Arabian Prince: Eazy-E's Wife Stopped Sending My Royalty Checks

  • www.vladtv.com - Arabian Prince was the first member to leave NWA, and the California native admits that it all boiled down to him not getting fairly compensated and Ruthless allegedly doing bad business. The Compton-born emcee told VladTV that he could never get a straight answer about getting paid when he was first starting out with NWA, and he decided to part ways after becoming frustrated with the situation.
Arabian Prince also pointed out that the family dynamic of the group was broken down after Jerry Heller came into the picture, and he said that NWA was supposed to originally be owned by all the members equally. During the conversation Arabian Prince also pointed out more ways he was allegedly wronged by Ruthless, including someone at the label forging his name on documents to JJ Fad's "Supersonic," which he brought to the label. He added that it wasn't until he had difficulty cashing in off the royalties to Fergie's "Fergalicious," which sampled the 1988 hit, that he realized his name had been forged.
Check out more of what Arabian Prince had to say about his time at Ruthless in the above clip.

The Arabian Prince was the first forgotten-original member to leave NWA in 1988 due to not getting paid properly. He was the sixth member of NWA. He was never mentioned in the Straight outta Compton biopic, which is a rotten shame. He does game animation now, but he is still a legend. Great music educational video.

He was shown in the studio in the movie and they mentioned him by name. The guy they left out of the movie was Donovan Smith who owned the studio, mixed their music, and taught Dr Dre how to engineer.

'Trust' is a bad way to do business; everything s/b in writing, and set up by your legal representation to prevent this stuff. Artists have to defer to contracts, legality, etc . But your lawyer has to be straight with you, working only for you, and a smart cookie.

Makes me think man if you a young dude from the streets all the sudden got a money faucet hooked up at your crib. everybody wants a glass of water. sometimes being a creative person can be messed up in that everybody else but the creative person gets paid. most artists, no, those artists who are lucky wake up to the fact that making art (music, fashion, visual, etc) is a business. what you make is your product. unfortunately most do not know that they are just happy to be singing, for instance, wearing the fancy fashion/designers duds and what not. especially, getting the girls.
but, like this dude, if you ask questions because you know what time it is you become the enemy and are shunned. soon as you start asking question those in the know are like, we have to get rid of him/her. others are just happy to be on stage or on the tour bus.
