As far as I can tell this is how it works in DS1 and DS2, but DS3 works differently - which is why Dancer can sometimes grab a whole coop team at the same time.
I couldn't find a video, but yes that's what should happen. In DS3 it works differently and you can find plenty of videos of Dancer grabbing the host and summon at the same time, but I've never seen a video of that happening in DS1 or DS2.
Grabs can also fail to complete if there's not enough room (presumably for the animation) This is probably easiest to replicate against covetous demon, by staying in the little doorway cubby where you enter from the fog wall. If you back up as much as possible, right up against the fog wall, the grab shouldn't connect This can also happen with other bosses when you're backed up against walls or something similar. Rotten's grab can fail to connect next to a wall if there's a rock outcropping overhead in a specific spot, and i think Aava's grab fails next to a wall too
@@Domo3000 I usually do too, I didn't find out until my overencumbered run where it wasn't always viable to dodge attacks Ironically, covetous demon's grab is effectively a one shot kill on an overencumbered run because it takes so long to put everything back on before you can do anything again, so I had to find a way to avoid that lol
Just for clarification, how does the AI "focus" on a player? I thought focusing and locking on should be the same but they clearly aren't since the AI can turn away from the player whilst being focused on that player. Is this another way of targeting a player or did they replace the traditional lock-on with the version shown in the video for bosses?
Yes, but not always. They can lose the lock-on similar to how you can lose it, like if Lost Sinner jumps behind you or enemies get too far away. They just constantly try to set it back on again. For the mimic grab you could sneak up on them from behind to get them to do the attack without them having lock-on enabled yet. For the Gaping Dragon he usually does it as his first attack, but I ran in too fast and he does the animation at the beginning and only afterwards sets lock-on, but at that point I've already been on his side and he could not lock on.
I couldn't get it to work with alonne's grab but pursuer's grab won't work if your back is against a wall and he's also close to the wall. Same goes for covetous demon and most other grabs.
But... how does that work for solo playing? Because sometimes when I strafe left in the Pursuer's grab (and 50% of the time I manage to avoid it), he just staggers me. On what or who is he locking on to?!
I will show them once I tackle the Asmongold video where he makes fun of someone that likes DS2. At one point Asmongold shows the player being directly inside of the hand and then complains about broken hitboxes, because he's apparently blind.
@@Domo3000You should make a separate, short video showcasing the hitboxes anyhow. It's more convenient to show people a short video than to give them a time-point in a longer video because people are lazy.
Dark Souls games are on a heavy discount right now. With Dark Souls 2, is it pointless to buy the vanilla + SOTFS versions? The vanilla version gets overwritten, is that correct? I'm wishing I could try both on the same account/pc.
@@HandleIsNewAndBad Only for the 360 and PS3 versions, but said "upgrade" is just all three DLC bundled together and doesn't update the enemy or item placements. Double grabs happen in Elden Ring as well.
So for example, if the pursuer does the grab attack on a coop alley and it accidentally hits you instead you get staggered and not grabbed?

That's interesting. I always try to fight in the middle of the room so I never noticed that.

I request a ds1 iron golem grab attack compilation to change your mind about your favorite grab attack

Amazing trick ! Well done !😊
Still didn't understand 😅 isn't the bosses locked on to you by default?

And at this moment you realized - you just ordinary NPC hollow. He was focusing on main character entering the arena behind you.
Interesting
Yo make a video about duble clicking and greatsword aim on ds 2
This explains why ds3 and elden ring life steal often only staggers with some damage and no grab?
Oh, how about the Demon of Song attacks?
Are those hitboxes any outrageous?

How did u control the bosses? Debug or is it a mod?

What are you talking about? They're completely separate titles on Steam, you can own both at the same time.
Isn't there a purchase that upgrades the Vanilla version to SOTFS?
