At the height of this Pandemic mess, when arms & ammo got ridiculous, I started listing cases of 9mm FMJ for what I paid for them. The auctions were insane. Making 6 to 8x what I paid for 9mm FMJ. I got rid of a lot that way. I also listed 9mm arms for exactly what I paid for them. Also ridiculous results. I looked around. I found 45GAP Speer Gold Dot LEO ammo for .35 a round. I bought 5 cases (5k rounds) and a built Glock 37 race gun with optic for what 2 cases of 9mm FMJ sold for at auction. I'm enjoying the heck out of it! Also have a few 45ACP S&W revolvers that use moon clips that love it. And this is premium Gold Dot ammo. Win-Win!
A real pity .45 gap never took off. I do like the concept of one Glock frame/grip, specifically the g19 size, which can shoot 9 mm, .40, .357 and .45 and share the same accessories
Not a bad idea. I like the concept. However, if I'm picking a caliber to regain popularity. 10mm is on a strong rebound thankfully. My pick would have to be 357sig.
I looked into both the G32 and G38, just to get something new and weird. Chose the G32 and I love it, but this 38 still floats around my brain lol. I'll get one eventually
As far as I know the grip frame is the same as G19/23. Only the slide is wider. Also a few police departments took the 45 GAP as duty caliber. Some of them still use it. So at least a little bigger success than 30 Super Carry. The 45 GAP is loaded to beequal to 45 ACP +p. So now wounder its a bit more snappy.
The slide release isn’t because it’s a gen 3. It’s the slightly wider slide, so they install the extended release on only the .45 gaps from the factory. Every other gen 3 has the flat low pro release.
I bought two of these at the same time, added some Talon grip tapes to both of them, ammo has been easy to find for this round!! FMJ and Defense rounds!!
It’s a shame this never took off, I’ve almost bought one a couple times but the cost of ammo and trying to find it just never looks fun. Plus if I’m going to carry it I like to shoot it a fair amount.
I would not buy this unless I also had the cash to buy several thousand rounds of ammo. Who knows if it will be available in the future? Yes, I am one of those people who keeps several thousand rounds of everything I shoot.
The hesitation or hang up is simply the barrel and slide "locking" up [they aren't technically locked, it just means they stay together]. The fact that they lock up tight (within tolerances) is a good thing. When the shot is fired, the slide and barrel stay locked together longer making for better accuracy. If you pull the slide to the rear and let go of it, that hesitation to lock up will never happen.
Only thing hurt this gun is low capacity if this was a 13 round and up this would be really popular GLOCK KNOWS THIS they held back on this for some reason maybe to help the sells of others 👌🏾🧠
I have a Glock 37 in .45 GAP. I really quite like it. I much prefer the smaller frame size as I do not have large hands (though I don't have a problem with the Glock 21SF, but I find the Glock 37 easier to shoot than the Glock 21SF). Sadly, shooting the .45 GAP really means that one had to reload for it if you want a reliable supply
Very interesting round. Because it is smaller but still more powerful than the 45apc I would have thought it would have been more popular. Thanks for the information.
It wasn't a solution looking for a problem. It was made for when the crime bill was in effect. This was about getting the biggest common sized bullets in a 10 round magazine AND doing so in a standard size Glock frame. Had the 10 round limit stayed in effect, these likely would have been more popular. But when the crime bill sunsetted in 2004, there was no longer a good reason to stay with a 10 round maximum. The market niche it was designed to fill became irrelevant. It isn't a bad round, but it just doesn't do anything other guns can do with more common calibers. The main advantage these had until this last panic was the availability of cheap ammunition and low cost for used guns. In every other panic, .45 GAP ammunition stayed available long after other calibers were sold out. This time around, that backfired, as nobody was making .45 GAP, and when the supplies on the shelves were gone, they were unlikely to be replaced.
I like the concept. There is another gun that feels better in the hand and is 45acp It is a PT-145 pro. If one popped up cheap I’ll grab one just because.
This ammo will return again . Government and law enforcement will change preferences all based on demand and economics. Money in contacts are the driving force
You just have to watch the auction sites like Gunbroker for ammunition. I just won 2,000 rounds, (1,000 Gold Dots and 1,000 FMJs) for $610. This comes to about . 30 cents a round and $15.25 per box. I really wish this round had done better! A G48 and a G43x in .45 GAP would be amazing!
I really love the concept of a Glock 38 but the cost and availability of ammo and low capacity keeps me away from it . I absolutely love the Glock 30 and 30S two of best 45 ACP out there.
The GAP .45 is an answer to a question nobody asked. The .45 ACP is slowly becoming obsolete in favor of .40 9mm and 10 mm. These days people who want power are buying 10 mm
never took off because ballistically 45acp is better. If you want more fps u just drop to 185gr-200gr +P 45 acp not to mention more options for ammo from practice to defense. Anyone complaining about grip isn't looking for a 45acp. Plus glock offers a glock30 and 36 which i carry.
The phenomenon of the Glock hesitating or being sluggish going into battery when one slowly hand-cycles it is something that the .45 GAPs seem to exhibit the most, while there is one caliber of Glocks that don't do it at all: the .357s. I had carried and used a Gen 4 31 for years when I got a Gen 4 37, and still today when I go from carrying the GAP for a while to the .357, it is as if that bottleneck round "flows" into the chamber. Also, ammo availability and cost is no big deal if you reload!
I tried one out but didn’t like the experience. I liked 10mm, .45acp, and .40, but I didn’t enjoy the recoil impulse and the tiny ( for me) G19 sized grip frame. I like a bigger grip to hold onto. Perhaps if it had a Gen 2 or Gen 5 grip frame without the finger grooves, maybe I could squeeze my hand onto it enough, but no thanks. Thanks for sharing, though.

Always neat to find them.

Charleston, SC Police Department was issued Glock .45 GAP and perhaps still is...

357 sig (Glock 32) thank me later

The great thing is that it is possible to order ammo directly from Underwood with the Extreme Defender being "Cat's Meow" for personal defense.

That’s what I did and I love this pistol and caliber!

Can't believe more ppl didn't this cal. I dig it just hard find ammo & target ammo.
GLOCK 37 45gap is the pistol Florida Highway Patrol carry.

Where too find ammunition for it?
If you enjoy reloading and saving money, reload. The G38 is my winter carry gun. Love shooting it.
Happy new year!
Do they come with the extended slide release like that from the box??
Very interesting round. Because it is smaller but still more powerful than the 45apc I would have thought it would have been more popular. Thanks for the information.
Same size as my Gen 5 G23 .40 cal..

I’ve had a G37 and G38 since they came out and I shoot better with the G38 than any other gun I own including other Glocks, Sig, Kimber, and HK’s.

10 mm is mine too.
You think they’ll make a gen 5 in 10?
eventually
They have

Thanks HS. Great job. Good info. God bless.
LETS GO BRANDON
Good stuff

I have a model 39, I have a source for the 37 and 38. Try it, you'll like it.
The 450 Marlin never took off, soon after buying realized I should have just bought a modern made 45-70. Peace
45 acp fanboys doomed this caliber from the start. Old dogs stuck in their ways. Too bad, I think this was actually a cool caliber.
Can you run a gen4 37 slide on a gen4 17 frame?

Could you put a 38 slide on gen 4 frame ?
I have a 38 along with a 23.
.45 GAP would have done better if they had made a .45 width frame and 9mm length. Ten rounds in a full size? Oof.
@iPac9mm It probably will
Hey man I’m late to the game can I make a special request for a shield plus vs m&p 2.0 compact
We do have a comparison to the M&P subcompact since they are roughly the same size/category.
That’s one thing Glock is not. Unusual
I want this frame in .45 acp

the glock no one knew about smh
You need just one 45 acp in your arsenal.
One in each platform, pistol, revolver, and carbine. Maybe 2 of each. Merry Christmas
✌👍👏
GAP was a fail.
I see no point in the 45GAP cartridge. I never buy a weapon in an odd ball caliber. The 45 ACP works just fine.
I see no point in 45 acp. Low capacity in oversize guns.
