Perfect timing for this Video Tyler. Just a couple days ago I tied on a drop shot for the very first time ever and went out on a heavily pressured public local lake. Not only was it my first time fishing this rig, it was my very first cast that I made with this set up that I realized just how effective this technique is. Caught a 3lb LMB that bit before I could even close the bail on the reel. Excited to put these tips to good use
Your vids have been helping me out a ton. Now with small mouth bass in the Colorado river systems, they are considered a invasive species finally. This is helping me keep more fish and loose less gear. Thanks bro.
Get out of my head. I was thinking today about drop shotting and have seen some of you videos and low and behold you have a new one out today. I live near Chickamauga and have to bank fish so looking at your bank fishing videos can be a treat.
I fished Chickamauga in one tourney and the biggest bass I caught during the tourney was a 6-04....on a drop shot..same worm I talk about in this video
I’m all about the Drop Shot. So much where I have to force myself to fish other baits and techniques. The Roboworm is the best damn bait there is for a straight tail presentation. Great video dude. I watch a bunch of your videos and they are always super informative.
I like to use a GYB Shad Shape Worm when dropshotting. I found that when I nose hooked them in the traditional manner, after awhile they would start hanging tail down, which was no good. I started hooking them the way that was described in the video and discovered that I caught more fish because the bait was always in the right position. I thought I invented this tip. 😄
I’m always learning from your videos, Ty! Thank you. Please consider northern natural lake breakdown videos, how to find northern natural lake fish, and important structure to dissect on northern natural lakes.
Was thinking about floating the Roaring River in Mid-Tennessee this Saturday I've drove the scenic road that runs along it just afew days ago and seen there are down tree's everywhere along portions of the bank looks like Large mouth heaven definitely going to implement these techniques during my outing...
Btw, glad to hear you mention the granddaddy of drop shot.. Aaron Martens. That guy could catch a keeper in a grocery store parking lot mud puddle with a robo worm drop shot.
Years ago in eastern Indiana I was 'spider rigging' for crappie with minnows a foot to 18 inches above the weight on the bottom of the line. I ended up limiting out on walleye. Sort of a crappie style drop shotting! 😁👍
Not seeing the links! Love your videos. I am a real hit or miss fisherman. Some days I go fishing. Other days I go catching. I want to do more catching! I fish from a Hobie Outback kayak equipped with a 7"Garmin Striker 7SV (side view) fish finder in Oregon. Your video on side scan was awesome, especially since I haven't used that feature because I did not understand it.
I like to use the BPS Squirrmin worm (4" and 6") on a dropshot when video fishing with 2d. Nose hooked with hook popped out the top is important when you want the worm to swing up and the little tail to kick and slow the fall since the fall is the presentation the way I do it mostly. Hooking it the way that reduces line twists kills the action of this worm. DEADLY for spotted bass when they're aggressive and economical worm to use. I'll switch to the robo style worm behind fronts when they don't want to eat the squirrmin worm.
Greetings coming from Indonesia, Maluku, Aru Islands, greetings always healthy and greetings strike, thank you for providing information about new bait and some additional explanations that are useful for us
Great episode Tyler. You were on point with everything you said in today’s session! Also, I recently caught my PB drop shotting in my local pond. So I don’t understand why someone would say that this can’t be done. . !? 🤨 🤷🏻♂️ Tight lines, ~ Manny ~ 🤙🏼
Thats awesome! I have actually received quite a few comments saying that...I don't get it either but I think some people get in the mind set that it is a deep clear water vertical presentation
I caught my first drop shot fish this weekend at the Ozarks in the big bass bash tournament. (First time trying the technique also) I also repped Finn Fishing gear all weekend. Thanks for the tips, always!
It's funny I went to every corner of the drop shot bait world and I always come back to the robo worm. I love the big bite smallie smasher for a minnow style bait and I definitely want to try that xzone minnow as I currently have some of their slammers
@BassFishinHQ yet another great vid! Also love the hats. Got one for me and one for my dad, probably get another one soon. Only topic you didn't cover is the knot. I used to exclusively use a Palomar, then started tying a knot where you put the line through the hooke eye, then make a loop twist the hook through the loop and sinch down after like 5 or 6 twists. Do you have a preference?
I lost too many Texas rigs in snags. I switched to drop shot and lose a fraction as many rigs. I use a lightly crimped split shot. When snagged, it slides off its leader. They’re cheap and quick to replace.
Sup. Even in RI it's not ready. Weather is crazy. I hope it doesn't hurt the spawn, being so late other predators will eat the babies? Idk. Tight lines
@@ronaldyeater3322 well I haven’t seen too many predators or panfish either. My guess bass haven’t even moved up to begin bedding yet. Up here I’ve found bass on beds in august some years.
@@AGuyNamedRicky Ty. Good to know. In RI I can't remember it going past may . crappie always come through spawn before bass, but not even a sign they are in prespawn? Some water still in 40's. Can't remember if I ever saw that going into may lol. Good luck bro
Same here, been fishing ten years , got into fly fishing, so spinning went to the back burner, just tossing spinners , and spoons. Just got into grubs and jig heads
Enjoyed video. Unfortunately for me- fish on highly pressured lakes so I enjoy these type videos. I'll take any tips I can get from an experienced angler I can. Question: what is your opinion about using high vis braid color (like yellow) to flouro leader - specifically when fishing drop shot rig? Some say hi vis line spooks bass even with flouro leader - other say that hi vis line helps with watching line - line crappie fishermen sometimes do. Hopefully question makes sense.
I can’t afford expensive lines so this is secondhand: I’ve heard several people mention using leaders between 15’ to 25’ long. You’ve got to have a really thin knot.
Okay Ty. I started drop shot fishing a few weeks ago and I'm hooked. Your tip about out fishing friends because you "drag" the bait instead of constantly shaking it is invaluable! I catch 90 % of my bass on the drag after letting it sink. Sink, couple of small shakes and begin the drag. THAT'S when they hit it!! Sometimes when the line is taut I will give the bait a small shake and they attack it but, it's almost always the drag that gets them. Thanks for the "drag" tip! I have one question, am I only catching smaller bass, (1.5-2Lbs NJ) because I am solely using Zoom 4" finesse worms? I even bite off an inch so, they are actually more like 3". Would I catch/attract larger bass with a larger worm? I'm ecstatic over the amount I'm catching but, am wondering if larger worms would mean larger catches? Oh, and BTW, ALL of my fishing is from the bank and, this technique definitely catches them from there. Thanks for the tips!
Keeping simple is refreshing.. seems like I spend so much time changing things that I probably miss fish. I really like the vmc spin shot hook. It lets me switch from a weedless ewg hook to a standard drop shot hook quicker. Have you used them? Am I missing fish by having that swivel assembly in front of the bait?
Good stuff. My second time watching this one and, of course I have questions. You said you use that Margarita Mutilator color in clear water? It seems to be a dark color that would be used in off colored water. Hmm. Second, would you ever use a soft Zoom fluke on a drop shot? Thanks
Got to thinking about the 8 pound leader. Would the bait stay more horizontal if you used a 12 pound leader? Wouldn't the bait + hook weight have a harder time laying over on heavier line? You might lose a little bit of the action but, isn't a horizontal bait the main concern? Thanks.
Nice, thanks. As a fly fisherman, I think I can duplicate this. The weight is the biggest issue but I think I can pitch it a good distance. Tight lines
Sup Tyler. Great video. The Best! I am drop shot king😎. Love it, best thing is if bait has lot of action can cast into current or flowing dam, and leave it be, put rod in holder like live bait and fish with another rod. In New England, RI weather has been awful. Water temps still in 40's. Hope delaying the spawn so long that the babies don't get eaten all up by other fish? Think that's possible? Ty brother tc
I think you will be just fine. We are dealing with crazy weather here in Ohio as well and anytime the spawn is delayed it seems like once they finally start biting, it can be some of the best fishing you will experience
It’s completely up to you but about 10-12 inches is a good start. My biggest piece of advice to to spool up a huge leader in case you break off or need to cut your line. Especially when using a drop shot you really don’t want to be tying that connection knot over and over again. Don’t worry it won’t affect casting or sensitivity. When tying the leader on imagine putting on enough to where if you broke off the entire rig, you could easily just put on another hook and do it again. Have fun it’s one of the absolutely easiest baits to catch fish on and master.
this why my two you tube hosts channels are realistic fishing and richard gene they show that bass crappie and other fish can be caught on budget gear and do fine with it there and as for tackle i order from temu and the tackle works just fine he must understand beginners are not so called pro's and produce some video's on some budge gear like i said taking nothing from him but he must see the two side's of bass fishing
