Bo Burnham expresses his confusion over Dax Flame. Bo Burnham: / boburnham Dax Flame: / daxflame A typo in the subtitles? I don't know what you're talking about... ;)
@VoidTaker yes but why does he have to be 'x' OR 'y'? Real OR fake? Surely people can fathom by now that we humans don't fit so neatly into little boxes. There will be elements of authenticity and elements of performance, as we all tend to do. We all exist in the grey area between real and fake, between this and that. Or is it some underlying belief that if someone is awkward, eccentric or odd, they simply CANNOT also be charismatic, clever and know how to use that in beneficial ways?
This will be played on Dax's documentary about his life, during the segment on how no one could tell whether or not he was satirically acting. Coincidentally enough, producted by dax himself, on his deathbed.
It's an 85% an act and 15% him. He is playing himself up hardcore, but it's mostly an act. His name isn't actually Bernice Jauch the third, it's Madison Patrello (you can find this on his imdb page if you google Dax Flame, not a doxx), and you can find quick clips and moments of him being "normal," But he's still Dax Flameish. Ultimately, the Andy Kaufman thing ain't far off, I think. He's a dude who seems to have a bit of an odd time expressing himself, figured out a way to do it in a way that works, and does that. You can find "exposes" from back in the day when he first started and things were a bit messy; his channel originally started after he recorded his first few vlogs and his sister boosted the channel by sending it out to a ton of people at her school. Sorry if this ruins the magic for you. He's still somewhat like his vlogs, but I sincerely doubt he ever accidentally peed on his friend.
we're still split 50/50 on if dax is playing a character...i think it'll always be that way...and then it begs the question, if you're playing a character for your entire life, are you playing a character? Are we all just playing characters?
@@nGUNNARp This is no doubt a good philosophical question. I would argue yes, we are all “playing a character” to some extent. Some of us might change our personality slightly when talking to one group of friends vs. the other, or maybe be a completely different person with your family than you are with friends. However I think it still makes that character “you” at the end of the day. An interesting thing about this is that we each have the complete power to act and “play” any character we want. If you want to be a success, you can “play” the character of a successful man. That means, wasting no time on social media, movies, or anything non productive. Working extra hard, getting educated, spending extra time on side hobbies, etc. if we “play that character” long enough, we actually become the successful man we are pretending to be. If a man wants to be strong and confident, he can “play the character” of someone who doesn’t care about being embarrassed, and go to the gym every day to work on his body. If a woman wants to be beautiful, she can buy products for clear skin, work on cardio to lose weight, and spend time learning how to do makeup. We all “play a character”, but what makes this concept interesting, is that we also get to choose who we want to be.
