Does the Fume Knight's GLOWING sword actually do anything?

  • Raime's got a real cool looking buff, but is it all that it's CRACKED up to be? ᵖˡᵉᵃˢᵉ ᶜˡᵃᵖ
    Timecodes for time travellers-
    0:00- Raime, the fume knight
    0:41- Boss gimmicks
    2:10- The known buff trick
    2:53- Is the CRACK a buff?
    5:03- top secret debuff visual
    Bonus data-
    Trimmed out a few things. The glow buff refreshes and stacks properly. So you could have it always active, preventing phase 2. Also if you play VERY close to Raime and don't heal, you can fight him without him ever using a vertical smash in phase 1. You don't need to use the wedges, but unless he stays right in the middle of the boss room it's gonna be near impossible to win.

    The lack of any meaningful change and unique debuff visuals makes me think things got changed in development. In the concept art the sword is just blank. When trying to beat him on hardest difficulty, I honestly preferred to use the helm. Basically all of his attacks one-shots you anyway and to me his second phase is easier in terms of dodging everything.
      Main culprit being his smaller sword moveset during phase 1.

    • @shinysnivy6604
      @shinysnivy6604 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I've done the fight way too many times for my own good on ng+7 and I've always found phase 1 to not be worth skipping over since it's way easier to dodge and gives you that part of his health bar for free so that you spend less time in phase 2.
      Also he is way slower in phase 1. Phase 2 is sometimes too fast to safely be able to hit him with a slower weapon without him also hitting you, which is a death sentence on max ng.

    My guess is Nadalia who "haunts his sword" temporarily draw out more power by making contact with the Ash. Right after it makes contact a cloud of black smoke briefly forms like when Fume Knight appears at the start of the fight. So any time his Fume Ultra Greatsword vertical slams into the ground it gets a temporary buff from rubbing against it. Then when he plunges the FUGS straight into the ground, he draws out much more power from the Ash to expel the fire balls in all directions.

    Think you could do a video on how durability/corrosion is technically a status effect in ds2 when applied to enemies? As in:
    You can't break the equipment of enemies in ds2 with urns/acid surge but instead you can apply a debuff that stacks and lasts 60 seconds per stack.
    -This debuff is manifested by a sound + some crumbling particle effects.
    -This debuff multiplies outgoing damage by 0.95 and incoming damage by 1.05 per stack.
    -Reapplying the debuff does not update the timer, but adds a separate timer for each reapplied debuff.
    -This does imply that each enemy has a proper "corrosion resistance" and after some mining we found out that it's value is shared with their curse resistance.
    This is also the reason why most bosses (not all though) are immune to this effect
    if you were able to like throw 500 urns per second you could kill most bosses in a couple of punches, and I think that's pretty cool.

    There are a lot of theories on why raime instantly goes to phase 2 while wearing velstadt's helm like
    Since velstadt beat raime's ass and exiled him, he was enraged upon seeing velstadt's gear because of their grudge
    But i like to believe he went phase 2 because he recognises the player as a strong opponent and goes all out since the player bested velstadt who was presumably stronger than raime.
    Ps it would have been really cool if you could summon velstadt and raime phantoms for the nashandra fight, with kings blessings as a requirement since it would be like the left and right hand warriors of the king following the new monarch for one last battle

    I beat fume knight just earlier today. I now remember why he had that dreaded 93% win rate.
    There is just something so beautifully perfect about his design. He’s not doing some crazy waterfowl 59 hit combo. He’s just a dude, with a big sword, who has like mostly three hit combos that are relatively easy to dodge.
    But he hits that sweet spot of being juuuust easy enough to read that you get overconfident, and his combos leave you with only juuuust enough stamina to get one attack in, but it feels like you could get two. Greed kills in this fight more than just about every other.

    • @ricardomiles2957
      @ricardomiles2957 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      exactly, phase 1 was a breeze so when he got to phase 2 he destroyed me and in subsequent tries my focus was on timing and placing my dodges well enough so i could hit and run with enough time to my stamina to refill. It was basically a sekiro boss to me

    I had more problems against the other boss. I do not remember the name, but it was the knight clad in an oriental armour that wielded a two-handed long-handled katana.
    I never got him to commit seppuku.

    • @DracoSafarius
      @DracoSafarius ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely found Alonne far harder than Fume Knight. Fume Knight's only real issue I ever had is his hitboxes being far larger than his actual weapons, move-wise he's extremely easy though

    Raime is quickly becoming one of my favorite bosses in the series. I love his aesthetic and he's fun to fight.
    It's funny, back in the mid 2010s I couldn't beat him without cheesing with hexes. Now I can beat him with melee easily. I realized three things: use a quick weapon, put points into adaptability, and don't get greedy.

    3:44 It seems to be a flat +78 fire damage, +64 with ring

    I remember I couldn't beat him for days, DkS2 SotFS was my very first Soulsborne game, and back in 2015 I couldn't even get past his first phase. Then I read that wearing Velstadt's helm would trigger phase 2 instantly, and I put it on. That day I learned that I was able to finally beat him after just a few tries. Turns out, his phase 2 was much easier to me.

    • @ricardomiles2957
      @ricardomiles2957 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      huh that's funny because for me it was the opposite, phase 1 was a breeze to me, even expected to be a chill boss in my first try, as soon he gets to phase 2 he completely destroyed me. To the point i was trying to stack buffs to try to win bwfore he entered phase 2 somehow.... wish i knew about the phase lock strat early

  • @spencergage95
