You are angels for helping someone who has an overwhelming amount of items and salvaging what you could. I have helped cleaned out my 2 aunts (over 90 years of items) hoarder house and my parents house with 50 years of hoarding in it and it was a nightmare. Did I throw a lot of items out, ABSOLUTELY!! I didn't have 50-90 years to go through every single item and each time there were about 8 people helping. I have been minimalizing my house ever since.
I helped my parents as much as I could when they moved but I’m challenged by my own health issues. They had to move quickly and they could only do so much so yes things got tossed. Comments are brutal without even considering what these people may be going through.
I found a few houses that did this..filled my suv many times with cool stuff. I actually got invited in to take or buy more after sorting the massive outside piles. One house I took full trash sized bags of craft items and things to sort keep and toss the bags of unuseful things later. The most exciting finds Are when they toss silver ink pens and valuable items they dont even know about or care for value.
This and Curiosity Inc's hoarder house clean out showed me to make sure that before I pass on in the hopefully very very distant future to give the things that are precious to me to family (if there is anyone left) and other people who want it and will cherish it. I remember back then when an old lady who lived next to us gave my mother her whole Steiff stuffed animals collection. They still live in case at my mom's (the antique more fragile ones) and at my sister's and my home.
Unfortunately our children don’t want the things we’ve collected. I’ve informed them to take want they want and then let my friends go through it then donate or trash it. You can’t take it with they’re only material things.
Thank you. Jocelyn always has the comment in order to excuse her conduct: time constraint, make the best of the situation for every one: What? Her obvious disrespect and self-centered interest is apparent. They must think people are stupid. Be honest don't insult the public by attempting to manipulate them regarding your own objectives and goals: HUSTLE those items for a buck/dollar.
I went into Barnes & Noble dumpster surrounded by fence. The door was open and I needed boxes, so I slipped inside when suddenly the wind blew the gate shut. A metal pole went into a hole in the ground and it was on the outside of the gate. I felt like Lucy doing dumb things. I had bleeding fingers trying to wedge them under the gate and little by little raise the metal bar out of the hole to free myself. I finally did, and so lesson learned!
Last summer my neighbor two doors down was cleaning out their garage. He's 86 years old so he could not do it well by himself. He was getting ready to sell his house and he told me nobody had been in the garage for over 20 years. It was packed to the rafters with junk both loose and in cardboard boxes. Basically he offered to pay me in "stuff" if I helped him and said that the garage has a lot of "stuff" from the downsizing of their Victorian home in Connecticut 25 years ago. He implied there would be antiques involved. So I went into the garage and pulled stuff out and laid it out in the driveway for him to sort through and he had four piles. Stuff he wanted to keep. Stuff he wanted to sell. Stuff he would give away. And stuff that was not worthy of any of those first three categories. After he sorted through I could pick anything out of the last two categories and a portion of the second category. He decided not to keep much, mostly a handful of trinkets for his "ungrateful" children. I helped him price the sell pile for eBay since I had some experience with that and he didn't. I ended up with several boxes of things including over fifty pieces of carnival glass, depression glass, Sandwich glass and some pottery. He only figured the sterling and a few high end pottery pieces were worthy of eBay. I calculated after I sold my portion on eBay I got paid about $20 an hour. He made more than me off the sterling. You know a bargain is good when each thinks they got the better deal. I would have been thrilled with half the stuff he gave me. I ended up keeping a few pieces of furniture and restoring them.
The most upsetting thing to watch is family photographs being discarded and disrespected. They can always be donated to historical societies or archives. Even sold on ebay to people that will cherish them. 😔
You have a heart and brain. They are only looking for the items that will generate the most profit for them. Their apparent disrespect and disregard for others is appalling, disconcerting and disheartening. Rest assured they have received so many negative comments regarding this video next time they are displaying disrespect and revealing their true character while ascertaining merchandise to hustle they will know to hide it from the camera.
Most of the stuff in the dumpster could have gone to Goodwill but I guess it’s easier to just toss it! 🙄 Personally, I hate to see books tossed out because I’m such a reader. Fun video! 🥰
I threw a lot of stuff away when cleaning out my parents home because the second hand places “weren’t taking donations” at the time. I would of had to hire a truck to bring it all to a bigger town, which just wasn’t practical for me at the time.
People are strange...jealous, judgemental...wishful that it were them....do your own thing, you guys are living my dream and I love what you do. Best to your new venture!!
Aaaack Jocelyn! You need to systematically start at the open front part of the dumpster and pull things out. Toss to one side what you don't want - like the styrofoam & brokien items - then in the other direction set aside what you want to keep! That way you won't be standing on anything. Dang, I was so wanting to be there to dig in myself! Here, let me come give you a hand! Oh wait. Sigh.
All that Singer stuff is collectible. Even the Beatrix Potter book has its followers. Love that you got knee deep in the dumpster. I love it! A true lover of the vintage! Check the editions on the Stephen King too first Edition bring buck depending on the book. If the tins are old you can group and sell too.
Beatrix Potter storybook!!!! Always valuable. So much in there! This is why people collect vintage items. Too many great pieces end up in the trash like this!
So glad you're doing this. Several years ago after my aunt and uncle died her daughters went through their house and dumped decades worth of good stuff, hers, his, theirs, stuff from his mother...it made me nauseous to think of the treasures and it still does. All because they were too lazy to take it to a resale shop....
They are only looking for the items they can make the most profit from. Obvious Total disregard and disrespect for the person whose things meant something to them. Hustlers plain an simple. She always has the explanation reply in order to justify their conduct but, no matter how much they try to hide it on camera their total disrespect is apparent and appalling.
Oh my gosh, I'm so excited for you! I love finding dumpster treasures! Just fyi, if you are ever in another one of those dumpsters where there are a lot of old books, look for vintage, hardback cookbooks. They have really good resale value. Especially anything from the 50s.
I would have completely emptied the dumpster, chosen what I wanted, and sent every possible saved item to donate. Insane to throw all that stuff in the landfill! Yes, a lot of time, but well worth it.
Only if they are in good condition and early editions. Paper back and book club editions are almost always worthless and if they are all beat up likewise.
@@sharonnelson1392 I collect rare and antiquarian books. If your books are mint, never cracked open and never read and they are all first edition first printing in perfect condition, yes, they are worth some money though I am not sure a fortune. I have first edition and first printing of Carrie and Cujo and both are in their original wrappers. My copy of Carrie is probably worth between $2000 and $3000. If I had ever opened it up and read that copy it would be worth about $500. If it has some wear the value goes down to about $200. Later copies are worth considerably less. My copy of Cujo in likewise perfect condition is probably worth between $750 and $1000. Those are the only perfect copies of his books that I have. The rest are just standard used copies, some paperback. They are worth between $1 and $20. I am not sure what you mean by original.
I do humbly apologize for any misunderstandings Joce that my words may have conveyed. That dumpster full of stuff brought back some bad memories. I did not in any way intend for this to mean this was what was happening here. When folks have to move, sometimes there isn't any way around it, the stuff has to go. I was very glad you were able to go retrieve and save some things. I was surprised at myself at how that dumpster brought back such angry memories, for it has been over 30 years. Even the junk clearing companies donate stuff. We cleared out my great aunt's apartment and four(!) storage units. We all kept stuff, but the guys that came put the true trash in one truck, and the donations in another.
Grabbed only what was valuable to you. I honestly believe that with all the negative responses the best excuse to come up with was that you were in a time constraint. You stopped to ask the guys if you should keep items each time you pulled them out which was wasting time so obviously time wasn't an issue. If the guys said no, then you would chat about it and then toss it back in. Now that was time you wasted. Dumpster divers would have just been busy removing the items not questioning each other.
They grabbed what they could make the most profit $ from. And the time constraints comes in simply because they did not want to take the time to take the other items to a donate location. Rather spend that time doing something else that benefits them.
@@marinamiletic3673 Perfect. I am so glad someone else saw through her response. It was obvious she was coming up with a non committal excuse lie in order to appease the negative responses. There's soo much in that dumpster that could have gone to goodwill or other thrift stores. One thing that you have to take into consideration when you start doing clean out, every dumpster load costs you money. So you have get rid of the useable stuff other ways, thrift stores for the low end stuff, auctions for the good stuff to really good stuff and the there's the stuff that is what you want to sell. And the dumpster is only for garbage. Then you have consider everything that can be scrapped. Metal is up pretty high right now. You should watch The channel Curiosity inc. He has done a few hoarder clean outs. It could give you some ideas. One of the hoarders had literally a house full of vintage clothes from the 40's-50's up to the 70's-80's fashion and the other was a famous Canadian potter. He found a shit ton of jewellery gold, silver and amazing costume jewellery and the pottery worth 1000's. And there was cast stashed all over the the house.

I know, sadly, it wasn't..... I saw a top of a lamp that wasn't checked out either. Better to pull large things out from the beginning to see and find the goodness easier.
sewing things, yay! i will buy anything sewing, especially sewing machine parts that fit my vintage machines, BUTTONS, sewing notions, patterns, fabric. sewing containers. maybe you will add vintage sewing to your inventory.
I’m right there with you.
Those Singer Sewing Machine magazines on how to make dresses, etc. WOULD have been a very good purchase for someone. Sorry they were left behind!
Goodness what people throw away! Please save the costuming/sewing books/patterns and the art books! They are in demand for collectors and costumers!
They did not save them.
I found a few houses that did this..filled my suv many times with cool stuff. I actually got invited in to take or buy more after sorting the massive outside piles. One house I took full trash sized bags of craft items and things to sort keep and toss the bags of unuseful things later. The most exciting finds
Are when they toss silver ink pens and valuable items they dont even know about or care for value.
This is my ultimate nightmare--for all my precious stuff to be tossed in a dumpster! I would definitely be haunting whoever did this!
Especially if it was my china and glass!!!
They SHOULD BE HAUNTED!
People collects singer sewing books, especially vintage...
I would Have loved those old dress making pattern books. Much better than those of today! Just batch them!
The wedding photos in the dumpster is kind of sad.
Very 😭
I had packers come and so called friends throw my photos out on purpose
People's memories tossed like garbage 😢
It might be a marriage they would rather forget!
Please save the bassinet even if the legs aren’t good. A new Mom who cant afford newborn bedding would love to have it. It could be donated.
The most upsetting thing to watch is family photographs being discarded and disrespected. They can always be donated to historical societies or archives. Even sold on ebay to people that will cherish them. 😔
Sometimes family photos should be trashed. I trashed all the pictures of my trashy family, exactly where they should be.
ONKYO???? That was a high-end brand...nothing "off brand" about it. Keep in mind when it comes to curb picking.....IT'S ALL PURE PROFIT.
Paul Mezhir Exactly right, and vintage turntables are in demand. Everyone is re-discovering the sound quality of vinyl!
And pronounced ONK-yo not on-KY-o like she said
I still have Onkyo Cd- player and amplifier
I have an Onkyo amp from 2011 and they refurbished it for a recall in 2018 and i got it second hand too boot still works good quality
Didn't you love the questioning tone pronouncing it... Too cute. 😉
You need to learn about turn tables...you passed up a good brand.
heartbreaking that people's lives end up in a dumpster, I'm so glad you are salvaging everything you can!
Most of the stuff in the dumpster could have gone to Goodwill but I guess it’s easier to just toss it! 🙄 Personally, I hate to see books tossed out because I’m such a reader. Fun video! 🥰
Actually it would be less work, just a phone call and they do all the work! And no cost to rent a dumpster. I don't understand peoples mentality!
I threw a lot of stuff away when cleaning out my parents home because the second hand places “weren’t taking donations” at the time. I would of had to hire a truck to bring it all to a bigger town, which just wasn’t practical for me at the time.
Agree!
I find the wanton waste and destruction very distressing.
Oh wait. Sigh.
People who junk journal were dying that you were tossing, books, paper, fabric, sewing accessories, old photos. ☹️☹️
Yes!😱😱😱
All that Singer stuff is collectible. Even the Beatrix Potter book has its followers. Love that you got knee deep in the dumpster. I love it! A true lover of the vintage! Check the editions on the Stephen King too first Edition bring buck depending on the book. If the tins are old you can group and sell too.
Beatrix Potter storybook!!!! Always valuable. So much in there! This is why people collect vintage items. Too many great pieces end up in the trash like this!
The first cabinet with the drawers that each had their own sliding top is so need.
An apothecary cabinet from “the days of yore”
First edition Stephan king books go for $1000
Do you follow the Curiousity Incorporated channel? They are in Canada and recently cleaned out a hoarder's home.
She does.
I love the Archibald family and Hans and Zenobia!
I bet they have a lot of shared fans. Definitely my two favourite vintage/antique channels. :)
Read the comments.....glad I am not the only one sicken by the waste. Not against you Joce, just the fact that it was all thrown away.
LOL embrace the dumpster diving. You will be amazed at the great treasures you will find. It's crazy the things that get thrown away. Go girl!!
Best guest ever. From one admiring fangirl. I love Eric!
Dear Jesus, please don’t let her phone fall out of her pocket😂
😅 That would be a good excuse to dig to the bottom of the dumpster! 😅

I wanna be there! Take the bassinet! Use it in ur store for display of stuff.
Display textiles! Yes!!!
Why throw Christmas decorations away you could donate it to a great cause
I would have gladly paid for those singer books - all of them! Sewing is making a HUGE comeback and the vintage stuff is highly sought after.
Totally would have grabbed the bassinet to display all the old stuffed animals for one of the booths. But I like the creepy old stuff, lol.
I found this sad. So much stuff that should have been donated. I'd be foraging round in there for hours.
Ah! Those Krebs glass Christmas ornaments. I was looking for ornaments online and the Krebs brand was selling for $50 for 4😲! Too rich for me.
The stuffed dog reminded me of an autograph hound from the 60s
OPEN the SUITCASES!
Omg Andrew had u pass on some good stuff! Ugh men leave them home!🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, they can have their smoke brake at home.
I would have completely emptied the dumpster, chosen what I wanted, and sent every possible saved item to donate. Insane to throw all that stuff in the landfill! Yes, a lot of time, but well worth it.
Glad you realize this. It's encouraging and refreshing to know not everyone is gullible enough to accept what they are told.
Stephen King books can be very profitable.
That Bachman books with Rage in it would bring some money. Rage is hard to find.
@@thriftykristisproducttesti984 the unabridged version of The Stand was $99 the last time I looked.
Only if they are in good condition and early editions. Paper back and book club editions are almost always worthless and if they are all beat up likewise.
@@nunyabiznez6381 mine are all original and I have everything he's written. Worth a fortune if I was willing to sell them.
Dumpster diving and antique/vintage videos my two favorites in one!! I didn’t think such excitement could be rolled up into one video!!!
I will in future restrain myself from airing dirty laundry like that. It doesn't uplift anyone, and I wouldn't wish to offend you on any level. Blessings to you and yours today, and hope it is sunny and warm.
Thank you for not being afraid to rescue treasures from the landfill. As always I love your videos 😊
The bassinet would make a nice display for your booth...quilts, etc
I watch breakfast the young lady who dumpster dives she gets some great stuff, I have done curbside finds but never had the guts to DD love watching the videos though
It’s funny how you’re so excited and your husband so calm lol
We had to leave alot of stuff behind when my mother passed and the house sold quick. Alot of things bought in Taiwan and Okinawa. Made me sick but it is what it is. She lived in another state and between time and finances we had to leave most of it. Anyway someone made out like a bandit and I cant blame them. I'm happier knowing it wasnt thrown away in a dumpster.
Wow! Those ornaments, books and other stuff would resale at our local thrift shop.
I used to manage high end apartments and I was so sad to see folks move out and leave everything, family photos etc. people find themselves in all kinds of situations.
Arg! It killed me to see you pass by the sewing books! Patterns, lesson books, parts, all great. The Onkyo players list on Ebay between $80 and $450 depending on year etc. Glad you kept that. You've got great instincts. As others have said, don't listen to the boys about sewing stuff!
Please keep good stuff that you don't want for yourself and donate to goodwill. Save it from the landfills!!!!!!
The bromance is real. Andrew: “That’s a piece of crap don’t take it”. Eric says - yes that’s worth it ... Andrew “oh yeah let’s take it”. 😂😂
That is so sad. We would probably sit down and cry if we knew how many people do that. I am changing the Executor on my will because my brother said they would bring in a dumpster and start tossing to clean out my house. My house is full of collectibles and several antiques. He doesn’t appreciate things like that and sees it as junk to be thrown out. So, off to the lawyer I go! I am sitting here hyperventilating for even the stuff you don’t want! I love all that kind of stuff!
Another option would be to not leave it to your survivors. Clean out before the time comes, give things to those you want to have them.
Try to dispose your stuff while you can still do it..😁
Yes! That turn table would sell..the bowling bowl makes awesome flowerbed ornament if it's a pretty one
Carla Howard I have a vintage powder blue bowling ball I’m going to use in my new flower garden. Great idea! I’ve seen a few.
Ohhh my goodness! I would have loved that Murphys mart bag! Loved that store when I was younger.
I love dumpster diving.I literally furnished my whole home from dumpster diving and thrift stores
Love! I would have been in the dumpster forever! Nice treasures!💕🦩
Last comment I promise... lol
But it breaks my heart to see all this stuff that could be donated to women's shelter etc.. like the books, toys ,clothes etc
Maybe this is your calling to become a cleaner outer!
@@kirstenrissling879 lol I already am. I am a certified dumpster diver!!! 🤣🤣My whole house except couch, dishes etc..( although I just found a brand new in the box roasting pan with rack in trash) are all from dumpster finds. It would be so fun hey?!
It makes me physically ill to see what is being sent to the landfill!!! There should be laws against this! House clean out services should be regulated. I'm glad you saved a little of it.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this reaction. Kind of started to think my love for old things and my sentimentality when it comes to family photos and heirlooms clouded my judgement.
Watching the video now, love you guys but I was SO upset that so many things could have been just set aside to take to Goodwill or some other charity. Clothes, books. As well as the items that could've been recycled. PLEASE donate/recycle what you can. ❤
Unfortunately, there were time constraints and we were called in late on this one. We did grab what we could.
@@marinamiletic3673
Perfect. I am so glad someone else saw through her response. It was obvious she was coming up with a non committal excuse lie in order to appease the negative responses. What is more offensive than her total disregard and disrespect for the individual whose items were discarded was: her disrespect in assuming the public is so gullible and can be manipulated. Hustlers....
Honesty and reflecting genuineness are mandate with me. If someone is honest win, lose or draw I respect them.
If it was me there, I would not have left until I went through EVERYTHING in that dumpster! I shudder to think about all the treasures that are going to the dump. Photos are always heartbreaking to see thrown away, but if the family doesn’t want them, who else would? So many things could have been donated to Salvation Army or Savers or Goodwill; someone who needs Christmas decorations that don’t cost a fortune. So little time to go through so much stuff.
Sometimes people only gather what they're interested in or have knowledge about. Watching Curiosity Inc. has shown me that there are ways to respect the belongings of those dead or alive. Everything has a history and someone who will want a piece of that history.
If you remember the potters house, Alex was also trashing stuff that people wanted. I think he learned a lot from his viewers in that almost anything can be salvaged.
Alex is a gem of a man.
The vintage phone! Oh my, you guys were 'so' close to turning it over to salvage/see. If you know its style, please let us know! :)
Now this is real American picking, Mike and Frank have it so easy.... 🌝👍
Sewing machine parts sell very well. That was a good turntable
Why did I find this so engaging?! Because it was totally unrehearsed and just plain fun. Thanks!
The turntable is a must save. You can easily sell it on Facebook if you don't want to deal with Ebay.
That makin’ Bacon glass was too funny! I remember those. Thanks for taking us along. I can’t wait till tomorrow
Agree with you- I love that lid-less coffee pot as a vase!
Could you do a chit chat and share how to locate clean outs and suggestions for expanding that direction? How to make those contacts? Those luggage pieces make great staging for photos, and I like to pain them for seasonal decor.
Omg they could’ve donated a lot of that stuff! Why do people throw away good stuff! Great saves guys!
I get so upset when people throw out good stuff. 😡My parents used to go to the dump and they pulled out great things. I wish they would allow that now. 💔. I would so go dumpster diving.
Hi Jocelyn, I would also have to keep digging, although I have to say that it just breaks my heart to see all the family photos just trashed so sad! thanks for sharing
