      If you start with your hook facing downward and run your line through the back of the hook, it'll come out facing upward and you don't have to run the tag back through

    I'm glad that you pointed out that the cylinder weight is not the best choice for anything other than grass.
    I can't stand them because they get hung up way too much in rocks but I see so many guys only using them and I don't get it.
    I'm using a teardrop 99.9% of the time.

      I have so many lead tear drop weights from shore clean ups that I finally tried one on a rocky, wind-blown point; much more sensitivity when combined with my 10lb copolymer setup; kinda power shotting light.

  • @DavidMccallister65
    @DavidMccallister65 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm with you 100% about tying your weight on. I never like just pinching the weight on because you lose them too easily. I actually open up the pincher and tie a palomar because it doesn't let your line cinch through when it's closed.

    • @bradleyrussell1973
      @bradleyrussell1973 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use a Palomar on the hook, but use a 4-wrap Duncan Loop (Stren knot) on my weight. It slips, but takes effort.

      I can fish them year round, in all waters, and STILL not catch a damn thing!

  • @bradleyrussell1973
    @bradleyrussell1973 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I tie the weight on first, then tie the hook in with a Palomar wherever I want it, starting the knot running through the GAP side of the hook. This puts the hook point up every time. Now, if I could just catch fish on the damn thing!

  • @tomc8930
    @tomc8930 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’m a little late to the party but I still have a question, is their anytime you’d put the weight above the hook? I know it sounds crazy but I’ve seen my son do it when he’s drop shot fishing a deep brush pike.

  • @DavidMccallister65
    @DavidMccallister65 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you point your hook the opposite direction from what you did when you're running your line through the first time, and then tie a palomar knot the hook will be facing upward every time and you don't have to run your tag end back through to make it point upward.
    In other words, point your hook down and run the line through the back of it and then tie the palomar knot

    Do you go with the heavier weight for a faster rate of fall or to be able to feel the bottom better and maintain contact?

    • @maxescamilla4597
      @maxescamilla4597 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the power shot. 3/16-3/8oz drop shot weight. Makes it easier to fish faster and still finesse them. Try a leader just longer than the bait. I see people use way too long of a tag line. Hope this helps.

  • @wvlongshooter3912
    @wvlongshooter3912 ปีที่แล้ว

    How about using a dropper for the bait ? Like a triple surgeon knot with about 6”’s of dropper tag for the bait. Then a line to the weight. Thanks!!

    My question is how do you rig a tube for a drop shot when fishing for smallies?

  • @robertbrost7777
    @robertbrost7777 ปีที่แล้ว

    What do you think about "nose hooking" the bait by going straight into the middle of the baits nose with the hook point and bringing the point back out roughly 1/2" back and out the top of the bait? It might keep the bait more horizontal in the water. Kind of looks like a swimbait with the hook exposed on top of the bait. Of course, I'm talking about using this nose hook technique when there are very few hangups in the water.

    So is this more for vertical fishing, or would you cast and slow drag?

    • @funkymojo111
      @funkymojo111 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the ball weight for fishing straight down like if I am on a dock or retrieving straight back up. The tear drop for rocky points and dragging with 10lb copolymer. The popular cylinder weight for fishing through grass beds but will lose MOST of my lead cylinder weights when dragging back to shore. When I get to the rocky shallows, I basically have to hop it or reel it back so it won't get snagged.

    i go through so much FC leader with dropshotting because i'm always afraid the Polamar knot is going to break so I retie often, maybe once or twice a day on the water. is that overkill? i was breaking off alot prior but have since focused on not crossing the FC in the knot itself to avoid cutting in.

    • @camhester4251

      that's not over kill , i retie ounce or twice also , maybe try using copolymere works great for me in P-Line , also you don't have to tie a palomar try a regular uni use the tag end the same way

    Alright, I have a question that you might have a solution for with the t-rig drop shot. I notice that it causes a great deal of line twist. How do you solve the line twist issue?

    • @stuartcarter944
      @stuartcarter944 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you have the line twist coming out of the spool or with the weight-to-hook leader after a hook set? I noticed line twist in the leader after every fish catch when t-rig, but not when I nose hook or wacky rig

    • @TheBassinPastor
      @TheBassinPastor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stuartcarter944It almost seems as if the drop shot is spinning on the fall, which is causing the leader to twist and, over time, the mainline to twit

    • @stuartcarter944
      @stuartcarter944 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheBassinPastor which knot are you using? I always use the Palomar and slide the tag end back through the eyelet of the hook, but then I have to kinda squeeze the knot into the eyelet too so that the hook stands straight out from the side. I wonder what could be going on to cause your twists?

    • @TheBassinPastor
      @TheBassinPastor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stuartcarter944 That's the same way I tie mine! I haven't figured it out yet, but I'm working on it, lol

    • @sautterfishing
      @sautterfishing ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheBassinPastor it absolutely is spinning as it’s falling. With every drop your getting more line twist. That’s why VMC came out with the spin shot hook. So the hook can rotate 360 degrees. You can also tie a barrel swivel from your braid to leader to allow it to spin and not twist your line. Or you can hook it the way Jacob said when he said under the chin and that helps itself for some reason.
