalysts and egr and all that jazz for sure. what costs more to replace? to produce? what makes the car company more money????

    I just bought an oil catch caniste4for my truck. I had to replace my iac about a year ago now and I've had to clean it twice since. Now my truck is up there in mileage. I bought the truck with many issues and I have worked most of em out. My thinking it I will help save the intake and the numerous components within the pcv path of operation. Less gunk and all that stuff the manufacturer likes to not tell you about. Thus will be my first oil canister install. So figures crossed it helps as much as I expect it too.

    I empty mine every 600-800 miles in my 2021 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi. I modified mine and added the stainless steel brillo cut to size in the top part. Was gonna use copper one but steel was available. It's the exact same one as the one in this footage except has a drain at the bottom. The O-ring tends to stretch if you keep emptying the can. I measure hiw much and with the Brillo pad in there it blocks majority of the condensate from the PCV system. Intake is spotless. But I want my engine to run cleaner… okay then open the throttle and get her a little hotter. Most people don’t drive 50 miles a day with the vehicle they own. Cars today have engines built to last 100k for emissions. Taking the oil from the engine that is designed to make it last longer will cause you headaches in the future. Only a vw, bmw, and everything under that umbrella needs a catch can because the company wants you to buy another vehicle in 5 years. Otherwise don’t do this

    If you are pouring you oil quickly into a 5.7 hemi engine the air pressure captured in the cylinder head temporarily prevents oil from passing and redirects to the intake hose where the pcv valve runs. Which means oil in the intake on start up. Ask me how i know? Are you dodge guys not sure thats not what's happening? Not saying you don't need a catch can. I think all cars should have em. How many people do you personally know that had an engine problem & a repair shop’s diagnosis was from not having a catch can? I never have in 40+ years of operating/ working on my own stuff. My middle step son has been a service writer for 20 years at both Japanese & German car dealerships… he’s never seen a mechanic’s diagnosis saying sludge from not having a catch can caused a serious mechanical problem requiring an engine being torn into or replaced.

      @@loseerich493 oil catch cans help prevent sludge and build up. Of course, service mechanics and dealerships are never going to recommend a product that prevents them from making money. They would rather charge for a cleaning service or other process.
      Part of the problem is direct injection systems and modern lighter weight oils. Oil catch cans simply help mitigate the problems caused by newer engines.

      @@P.I.E. They do exactly what you'd expect them to do... condense vapor into liquid. I'm a moderator on a group forum of over 4k people worldwide that are running a particular 2.0L direct-injected turbocharged engine in a particular car. Not a single person, including folks that do their own work, has ever posted they had an issue, let alone a catastrophic failure that was connected to anything related to not running a recovery can. Not 1. Don't get me wrong, I know it doesn't hurt anything to run one (well unless you ask the EPA), I just know that the rationale for running one is massively overblown.

    That sure isn't much oil caught in the can for 9 months driving. I have a 2018 silverado w/ a 5.3 and I put an Elite Engineering catch can on it. I have to empty mine every oil change (every 3000-3200 miles) it catches prob twice that every time. IF YOU HAVE A DIRECT INJECTED MOTOR (GDI) IN YOUR CAR THIS IS A MUST!!

    With that much oil in the catch can most of the oil you would have caught if the can was changed once a month went into the engine.
    Most people who buy catch cans buy cheap ones that do almost nothing in preventing oil from entering the intake

    • @KaffiRawr
      @KaffiRawr ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Scott Smith It won't make a difference. It's *not* an oil filter on an oil line.
      The "catch can" is for the air line going from the crank case cover back into the air intake parts.
      The catch can filters out oily particles which shouldn't be in that particular air line.

    • @KaffiRawr
      @KaffiRawr ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Scott Smith Yes, I know. The oil is in the air line as a fine mist if the car is running.
      My point is that it does not matter if the car is running or not, oil pump running or not, air pressured or not; It will *never* spew oil out of that line. Your first comment told me you thought different.

    That tiny little cup of oil in 9 months is nothing. If your engine doesn’t have port injection then maybe a catch can is worth it, but my VQ burns a quart a fill up and a catch can still wouldn’t make a bit of difference.
    The oil gets burned up during combustion and the thin coating in the intake doesn’t make a noticeable difference in power or efficiency. So really you’re just catching oil to have an additional maintenance item. Unless you’re burning so much that it can foul the cats but you would have a smokescreen in that event.
