@@MannMannMannMann I rarely get tired of Beat Saber. It is my upper-body exercise that I do for a couple hours every day. I have a full spinal fusion and it gets muscles I never knew I had, nerves too. If I would have had this right after my operation I would being doing a hell of a lot better. It's been about five or six years since my operation and I've only had Beat Saber for a little over a year I believe. Best thing I ever did was get the VR system. Also thanks to beat saber I have found new music that has been getting me through some shity days. Imagine Dragons and BTS. Their new mixtape is pretty awesome also. 👍😎 I'm 57 last Saturday.
You saved beat saber for me!!!! I'm currently being evaluated for a lung transplant from Duke University, and I've been on oxygen for 10 years, since I was 30. I've got severe bronchiectasis caused by a rare condition called PCD. It is similar to cystic fibrosis. I also have situs inversus. (My entire internal organ structure is mirrored to everyone else. Everything is on the opposite side.) 2 months ago I started using beat saber and it has changed my life! Starting out, I could barely finish a song without having to sit and gasp for air, now I play on hard every day for at least an hour! 🤯🤯🤯😁 About a week ago I started having severe issues from jostling my damaged lung around to much when I was playing on expert. It was SOOO fun! But my body won't let me. UNTIL I FOUND YOUR VIDEO TONIGHT! You have literally saved beat saber for me!!! I've been SOOOO BORED playing on hard!! Using your tips for less movement and controller grip (fingers) technique. I decided to try to use it tonight and I was able to play FIVE SONGS ON EXPERT without too much exertion! It was SOOO MUCH FUN! THANK YOU FOR SAVING BEAT SABER! I can get in the top 3-500 place on hard on a lot of songs but it's just not as fun playing only for score! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for this. I just got my first headset last week, and can now full combo hard mode, but fail miserably when going for expert. Didn't know practice mode existed and it could be a great help. The part about tracking also explains a lot of the times I miss a block when I was sure I hit it. No need to diss your dancing, that's what makes the game fun
I think you're absolutely right about the patterns. I played piano a little bit (definitely not gifted lol) and can read music a bit. I noticed right away in beat saber that oddly enough, the patterns made sense. I had figured that the slashing would go with the beat of the song, but was amazed how your brain can pick up the block patterns even on songs you've never played.
playing other rythm games helps too. I used to play a lot of osu (wasn't amazing at it or anything), and I noticed that I was quite a bit better than my friends who started at the same time as me
@@0bread286 yeah. i've played osu!mania and osu!taiko only since 4-5 months ago and im better than my friends, can play 2-3 star maps on mania so far, not dedicating my whole life to osu!mania tho lol
I’d also mention making sure you set the right IPD. Besides reducing eye strain, it’ll also help you have a better idea of how close/far the cubes are from you.
Omg. The point about forward tracking on the Oculus headsets! Didn't even think of that, but it would explain why I miss boxes almost every time I try to get sassy and catch a box to my side or behind my head. Thanks! Also would add, love the point about having fun! I'm just starting and find normal to hard is more fun, cuz it gives me more space to "dance like an idiot" too!
So it’s crazy because when I first started playing, I found it so difficult to complete the harder levels. One day, I realized I was just playing on “autopilot” and was hitting every single block - I decided to try a expert map using the same method and to my surprise, I did amazing! It’s so crazy, but it works! Your brain is amazing.
Great video! One tip I recommend is trying out custom saber mods, I thought they were really just to look cool. But they definitely improve my accuracy! Thinner sabers help me hit the blocks a lot easier and seem to help in faster sections
I love the don't think tip, because I have experienced the flow in another games so when I felt it on this game was so gratifying to see the blocks hit and being able to just enjoy the song
I can definitely tell the difference with the claw grip. I haven’t completed any expert + levels, but I’ve been working on them. Beat saber I’ve been trying to finish because my friend told me that practicing that helps you beat everything else.
One thing that I don't see mentioned in Beat Saber tips videos is something that I can see most experienced Beat Saber players, including Naysy here, do subconsciously. It's preserving energy through fluid movement. Basically, If you have a situation where you continuously need to move your arms (not wrists) up and down or left and right repeatedly don't use energy to stop your arm and make it move the other way, instead make it a rotation. Sort of like a U turn instead of reversing back in a straight line. The U turn does not need to be big. The point is to keep using the energy of your first swing to get into the next one thus increasing your endurance. (Jaroslav Beck - Escape (ft. Summer Haze) on Expert 50 second mark and many other marks almost forces you to do that with your right arm) For sight reading basics, usually (USUALLY) Beat Saber songs are made to be intuitive. If you swing with your left or right saber one direction then the next block will probably be in the opposite or close to opposite direction for that saber.
btw if you dont have a vr headset you should play this game called piano tiles 3 its so good for zoning out and not thinking and playing iv been playing that game alot and still i dont have a vr headset and im super good at timing my hits and my reaction time to hiting them and i just vibe to the music no thinking nothing just dont think
I find the “crab stance” to be very useful for harder songs but I also find that it hurts my arms a bit more. When I first tried play Ov Sacrament and Sincest I naturally went into the crab stance and within 30 seconds my arms were sore and tired. Also, mapping tip: Flow is very important when mapping. When mapping, make sure to check out the flow/parity section of the BSMG mapping wiki. You don’t want to have a down slice leading to another down slice because then the player’s arm will have to reset back up to hit the next note.
something she didn't mention (I think) is controller settings which definitely helps a lot if the grip u wanna use doesn't have a good swing angle or doesn't have the one you prefer. Changing controller settings can also reduce saber wobble (the wiggles in ur swing) which can help with accuracy and reducing bad cuts (when you hit a block in the wrong direction). Similar to grips it is something to mess around with and experiment. Also when switching grips or controller settings, give it some time, ur not gonna be used to it right away so give it a few days to try it out and get used to it. :)
Love your Beat Saber Video's! Found this to be a very well thought out and presented guide, always found your videos to be upbeat and enjoyable. And as always your hair is on point! 💜💜💜💜
I tend to swing my arms a lot and hit the blocks hard. So yeah I have tracking problems when one of the controllers ends up behind me. I have a ps4 so I usually grab the bottom of the move controllers. Both have gripped skins on them so I dont worry about one of them going through the TV. Practice mode is a god send and is really great for muscle memory. I love when you get in the zone your arms just know what to do after a while. I love the time whe you have no idea how you are hitting the blocks.
dancing around like an idiot is a huge reason why i love beat saber ! i only have 77 hours in it but i’ve played rhythm games my whole life and always push myself to get a full combo and work towards harder songs so it was something i picked up fairly quickly. i had never thought to hold my controllers a different way when i play but after watching this video i tried it and after 2 tries i full comboed an expert song that had been plaguing me for months ! your tips with lighting and covering windows were also major helps too, i always felt like my tracking was weird and that was definitely why. seriously thank you so much for this video i can’t wait to see how much better i can get now !!
I cant say enough about the "No Think". It truly is the #1 thing that helps because your reflex and action without mind is genuinely faster than you thinking. Thinking has a delay to send messages through your body to react in time, no thinking and potentially how your brain thinking (I trained mine to think as the notes are threats, so my body uses its shortcuts in reflexes to swing as fast as possible to react, whether I dodge, swing, or move)
Beat Saber made me start appreciating dancing (and I HATED it before x.x), but then I discovered Synth Riders and completely fell in love. I know Beat Saber is the more popular title, but I love Synth Riders' approach to dancing.
I really liked the tips, found some really good that I didn't realize existed, like the no fail option or making the lights static and taking off debris. I kind of knew they were there, but forgot from when they were mentioned on someone's video about the Original Quest all that time ago.
9:07 I personally find claw grip a lot more comfortable if you use 3 fingers in the ring instead of 2 for the Q2 controllers; they're a lot chomkier and the edge of the ring digs into my hand with 2 fingers.
I’m glad people like you exist. I’ve been struggling to upload (because there’s nothing for me to talk about) so I’m trying to get better at beatsaber on the quest 2 😃
Thanks for the tips. I have had some tracking issues. All this time been playing in front of a mirror, just due to room layout. Will try changing position!
Kind of cool to see you explaining how to get your tracking working better, as somebody who actually works in VR and so comes at it from a different pov. (I spent about 2 years working on code for a tracking system pretty similar to the original Oculus tracking) And oh yeah, grip and controller can make a big difference. When I got index controllers instead of my vive wands, my scores jumped from like 20k to 30k. Having everything more compact in my hand helped a ton.
@@torshy1043 I only got it this Christmas, so I just worked my way up to hard, but I have years of childhood experience with guitar hero/Rock Band. Lol
I've only got a couple hours total on this game, and can hold my own pretty well at Normal speed. I've dipped a toe into the Expert stuff a couple times and got steamrolled pretty quickly, but I'll get there. The speeds you're running at are absolutely insane. Your agility and reflexes are over the top. Wow.
i love the "dancing around like an idiot" part, that is what makes it fun to play (and makes your videos fun to watch). Also, the "not thinking" or getting in the flow was the hardest for me
LOL You might call it "dancing around like an idiot" I prefer to call it " entertaining the masses" And you do that with style... So kill them blocks dancing and having fun. Nic
I think this is a really good tips and tricks video. I feel the pain of inside out tracking having to keep your arms in front of the cameras and not putting them behind you, Learned that one real quick a while back lol. kinda makes it hard to get that full swing cause if u accidently move your arm in a certain way camera says bye bye and miss. Though i might try to do a little cover up thingy on the lights that my computer makes, might make a little difference in the tracking like u said^^
You are very talented. Thanks for the tips. I am new to the game but very competitive, especially with myself. I started for the exercise. I am 52 and the difference between the Oculus and PONG, which was my first video game, is like the difference between the Flintstones and the Jettsons.
3900# on score saber here and honestly the first one is a big key jumping into much harder songs for a bit and no matter how bad you do on them the songs that where just out of reach will feel a lot easier after you adjust to the faster songs
Just got the game for christmas! Really addictive! Put a lot of hours into it, and I've completed a few songs on expert mode already. Definitely makes me sore the next morning if I play for too long in one day though!
I always forget you're from Australia! I'm Aussie too, but every time I hear you speak it takes a second to adjust to your accent. Thanks for these tips, though. I got an Oculus a few days ago and I'm stuck between Hard and Expert. No fail and the different grips are a game changer!
"Dance around like an idiot" - hey, the dancing is what makes you unique and so fun to watch! Anyway, claw grip player here, that was the single most significant thing that immensely improved my game play. The other thing is "no-fail". Playing with that and not getting discouraged when missing half the blocks is really important. Eventually you reach a stage where you disable no-fail for a particular map and find out you can finish it. The feeling when that happens, when you finish a map for the first time, is just super amazing, an intense feeling of accomplishment.
OMG, I can't think you enough. I was getting so frustrated that I wasn't scoring very high despite not missing a single block. I was actually on the verge of giving up the game. Turns out just changing my grip made a HUGE difference.
so i just started the game and i played this one song called reality check something and i was having major tracking issues when the beat dropped. it was totally 100% tracking and not my lack of skill.
Love the channel, and turning off all the extra effects instantly made me go from the 4 BPS songs to the 5's. I can't believe how much of a difference it made, thank you!
Thank you for the tips. They are very helpful to me since I have been playing Beat Saber for a week now. Like you I am more interested in the dancing than the score.
Every time I play beatsaber I go into a "flow" state. And I just go with the rhythm, no matter what the song. My friends are always so impressed. Me and my other friend are really good at beatsaber, I think its because we both are musicians so we have good rhythm.

I am also having much more fun dancing around with it too! I really think dancing helps out.
I just got the game yesterday and I found that standing on my toes helps a lot cause I can see the upcoming boxes and I’m short. The wrist flicking really helps because I was trying to smack the blocks really hard like a drummer
This video really helped me! I'm doing better already! My grip with the Index was close to what they call the claw grip in the picture... But it never occured to me to put my index finger over the wrist strap like that, and it seems to really help.
Another tip that I use is this: (this may not work for everyone but it works for me) I figured out a while back that I was swinging my arms way too much. So if you try to keep the upper part of your arm glued to your body, and only moving your lower arm and wrists, it helps a lot. I used to think hard mode was super hard. Now I play expert+ :) have a great day
I really appreciate you making such awesome informative videos here. there is a girl I wont name on tiktok who was incredibly rude to me when I asked her a question and she gave me an attitude every time I tried to be friendly. So I really appreciate content like this!!
Another super super helpful hint that took me forever to understand when you’re playing in beat saber if you start up the game without a boundary then you will miss a ton of blocks or your controller won’t register at all what you have to do is create a boundary around you that’s very small start the game go back out of the game don’t quit it just go out of it and then turn off the guardian and it’ll play no problem but if you just turn it off or leave it on with too big of an area selected then it has a harder time registering your controls like she was saying

Everything is on the opposite side.)
2 months ago I started using beat saber and it has changed my life! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Your “dancing around like an idiot” is probably why some of us watch!

Extra tip: look at the blocks that are of distance so that you will know which saber to use and this is very helpful in “no arrows” and hard levels
I know your comment is a year old but how would I change my ipd?
@@micky2009 If you're using the Quest 2, you can move the right lens to 3 different positions to adjust it.
Thanks for your pointers. I just got the Oculus 2 for my 50th birthday a few weeks ago; I am hooked!!!! Beat Saber is very addictive and I love it!!!
How's it coming?
I remember Bandoot recommending that to get better but it sucks that quest and quest 2 users can't get the custom sabers

I was seven minutes in before I noticed the excellent Boo attire, so subbing for that alone.
Brilliant video too, definitely a big help, thankyou!

Turn around?
Summer Haze) on Expert 50 second mark and many other marks almost forces you to do that with your right arm)
For sight reading basics, usually (USUALLY) Beat Saber songs are made to be intuitive. If you swing with your left or right saber one direction then the next block will probably be in the opposite or close to opposite direction for that saber.
The "Don't think" tip, this is something I have come across too and overthinking it caused me to miss blocks. Excellent tip
btw if you dont have a vr headset you should play this game called piano tiles 3 its so good for zoning out and not thinking and playing iv been playing that game alot and still i dont have a vr headset and im super good at timing my hits and my reaction time to hiting them and i just vibe to the music no thinking nothing just dont think
For me I find myself in that spot where expert is (usually) too easy but expert+ has my brain melting
That's the steepest jump between levels.
same
something she didn't mention (I think) is controller settings which definitely helps a lot if the grip u wanna use doesn't have a good swing angle or doesn't have the one you prefer.
:)
“I highly recommend” count: 107 😂
I didn't even realise it was being said so much till I saw this comment. Now I'm hearing them all😂
Hey man, I like how you're dancing throughout all the charts! You have such a good flow while playing, and you make it look so easy :P

“Don’t think” is key. Intrusive thoughts break flow and then it’s blah
The first one saved my life THANK YOU I never knew about that setting because I’m so new
Really good video Naysy, hopefully can see more better players from this :D
I need to make more Synth Riders videos
(I spent about 2 years working on code for a tracking system pretty similar to the original Oculus tracking)
And oh yeah, grip and controller can make a big difference. When I got index controllers instead of my vive wands, my scores jumped from like 20k to 30k. Having everything more compact in my hand helped a ton.
Me: *complains about tracking
My room: a computer, 2 windows, phone and iPad in for the of me, 2 tv’s
Also me: ahh I see
It’s like Tetris Effect to me; rhythm games are best when you’re feeling the rhythm, not thinking. Thinking is distracting, feeling is focus.
I have to do this silly plant stance to get any accuracy, and just headtilt, flail and squat gracelessly. I wish I could 'dance like an idiot'! XD
I enjoy goofy dancing when I'm playing. Just got a quest over the holidays and its a blast!
pog what level are you on?
@@torshy1043 I only got it this Christmas, so I just worked my way up to hard, but I have years of childhood experience with guitar hero/Rock Band. Lol

I've only got a couple hours total on this game, and can hold my own pretty well at Normal speed. I've dipped a toe into the Expert stuff a couple times and got steamrolled pretty quickly, but I'll get there. The speeds you're running at are absolutely insane. Your agility and reflexes are over the top. Wow.
I just got my oculus quest 2 today and this rly helped with beat saber thx
i love the "dancing around like an idiot" part, that is what makes it fun to play (and makes your videos fun to watch).
Also, the "not thinking" or getting in the flow was the hardest for me
my biggest tipp is mod beatsaber! the game runs and track much better especially on ultra fast songs
I've played the campaign and multiple custom songs and managed to get better when I just got the game. Great video and tips.
LOL You might call it "dancing around like an idiot" I prefer to call it " entertaining the masses" And you do that with style... So kill them blocks dancing and having fun. Nic
me, not even owning a vr headset beyond the nintendo labo: "hmm yes i must do this hmm"
3900# on score saber here and honestly the first one is a big key jumping into much harder songs for a bit and no matter how bad you do on them the songs that where just out of reach will feel a lot easier after you adjust to the faster songs
yeah when i started 5 days ago expert was way too fast now i can do it in my sleep
I've played Beat Saber for about 50 hours now and I've been struggling a bit on Expert+. Your tips on grip were especially helpful for me
Just got the game for christmas!
Super helpful, thank you
I must say, your beat saber game play is truly inspirational
so i just started the game and i played this one song called reality check something and i was having major tracking issues when the beat dropped. it was totally 100% tracking and not my lack of skill.
Sorry to hear that I think you should move on to another song ASAP
Love the channel, and turning off all the extra effects instantly made me go from the 4 BPS songs to the 5's. I can't believe how much of a difference it made, thank you!
12:45 I end up doing this sometimes and I call it pilot mode.
Thank you for the tips. They are very helpful to me since I have been playing Beat Saber for a week now. Like you I am more interested in the dancing than the score.
You’re very motivating! Thank you!
Your videos helped me get the most out of Beatsaber. This is a tremendous help as well. Thank you.

Every time I play beatsaber I go into a "flow" state. And I just go with the rhythm, no matter what the song. My friends are always so impressed. Me and my other friend are really good at beatsaber, I think its because we both are musicians so we have good rhythm.
Thank you so much I have a TH-cam channel and I want to do expert plus again thanks :)

You are Amazing! Really helpful advice. I was pretty much done with Beat Saber because I was unable to advance past Expert difficulty, but after following some of theses steps I can tell I am getting better for sure and I am able to complete some Expert + songs now. I am also having much more fun dancing around with it too! I really think dancing helps out.
Thanks for the tips I will follow them and I love this video❤
I just got the game yesterday and I found that standing on my toes helps a lot cause I can see the upcoming boxes and I’m short. The wrist flicking really helps because I was trying to smack the blocks really hard like a drummer
Don't think.

Make sure you slice at 180⁰ and finish at 60⁰ whip out the protractor if needed
'No Fail' is a must IMHO when learning new rhythm games. Thanks for these tips!!
This video really helped me! I'm doing better already! My grip with the Index was close to what they call the claw grip in the picture... But it never occured to me to put my index finger over the wrist strap like that, and it seems to really help.
Finally got this thing yesterday. Need to get the other half of the hard songs I can’t pass, passed. This video’s perfect.
