    Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
    Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
    The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
    Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
    Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

    Let me tell the other part's of the ststory I promoted the original version of 12 inch on Dream Team records in went to do my follow up on how the different records I was promoting was doing at the clubs I had dropped them off at. A teen club on La Cienega Avenue near the Beverly Center one of the promoters was Jason Winborn . So I was in there just chillin and the dj put on Super Sonic but I was pushing another hoe in the young kids and that club Rush the dance floor and lost their mind I called Rudy that night and told him we need to flip the single put Super Sonic on the a-side that's the single really and that's what happened

    Say what you like but Heller took Ruthless and NWA to the next level. Arabian Prince makes it sound as if he enjoyed selling records from his car trunk more than doing it the way everybody else was doing it. It's normal that people who make you sell 3 x more records take a cut. I always liked Arabian Prince but his reasoning sounds pretty dumb here. PLus, he walked away from the hottest rap band on the planet right when they were blowing up, also not the brightest move ever....

    • @l.c.1704
      @l.c.1704 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Did you not hear him say they had to ASK for their mo ey? And then Ice Cube left for the same reason! They didn't get alot of money under Jerry Heller. They got FAME! So FAME is great but without the money what's the point. Too many artist had FAME but not the money! New Edition is a great example of that!

    • @THE_BEAR_JEW
      @THE_BEAR_JEW 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bro, it's almost like you're not listening.
      The man brought a massive hit to Ruthless to build the damn label and allow NWA to exist in the first place. Then Heller shows up and not only doesn't pay him, but he also starts withholding payment from other guys.
      The "box of records" thing Arabian Prince mentioned seemed more to illustrate the fact that things were fair without Heller involved. When Heller became involved, things were not equal anymore.
      Lets be honest, Heller didn't make NWA. NWA was gonna blow up regardless. Just look at the sheer amount of talent in that group and the subject matter. They didn't need Heller. I don't think Heller is a movie villain or anything, but I do think he saw that they were all young and he definitely tried to take advantage of them.
