the challenge yourself one is definitely the most important for me. i was stuck on the expert mode version of a level for a good three days so i decided to practice the expert plus mode for a few hours. and after getting about 1/4 of the way through the expert plus i went back to the expert mode and to my surprise i beat it in 2 tries. i always have been trying to do a few stupidly hard songs just so my brain can rev up and feel those fast nots a bit.
3:01 Turning on No Fail was the one thing that helped me most. I was stuck on an expert song, failing about a third of the way in, so I decided to turn on No Fail and just have fun, not caring how many blocks I hit. To my surprise at the end I had 9 out of 10 good cuts (still would have failed in normal mode as many were in sequence). Every time after that I reduced my number of bad cuts on no fail mode by around 5 each time. The next day I could turn off no fail mode and a couple of days later I did a Full Combo! Now it's still less than a week and I'm disappointed if I DON'T get a Full Combo! So No Fail mode was the key, although I still prefer to keep the speed at 100% because it helps your timing.
another trick that helped me is : no fail mode and only hitting one color. I found that practicing the right hand and left hand separately made it easier to learn some counter-intuitive mappings
I just got my oculus on Christmas and I’m already playing songs on hard and expert! I honestly love beat saber and I can’t wait to incorporate these tips next time I play! Hopefully I’ll be at Expert + by next week!
you want a good tip? Learn to not tense up and use less energy for fast levels and don't swing hard as hell like a bulldozer as its not hardness, its angle that is calculated. JK LALALA,L
bonus tips turn off debris turn off note spawn effect turn on static lights and if your reaction times are lacking turn note spawn offset to close or closer so when you go back to default or stay the same you will notice i big difference in reaction time im currently at close for note spawn offset its best for me because right when the note spawns i can swing and it will hit also if the blocks are spawning to high then go in player settings and for the height dont stand strait or stand lower and click the meter stick then the blocks will spawn lower and if they spawn to low then stand as strait as you can or stand on something (MAKE SURE ITS STABLE AND YOU WONT FALL) then click the meter stick and if you play beat saber with other people on the same headset or your fine with the note spawn height then put it on automatic measurement or whatever its called well those are some bonus tips from me.
I'm a non-gamer who is into hobbies such as software development and fountain pens/handwriting, I'm also overweight. So I'm pretty much the last person who would get into VR. I just got a Quest 2 and beat saber. I've never been able to get into most games, but this seems to be the one. I failed on easy when I got the headset and game last week. But thanks in part to your video, I've managed to pass a hard stage. I was absolutely thrilled when I passed. It just feels so good, not only to play, but also my body is thanking me for actually working up a sweat for once. Thank you for the tips, they've been very helpful.
I'm not at expert+ yet and still struggling with expert but when I warm up I play songs I know on a easier mode like normal and turn the speed to 200%. That brings you into a speed rush when you try to actually hit every block and makes it seem slow when you play a harder mode on normal speed so you actually have more time to think as your brain still is used to the high speed
This is what I've been doing with Ghost on hard. I have been struggling to beat it on Expert even though I can beat most other songs (most other NON-camellia songs lol) on Expert or Expert+ but I just can't quite get through Ghost on Expert. But I know it on hard so well that when I turned the speed up on hard I could see a notable progression on my Expert run of the song.

I can do expert songs but i mostly play on hard. I'm 41 years old and have a bad back and playing beatsaber really helps loosen me up. My personal goal are getting SS on hard on as many maps as i can. I will start trying some of the songs i find too easy on expert soon though.
Another 40 year old here! Can’t see myself every getting to Expert+ (maybe Expert on a couple of tracks) but I’m also aiming for SS on as many Hard tracks I can do. It’s addictive!
Yeah I've since mastered some expert songs and gotten the expert achievements. But I still most play song on hard. It's a bit to stressful on expert to enjoy the game for long periods.
My brain is odd in the sense that it processes the blocks without even having to fully look at them, and sometimes I will blank for a couple of seconds and do sections of the song perfectly but can’t recreate it later, and then whatever songs I don’t beat one day, one - two days later the song is tossed into memory and I can do that section well.
I've always associated warms colors with my right and cold colors with my left. Idk why, probably sinks? Beat Saber has it the opposite way by default. Switching the colors made a such a huge difference for me
Great video! I find it amusing that I naturally use my wrists; as, this seems very akin to playing the drums. The best advice in here is the play at higher speeds then slow it down to “normal”. As a tetris player that’s how I practice to get faster.
i know for a fact, trying incredibly hard levels to adapt really helps. i came back to beat saber after almost a year and had pretty much no experience that got me further than Expert on some levels. when i got halfway through the campaign, i decided to take Devourer Of Gods out for a spin let me just say, my arms and shoulders absolutely hate me for making that decision, but after trying it a few hours a day for 2 days, i actally managed to get all te way to 5 minutes, 48 seconds into the song, about half way, and now many official levels feel actually doable now, even a good amount of the expert+ ones the fact that i improved so quickly could have something to do with year old muscle memory being dug up from the catacombs of my brain, but i know for sure, challenging yourself early on does work
"Get custom sabers" - Best Trick! I had to play with the normal sabers for 2 days because my mods were broken. It sucks! With my thin and longer sabers I am much much muuuch better.
Everybody else is talking about how they just started hard mode... I got my oculus yesterday and I started on hard, I have a feeling those few thousand hours on osu are finally rubbing off...
Wanna hear something funny... hard used to be fast for me ... I remembered failing ghost several times on hard.. I’ve lost ten pounds playing this game oldly enough and have a lot more endurance. Now hard is really slow and expert is starting to get slow after beating spin eternally. I’m still on cammila album but expert plus is close! I almost passed 20 dollar bills on my first try on expert plus... but I figure I need to be more comfortable with expert Camila .. so yeah for some reason guitar hero didn’t help me as much as I think osu helped you or maybe VR was just weird to me.
I didn't realise that I could change where my sabers appeared so thanks for that and speeding up the tempo is a good tip. I was already slowing down to practice, but hadn't thought about speeding up. I think I was slowly realising that wrist flicks are faster than full arm swinging, Good to know I'm on the right track.
I tried changing the grip after watching your video and the result was dramatic lol. I had been struggling on a song for a few days and passed in a round after changing the grip. Thanks man!
i can second that changing grip helps A LOT, i used to hold as default but now i use the claw method, it’s easier to swing and gives better accuracy for sure!! so thanks sm
Yes I just changed to the claw grip a couple of days ago and I'm scoring 115 points on my cuts a lot more often. I've invented a slight variation though, I have wide wrist straps which allow me to hold the Rift controllers nearer my wrists so only the tips of my fingers are over the ring which is a lot more comfortable than the standard claw grip.
@@alwaxxys6705 Hi, I discovered that the regular design of controller straps which use a rubber loop can be converted to wrist straps. Normally the rubber loop goes round the controller button area or the controller ring but if you put the rubber loop over where the 2nd strap attaches to the base of the controller then both straps will go around your wrist to make a perfect wrist strap. Sorry, hard to explain without photos!
I tend to have the colors on default, because I play different songs from different ost packs and it helps quite a bit (and as you know the colors are different). It helps me because I can easily know which is my left and which is my right.. Something similar to that is just letting a friend pick out some random colors for you, or to just pick something random yourself without looking.
for the grip i recommend holding the handle and not the top of the controller, this allows the top of the controller to swing at a faster speed making bigger and cleaner cuts, besides it still is light and i use it a lot, it's very useful because it makes you feel so much faster.
Changing colors was a big help to me. It just so happens that my right hand is the color of Baja Blast, and the my left hand is the color of Sangrita Blast. I may love Mountain Dew, but I didn't plan it like that lol
If I'm struggling to keep up with the song, I turn it up slightly, if I need to learn the pattern better, I slow it down. I literally can't play with standard grip anymore, I'm so used to claw lol
...actually that cosmetic one makes a lot of sense. Sure red and blue are different colors. But white + dark color is an even bigger difference which helps distinguish the blocks. I'm gonna try this
I know the two things I'll have to try are changing my grip and practice using my wrist more, my arms can swing pretty fast but combining that with my wrist movement would significantly improve my game.
My favourite grip isn't among the examples. I hold the controllers like a conductors' baton. The base of the controllers is in my palm and my fingers and thumb kind of pinch the handle from there, with my index finger on the flat part of the button face for stability and control. I get lots and lots of wrist action this way.
do you mind sharing which sabers you use? i’ve been getting more into modding lately and wanted some good recommendations for new savers and liked yours quite a bit.
the wrist thing is def important. after like 3 or 4 days of playing I noticed that wrist motion is 100% needed. that's how I got to expert levels in a week. it's been like half a year and I'm still playing expert levels 😢also I can't really change my grip bc I use psvr.
I just started a few days ago and I’ve mastered ghost but I have trouble with light up and expert levels so I just turn the speed on ghost to 145 & disappearing arrows and when I go back to a level I struggle on its a lot easier to do. Doing this also increased my wrist stength and capability because 145 is hella fast
@TZA Luke yeah since i said that i've been able to complete expert light up and im starting to be able to do all parts of expert ghost except 1 part that really bothers me now when i go back to hard ghost its sooo slow so 145 speed is something you should consider if u still have a hard time with some faster and or harder levels
I just started playing 5 weeks ago, and I'm almost full combo-ing a lot of expert plus levels. In my case the best thing that I did was just playing expert plus levels until I beat them. I got really good at expert first then I only played expert plus for a few days and eventually all expert plus levels were way easier.
I’ve only been playing for three days since I got a quest 2 for my bday but I’m already able to pass a few custom expert songs that I got thanks to mod assistant I passed rage of dust on expert which is one of my favorite songs and it was super fun. But all in all the experience is fun and I already loved rhythm games and I think beat saber is my second favorite now. Will definitely continue playing
My go to challenge yourself song is ov sacrament and sincest whenever I open the game I give the song a few attempts and I can now go about halfway through the song and have been able to beat songs I never thought I would be able to beat
I try to beat rush E atleast a couple times every time I play beat saber, it helps me with common expert plus patterns [at the beginning and near the end] and faster swinging
Well I’m a straight robot at beat saber I will come back on this vid when I’m good it’s in my made my day playlist so I will look back thanks for the tips for when I’m actually ok
To be honest what most surprized me was after being stuck with the demo and playing it for about 2 years, I bought Beat Saber and on my first try beat a VOL1 song on hard. I did ok on expert and that was an honest shock for me. Still haven't played a level on easy yet, and I always play a new level on hard first.
I'm all fine for some extra speed, currently I have hard mastered, transitioning to expert, but when songs become crazy to the point where you cant even get good swings in, I just dont enjoy it. I'm mainly using it for fitness, which needs good arm and body movement, not broken wrists lmao.
@@Ladybug-ek3ti I guess try to use practice mode more on a song by song basis and practice the part where you just keep messing up. Once you figure out the best patters for your arms to swing, itll be easier. Sometimes i try it repeatedly on fast, then when you go back to normal, it seems really slow because you're used to fast. That'll help you figure the patterns out.
When I first started I thought this game would be easy. At first I failed on normal. Never did easy as I am use to rhythm games.k moved up to hard and now in less than a month I'm on expert. Currently mastering 360 mode as it is really fun to be able to play that many lanes especially when notes Crosse from one lane to the next where you're playing two or three lanes at once.
Do these grips apply to PSVR? If you're looking for a better grip with the PSVR motion controller, try gripping it closer to the bottom. For some reason I naturally hold it really close to the bottom and it helps. Its in a position where i can push with my palm and fingers to flick it. Trust me when I say it works. I completed all campaign levels gripping the controller this way.
...shame i already know all this stuff, but i remember when i was struggling to play any expert songs, i got the monstercat pack and saw overkill. died on the first wave of lotsa blocks and bc i liked the song i strived to full combo it and refused to play any other songs until then. when, just about three days later, i finally *beat* it (not full combo) i was happy! consistently practiced it until i finally full combo'd it, and then played a camellia map for shits and giggles and actually beat it first try. now, many months later, i have a 1148(?) combo on expert final boss chan (which has just about 1160 blocks iirc) and god that hurts. i wanna beat it so bad but i cant get that far anymore no matter how hard i try, and i just need some tips on how to stop fumbling. ive tried adjusting my controllers since i occasionally swing too early, but it just made my score worse. i cant do other grips bc theyre all uncomfortable. i use every part of my arm in these damed songs and my colors are distinct, my accuracy is fine but i just. mess up. and i dont know why.
I got myself a quest 2 for my birthday, so ive had it for a month now, i only play actively in the weekends and the rest im mostly on my pc watching videos. I'm already at hardmode for most songs and expert on some, what i did was just challenge myself by playing songs a difficulty where i fail most of the time and just grind through untill i make it, after that i grind untill i can get S rank. i use the "normal" grip mode which is the only one i can hold on for longer than 10 minutes before my hand starts to cramp up.
My problem right now is that expert mode on the first three albums(?) are super slow. But the other ones like spin eternally are still hard for me on expert mode. And yet I can do country rounds on expert plus and get an A... How do I break through this barrier?
I started improving really quickly when I started playing together with a friend of mine who's a lot better than me. He thinks a lot is too easy so I have to really push myself to keep up. We always turn on no fail and I just do the camellia expert and the occasional expert+ and I'm starting to get to a point where sometimes I haven't failed the level at the end even though I've only been playing for less than two months which I think is pretty good. It's also a great way to keep in touch with him.
I do expert and I have gotten way better and now all the songs that I like I suck at them more because they are slower but when I try expert it’s to fast these tips are helpful thank you
Wow some of these tips ima FOR SURE put into use. I've only got something like 50 ish hours in the game and am pretty much able to FC expert mode songs. Hopefully these tips will help me make the jump to expert+

@@FluffySezyt well like a lot of maps that have notes swapped far from the corresponding hand, so I'm just trying to figure out the best way to hit notes on the left with my right hand better and vice versa because I miss those, like do you have to move your arm a lot or do you just twist your wrist a certain way?
A good color scheme I use for my sabers is darkish grey for my left hand and not that bright of a cyan for my right if you don’t wanna do that just click timbaland in the colors
Also one thing to remember that beat saber is a rythm game and what i mean by that is when u swing down most likely the next block is gunna be up and if swing to the right the next note is probably gunna be swinging to the left
after playing for three years, i still can't get claw grip to work right for me. i now play 11 and 12 star maps but still use default. i really did try but i think my hands are just too small 😭

Yo thx 4 the tips! I hope they will help (my current highest-able-to-play level is normal, and hard is literally burning my sanity)
If I'm struggling to keep up with the song, I turn it up slightly, if I need to learn the pattern better, I slow it down. I literally can't play with standard grip anymore, I'm so used to claw lol
I am also so used to using the claw grip I literally can't play with default grip anymore lol
...actually that cosmetic one makes a lot of sense.
Just wanted to learn how to get better and see a small channel felt bad so immediately subbed
Lol, thx for the potty sub hehe
My favourite grip isn't among the examples.
I hold the controllers like a conductors' baton. The base of the controllers is in my palm and my fingers and thumb kind of pinch the handle from there, with my index finger on the flat part of the button face for stability and control. I get lots and lots of wrist action this way.
Werid but works
@@FluffySezyt Story of my life, brother.
Thanks really helpful I've been playing hard for a while and am just now starting to try to play expert difficulty songs
Love these tips, I want to get better at Beat Saber even more than I have. I am doing songs at expert and can get through some.
do you mind sharing which sabers you use? i’ve been getting more into modding lately and wanted some good recommendations for new savers and liked yours quite a bit.
I haven't played bs in awhile so I dont really have sabers I use
Thanks for the tips and also I completed my first expert+ song today
Hell yah bro, frick boxes
@@FluffySezyt yeah frick boxes!!!
the wrist thing is def important. after like 3 or 4 days of playing I noticed that wrist motion is 100% needed. that's how I got to expert levels in a week. it's been like half a year and I'm still playing expert levels 😢also I can't really change my grip bc I use psvr.
😪
Thank you, I'm subbed now and will try these tips
This video helped a lot and I was finally able to beat expert+ thank you so much
I just started playing 5 weeks ago, and I'm almost full combo-ing a lot of expert plus levels. In my case the best thing that I did was just playing expert plus levels until I beat them. I got really good at expert first then I only played expert plus for a few days and eventually all expert plus levels were way easier.
what kind of hud mods do u have they look awesome
Idr sorry
I’ve only been playing for three days since I got a quest 2 for my bday but I’m already able to pass a few custom expert songs that I got thanks to mod assistant I passed rage of dust on expert which is one of my favorite songs and it was super fun. But all in all the experience is fun and I already loved rhythm games and I think beat saber is my second favorite now. Will definitely continue playing
My go to challenge yourself song is ov sacrament and sincest whenever I open the game I give the song a few attempts and I can now go about halfway through the song and have been able to beat songs I never thought I would be able to beat
I try to beat rush E atleast a couple times every time I play beat saber, it helps me with common expert plus patterns [at the beginning and near the end] and faster swinging
fluffy: I No Expert
Me: I dont Want to Know What Expert Looks Like To Him
i use claw grip, single handedly made me go from hard to expert+, no joke
it makes that much of a difference
I think that palm grip is slightly underrated. Only if your hands are not giant
super great advice
I've beaten all the ost on expert+.. but.. I CAN'T BEAT THE DAMN CAMELIA SONGS!
Me too i was going to beat crystallized and what the cat but not the others
Yeah Camelia songs are harder
the camelia ones are always mapped weird and they are a lot different from normal ost songs i kinda struggle with them aswell so ur not the only one
Well I’m a straight robot at beat saber I will come back on this vid when I’m good it’s in my made my day playlist so I will look back thanks for the tips for when I’m actually ok
Awesome tips
To be honest what most surprized me was after being stuck with the demo and playing it for about 2 years, I bought Beat Saber and on my first try beat a VOL1 song on hard. I did ok on expert and that was an honest shock for me. Still haven't played a level on easy yet, and I always play a new level on hard first.
My friend and I enjoy using pink and teal for our colors. She is very good at the game, and I'm still learning how to be shpeed lol
SHPEED
I'm all fine for some extra speed, currently I have hard mastered, transitioning to expert, but when songs become crazy to the point where you cant even get good swings in, I just dont enjoy it. I'm mainly using it for fitness, which needs good arm and body movement, not broken wrists lmao.
I'm transitioning to expert because I've pretty much got hard master but some expert songs just seen too hard. Do you have any tips for me?
@@Ladybug-ek3ti I guess try to use practice mode more on a song by song basis and practice the part where you just keep messing up. Once you figure out the best patters for your arms to swing, itll be easier. Sometimes i try it repeatedly on fast, then when you go back to normal, it seems really slow because you're used to fast. That'll help you figure the patterns out.
Wow this helped so much I hit every note and I’m almost EXPERT!!!
When I started normal was really hard and was so excited whenever I would beat a hard song but now I can beat most expert+ songs
...shame i already know all this stuff, but i remember when i was struggling to play any expert songs, i got the monstercat pack and saw overkill. died on the first wave of lotsa blocks and bc i liked the song i strived to full combo it and refused to play any other songs until then. when, just about three days later, i finally *beat* it (not full combo) i was happy! consistently practiced it until i finally full combo'd it, and then played a camellia map for shits and giggles and actually beat it first try. now, many months later, i have a 1148(?) combo on expert final boss chan (which has just about 1160 blocks iirc) and god that hurts. i wanna beat it so bad but i cant get that far anymore no matter how hard i try, and i just need some tips on how to stop fumbling.
ive tried adjusting my controllers since i occasionally swing too early, but it just made my score worse. i cant do other grips bc theyre all uncomfortable. i use every part of my arm in these damed songs and my colors are distinct, my accuracy is fine but i just. mess up. and i dont know why.
I followed your tutorial 2 weeks ago, I got wayy better, now I've just beaten Countdown321
Super helpful thanks a bunch
I got myself a quest 2 for my birthday, so ive had it for a month now, i only play actively in the weekends and the rest im mostly on my pc watching videos.
I'm already at hardmode for most songs and expert on some, what i did was just challenge myself by playing songs a difficulty where i fail most of the time and just grind through untill i make it, after that i grind untill i can get S rank.
i use the "normal" grip mode which is the only one i can hold on for longer than 10 minutes before my hand starts to cramp up.
I caught myself ducking whenever a wall came in the video lol
Thank you for the tips
Totally agree about the color sequence. It really makes a difference . How do I get mods please?
i struggle with the level "what the cat" on hard alone so ima try get better at it
Dope
@@FluffySezyt ty
It’s tough. Almost as tough if not harder than ghost on the same difficulty.
My problem right now is that expert mode on the first three albums(?) are super slow. But the other ones like spin eternally are still hard for me on expert mode.
And yet I can do country rounds on expert plus and get an A...
How do I break through this barrier?
Its practice
I started improving really quickly when I started playing together with a friend of mine who's a lot better than me. He thinks a lot is too easy so I have to really push myself to keep up. We always turn on no fail and I just do the camellia expert and the occasional expert+ and I'm starting to get to a point where sometimes I haven't failed the level at the end even though I've only been playing for less than two months which I think is pretty good. It's also a great way to keep in touch with him.
I do expert and I have gotten way better and now all the songs that I like I suck at them more because they are slower but when I try expert it’s to fast these tips are helpful thank you
Good video keep it up
i once tried a touhou map 3 times, then decided to do a different map i had been struggling with and i full combo'd it
Wow some of these tips ima FOR SURE put into use. I've only got something like 50 ish hours in the game and am pretty much able to FC expert mode songs. Hopefully these tips will help me make the jump to expert+
Ima try these i feel like the one where you were talking about early swingers is gonna help alot cause I always end up missing ne because i swing to early!!! Ill report back when i try these tips! Also 2021 Gang
Y'all got any tips for hitting for example Blue notes all the way on the left? Like notes that are in opposite far sides of your arms.?
Its a bad map lmao
@@FluffySezyt well like a lot of maps that have notes swapped far from the corresponding hand, so I'm just trying to figure out the best way to hit notes on the left with my right hand better and vice versa because I miss those, like do you have to move your arm a lot or do you just twist your wrist a certain way?
No in that case u need to move ur whole arm, which is why da maps bad hehe
@@FluffySezyt damn.. makes sense tho thanks 🗿👍
fluffy how do I get those cool custom menu pointers ur using at 3:55
Idr sorry
@@FluffySezyt Oh its fine
2:00 Your battery runs out, your quest battery so you can't play anymore! That’s how you loose!
Lol
SO helpful!
A good color scheme I use for my sabers is darkish grey for my left hand and not that bright of a cyan for my right if you don’t wanna do that just click timbaland in the colors
One tip that I found out is to focused on your not dominant hand and let your dominant hand basically do its own thing
I used my friends vr and I got to expert difficulty and when I got my own I’m now on expert plus and trying to beat ghost
Also one thing to remember that beat saber is a rythm game and what i mean by that is when u swing down most likely the next block is gunna be up and if swing to the right the next note is probably gunna be swinging to the left
Thats not really a tip tho lol, its kinda something you just puck up as you play.
@@FluffySezyt well some people don't know surprisingly😂
i just play for exercise and i put no fail no matter what I want to move on the hard mode and so on I get discouraged a lot:(
So helpful!
That's very useful, thanks!
after playing for three years, i still can't get claw grip to work right for me. i now play 11 and 12 star maps but still use default. i really did try but i think my hands are just too small 😭
I am now able to reach the third drop in Exit this earth's atmosphere Expert+, I might actually beat it soon.
