- www.vladtv.com - N.W.A. founding member Arabian Prince chopped it up with DJ Vlad to discuss the biopic "Straight Outta Compton" and share his views on certain character portrayals. Like others who viewed the film, Prince doesn't understand why some people were cut out entirely - including him. "Somebody was very pivotal in the success and the sound of N.W.A. It was Donovan Smith, our engineer...he's nowhere to be seen. He was always there hanging out with us," Arabian Prince tells us. "So that and just like, 50% of the scenes - in real life - I was there."
After explaining why MC Ren should have been depicted "a lot better," Arabian Prince hits DJ Vlad with the reality that "star power matters" before delving into how the members of N.W.A. acted off the mic. "Like I told somebody [else], I gangbanged for two days, and when I saw somebody get beat down I was done. I'm playing football," he recalls with a laugh. Not trying to downplay anyone's street cred, Prince claims Eazy-E was the only one he really saw "do some stuff," however MC Ren is up in the ranks as well "a little bit 'cause he lived in the neighborhood." "...Maybe you might not have a personal experience, but around you is that story," Prince explains.

I know many people said it before but it's really fucked up how they portrayed Eazy all miserable after N.W.A., doing nothing but smoking weed, downgrading houses and shit. Of course they showed Dre doing The Chronic and Cube writing Friday but they didn't show Eazy working with Bone Thugs which were more successful than N.W.A. themselves. Also the scene when Eazy and Cube meet in NY and Cube is sitting like a don with bodyguards mean muggin Eazy and making Eazy seem like a needy, weak ass muthafucka when Layzie Bone depicted the situation vividly in his interviews and it seems it was nothing like that. Obviously I wasn't there so I can't say but as a childhood N.W.A. fan I felt like the movie was a subliminal diss towards Eazy.

Exactly, I’m only 20, but I grew up with 6 boys, I been listening to old school. When that movie came out, kids come out of everywhere blasting “Straight Outta’ Compton”, the damn title of the movie as their theme song. It was so annoying, I couldn’t wait until it died down. Lmao. However, our youth wasn’t aware of such history, so I’m glad they caught on. Well, majority.

People always mention Tupac and how he was doing Hail Mary too early in the movie, but that wasn't the major discrepancy -- they forget to mention that Tupac wasn't even on Death Row at the time -- in the movie, he was on Death Row while Eazy-E was in the hospital and before he died. In real life, Tupac was in jail when Eazy-E died, and he didn't sign to Death Row until September 1995 while still in jail -- 6 months after Eazy-E died. And he started recording for Death Row in October 1995.

Now that I think about it, the movie had it right. They didn't show pac in the studio until AFTER EAZY DIED. They just fastforwarded to that timeline of Dre leaving deathrow. They had the timeline right. They showed eazy died and then showed dre at deathrow and then pac. They just fast-forwarded.

Ice cube was a social commentator about his neighborhood and surroundings cities. He stated that meaning of times in interviews. He's a great story teller and writer about life in South Central LA, Compton, Watts, etc. In my opinion, Ice cube is one of the greatest lyricist from the Golden era. All of his lyrics are brutality honesty and are observations about Hood USA life. Most that grew up in So CAL hood in the 80's related and gravitated to Ice Cube reality raps and people around the world got insight on African-American and Latino-American culture and oppressions. He is a true artist and to me a real gangsta by navigating the hood and music industry and making it out alive and successful. Growing up in the 80's/90's in Compton was rough whether you gang banged or not (sometimes it was worse on a kid to not to be affiliated). I wholeheartedly concur with Arabian Prince and respect his legacy. He should've been in the movie. Big ups to him! Compton Finest!

As much as I loved the film, I think they need to all collaborate and put out a mini documentary series that gives Arabian Prince, The D.O.C. and the rest of the early Ruthless Records people their fair due.

I wish they made a miniseries of the history of NWA that focused more on the people who didn't become super stars like Eazy, Dre, and Cube. Even in the Straight Outta Compton film, after Dre started Death Row, I was surprised how little Warren G and Snoop Doggy Dogg were showcased even though they were responsible for a lot of the early success of Death Row Records. Without Warren G, Snoop might have never gotten a chance at a record deal, plus he was instrumental in giving Dre old soul and funk records to sample from. I get that a lot of stuff had to be trimmed down to make a 2 hour film, but it would be great to have a more in depth story of NWA and the history of each member after the group splintered apart.

As a "Compton" native, I loved the movie, because it brought back so many memories! Especially the scene when NWA performed at "Skateland" I remember hanging out there, as a teenager and seeing EPMD perform there before anyone even knew who they were (especially) anyone from Compton! I did here many people say there were discrepancies, when it comes to the group. Although, I am much younger than Dre, and Eazy, I am more Cube's age, but one thing that I know to be for sure, is that "Arabian Prince" was definitely one of the original members. If you look at the cover of the NWA "Straight Outta Compton" album; there's 6 members: Eazy, Dre, Cube, Ren, Yella, and Arabian Prince. I remember girls loved "Arabian Prince" because he sort of looked like the gangsta version of Prince (I believe he is half Arab) it is also true what he said about Eazy, everybody from Compton know his rep' and he was always very talented, smart, and a real one!

It was great movie cinematically but it was OBVIOUS that Ice Cube & Dre slanted reality to make themselves look GREAT while ignoring ALL of the mistakes they made personally in their early careers concerning contracts & the decisions they made! (e.g. Dr. Dre TOTALLY left out the fact that he set-up Eazy-E to get threatened by Suge which ULTIMATELY lead to Dre losing EVERYTHING he did at Death Row!!!)

Dre left out the fact that his FIRST THREE contracts he signed left him BROKE & trying to DESPERATELY get out of those deals. To this day, Dr. Dre has NEVER owned his own company, been the BOSS of his own company or made money from the sale of his company's or the IP associated with these labels or businesses successes'!
Well you know what, I just remembered that during that scene with the meeting with Suge, Dre, and Jimmy Iovine, Suge did mention about Dre having troubles with 'contracts', 'lawsuits' and stuff. I mean I know that ain't probably NOTHING, it's kinda SOMETHING. I think overall it's a lot of scenes that did get cut out cuz it was certain stuff they said in a couple of scenes that made believe like that scene must've been cut out.

Another discrepancy, Eazy E never came on stage at the Detroit show. Their show got shut down before his entrance. He was supposed to come out later after NWA did some without him. It was to set up the crowd to start yelling out "We Want Eazy!" We never saw Eazy that night. FACTS

Mid West Fam lets go back in history! When Notorious came out, it had IDENTICAL buzz! Everyone was saying how perfect the actors were. Dude who played Puff; I remember everyone saying how perfect he was, he was giving Biggie speeches, and had Puff's personality! The movie looked sharp and fresh. It def wasnt no damn Lifetime movie! NWA movie was the same imo, and is talked about the same way! I thought Eazy was the only one that didnt do good. He aint look like eazy, talk like eazy. Dre and Cube was on point. Cube was perfect, but even he had some scenes where he kinda fell off. All in all, the Notorious movie was executed a little better. The NWA movie was clean af, but we have to remember these are baby actors who havent been in the game that much. But as time goes on, everyone will lie like this movie was trash! Both movies are just about equally great, but the Biggie movie had more professional veteran actors than the NWA movie!

I just realized after all these years that Arabian Prince was only involved on the songs that were totally away from the gangsta vibe. Makes me wonder how NWA would've been like had he never left. Even Ice Cube said in a few interviews he hated the two songs this guy was on. Don't get me wrong, Arabian Prince seems like a great guy I was just thinking about that like how much sound wise they needed him.

Never not one interview did he say he was thugging or gang banger. He always made it clear he was speaking for those who get misrepresented in society. He could have easily started complaining about not getting his fair share of recognition and screen time in the movie. AP responded straight forward and truthfully. He comes across as a mature adult with out a trace of conceit or jealousy. It shows he isn't carrying any petty resentment or animosity. Seems like he's moved on with his life and isn't stuck reliving the past - desperately trying to capture any fame attached with NWA. Good for him!

When they first came out Before NWA!! Arabian princess tracks raw my favorites!! I was very disappointed they left you out of the movie. . .. :(

im really feelin on what prince and vlad had to say about ren. that dude is so damn underrated. kizz my black azz and (especially) shock of the hour are straight classics. i loved the nwa movie but there was so much stuff that got on my nerves, especially cutting down both ren and yellas parts. each member was equally important, there was no one bigger than the other
I feel like Arabian Prince should have been in the movie with a small part just to school the young kids on the group His introduction in the movie could have been when Dre was scratching and mixing at jinx moms he could have been sitting next to Jinx and they could have made his character leave the group after the studio sessions in Torrance It would have played good to say he left the group because of the contracts not being right and Ice Cube was peeping it
