    I wish they would’ve made the GX 550 with the engine that was either in the LX 570 or the Toyota Land Cruiser. I just wish the GX 550 would’ve had a naturally aspirated V8 or V6 engine. I don’t believe that a twin turbo is good for off-road that’s just my personal opinion.🇯🇵🤍❤️ Great video as always I will say this if the GX 550 does not remove the turbos I will wait till the last year it is manufactured I’m guessing it’s going to be 2029 because I buy about every six years I want a GX 550 that’s fully loaded like the GX 460 and 2023 finally got fully loaded it’s just better that way to me because all the bugs are taken out and for them being so conservative they always wait till the last year it’s manufactured to do that and I’ve been doing that since 1990 with the LS400…❤

    Turbos are consumables, there is no way around that. How many Turbos does it take to run the GX for 300K miles over 25 years? What is the cost of a replacement turbo, parts and labor, 3K-4K? Does the motor need to come out like the Tundra to maintain the two turbo's. I expect in 6-10 years the GX will start costing 'Audi money' to maintain. If I wanted a high strung overly complicated small performance motor with the associated maintenance I would buy an Audi. I don't see these selling as well as well as the 2nd gen did, not to the existing customer base.

The E-steering is great, for the manufacture it is much cheaper to produce than the hydro steering, but it's way better because it is new, right? The short wheelbase was an advantage in a parking lot or offroad but it is cheaper for the manufacture to build one platform for 6 or 7 vehicles, much CHEAPER, leads to big compromises like the longer wheelbase leading to a larger turning circle. for me, the 460 wins as far as size and the V8. I know everyone is going to say the 6 CYL twin turbo is the future but I have had Turbo vehicles and I don't like turbo lag, I don't like the heat turbos give off and the extra wear and tear on the engine. We will see, but I know the Tundra engine which is the same as far as I know is having issues. I picked up my 2023 460 a week ago and am impressed with it. I will wait for a couple of years, work out the bugs. My Lexus dealer told me the introduction of the 550 is delayed until September. IMO it is too big and has the new Toyota look like the RX. I think they wrote out Lexus on the rear end so you wouldn't mistake it for a Toyota

      I’m with you. 23 GX 460 bought in December. All the plumbing needed to lube and cool the turbos is the weak point compounded by the lack of access to repair any of it. I’m coming from F150 TT V6 where they have to disassemble the vehicle to work on it. Yeah that’s gonna turn out well from a dealer 😅. Eff that. Sure we have higher expectations for Toyota but I’ll wait. The tundra already had issues with waste gates. If I could afford two 23 GXs I’d buy two.

    • @rustbeltrobclassic2512

      Yamaha doesnt make toyota engines. They make the high flow head design on non-F engines. The G in the name of the high performance engine is the code for a yamaha head design. But the block, internals etc, are all toyota designs. The 5SFE is a 100% toyota design, but the 4AGE is a toyota block, toyota internals, and the high flow yamaha head design.
      the breakdown in the code:
      4 = generation
      A = engine code (series)
      G = high flow yamaha head
      E = electronic fuel injection..
      things that are added to this..
      Z = supercharged
      T = Turbo charged..
      then there's one off's where the above doesnt count..
      like the 1ZZFE vs 2ZZGE vs 2ZZGZE vs 1ZZFED
      which is the 1ZZ is a generation and design name, generation but not supercharged.. F is fuel efficient, or small port non-yamaha designed head, E is still electronic fuel injection, D on an 1zzfed is the celica and mr2 spyder version, they have a forged crank and rods.
      The 2zzGe is the gts celica engine and 2nd gen of the zz platform with a G or yamaha head, the E is still electronic fuel injection but the trailing Z is the supercharged version found in the lotus.. Alternately you could get the 3MZFZE which was the 3rd gen MZ v6 with the F or non-yamaha head and the Z or supercharger (TRD) and the E or electronic fuel injection found in the TRD solara..
      But not all toyotas get a yamaha head, and the same block generation.. like a 3SFE vs 3SGE are not the same block, the F motor ack oil coolers, and have a different skirt design meaning you can't just slap a G head on an F engine, but everything built from the head down is a toyota design..

    I agree that the GX550 is an improvement on the GX460. Even more to your point, Toyota, via GX Chief Engineer, Koji Tsukasaki, claims the move to the longer wheelbase is also an improvement. They (Lexus) claim the new 112.2 in. is the Golden Ratio, meaning that it is the best wheelbase optimization for On-road and Off-road manners. Which rings more like production line optimization (streamlining) to me than an actual science. Why make two different wheelbases? Lexus has cut the costs, and this is good for their pockets.
    Yet, we adore the Prado (now dinosaur-ed) over the bulk of the LC200/LC300 for the very reason that it had a shorter wheelbase for better Off-road manners. If this science is granted, my question is, considering the merit of the wheelbase debate, how can Lexus (let alone its Chief Engineer) make the claim that the GX550 Overtrail(+), especially, is an improvement on the GX460 when in natural fact, the supposed rich, middle-aged, single guy/gal, who's being lured to dish out the (in)surmountable expense, and who's craving alone-time (away from his other "busy" friends at the office) away in the wilderness with a GX Overtrail (+) could care less about the On-road improved mannerisms of the longer wheelbase Off-roader? (I can make do with a Corolla for better On-road manners!)
    All that to ask: Why kill the the old Prado for this species of a bachelor/spinster, however rare or extinct? The engineer sounds more and more, the more I pay attention to him, like a telemarketer trying to sell me the extra benefit of On-road manners, which I don't need and never asked for, for an arm plus a leg, in a GX with the simple mystification of a Golden Ratio? Why are we trying to improve the On-road manners at a considerable cost for a vehicle that is heavily being advertised as an Off-road new elephant at the expense of the wheelbase that made the GX the proper legend Off-road? Your thoughts?

      Great points. I think "Golden Ratio" is manufacturing prattle for consolidation. I mean isn't that the whole point of TNGAF? Cram all the trucks and SUVs on 1 platform and change the colors and bells around a bit... they killed off some platforms and the little Landcruiser got the ax. FJ Cruiser smallness is looking very special now.... saw one today.. a small sight to behold in this new era of TNGAF-only Toyota trucks 😢

      @@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD "I mean isn't that the whole point of TNGAF?" Exactly! The Cookie-Cutter approach flies in the face of all Engineering & Design. SAMENESS is now being imposed willy-nilly on all these trucks. Yes, the FJ Cruiser, all of a sudden, is looking not only special, even more upscale than the LX600, which is looking more like a Lexified Honda Pilot than a Land Cruiser. The shame of it. The Prado/GX used to be a pony, and the LC200 was a horse. Now both are horses.
