Katie, I recommend you come back in your next video and clarify what you mean by scam. Scamming someone denotes dishonesty, lies, putting something over on someone to take advantage. Using the word scam is serious. I understand that those items with the lower price are the older items but I am not sure. Did you ask someone there to find out why there is a difference in price? Did you call the head office? You should find out the reason first before defaming a brand name like Hobby Lobby. It is one thing to tell people to check the prices but to imply that something else sneaky is going on, is another. Please get back to us once you have more info. Thank you!!

I actually work at hobby lobby. Currently we have a ton of items that the prices are dropping. I know, as I’ve spent DAYS marking down products. All identical products are supposed to be marked the same. Each week we get a list of price changes that we are supposed to take care of. However sometimes we are so busy we just aren’t able to get to them all. Sometimes items are returned after price changes have been done & it isn’t noticed that the returned item is a different price when it’s put back on the shelf. Any cashier who sees identical items, with the same item number, at different prices should be ringing them up at the lower price. And as far as the sales signs go, people need to read the signs. It clearly explains which items, which category, is on sale & which is not. Hobby Lobby is not trying to scam anyone. It’s a sore run by people. And every single item gets keyed in, not scanned. We even offer price adjustments if an item you purchase goes on sale within 10 days of your purchase.

Last year we had a Hobby Lobby open in my suburb. I was so excited! My first visit, I went up and down every aisle, amazed at the variety of items they carried. I really didn’t need anything, but I picked up a bunch of stuff that I thought was on sale or clearance. When I got home, I compared the receipt to the items I bought and found some items that I thought were on sale but was charged the full price. A few of those were way overpriced and I would never had bought them at full price. So back to the store I went. It was very easy to return the items, they just ask if there’s anything wrong with the item. I told the cashier I thought the signs said they were on sale and he told me I was mistaken, only some were on sale. While I was there, another customer was complaining to the cashier that the items she was buying were on sale and they were ringing up full price. Her cashier told her she was mistaken. That customer actually went and retrieved the sale sign and showed the cashier and the cashier told her her chosen items were NEXT TO the sale items, but they were NOT on sale. She had the cashier remove the full priced items and only purchased the ones that were ringing up on sale, all the while complaining that these items were all together on the same shelf and they were trying to fool customers into buying the full priced items. That’s exactly how I felt as well. I haven’t been back since and as pissed as that other customer was when she left, I doubt she ever set foot back in that store either. I know a lot of people don’t pay attention to how things are ringing up and they lose their receipts in the car on the way home, and have no idea they paid $29 for one item and $49 for the exact same item, so Hobby Lobby gets away with that. Certainly not good customer service.

They have stands where they mix table top decor with wall decor and such and they have a huge sign saying 50%off in the very bottom they have tiny letters explaining which one is on sale but many people think the entire stand is on sale so yes to me that’s a scam! Well if you haven't noticed... We keep sending money to other countries and printing another batch. The USA buying power has taken a big hit in the last 3 years, and especially in the last year. Our buying power is now on turd level and declining. Crap from China cost more now, fuel and shipping to get it here, and nearly a 35% decrease in buying power makes the "new inventory" a different retail price. Hobby Lobby is not running a scam... Just be thankful that they haven't gone back and raised the price tag on the older stock. The way I see it they have a profit margin they have to achieve based on the price they purchased it at. The smart thing to do as a consumer is check the price tag to see which one you can get cheaper.

Good point! I also feel like it could be since they hand mark everything, it is a good way to mark things down as they’ve sat on the shelf a while. By the time the front items have sold at a higher price, it’s time to get the back items out to make room for new items. The lower price helps them to do that without looking at each individual item in the store and marking random things down daily. I don’t work at Hobby Lobby or anything but this is my guess! I previously worked as an Assistant Buyer for a couple of major retailers. This situation is a major red flag that the store managers, district managers, corporate retail buyers, and sales analysts aren't properly communicating with each other. Either they should have reticketed the lower priced items to match the higher priced items...or they should have scheduled the higher priced merchandise to arrive in-store after the lower priced items sold out. The only time it is appropriate for the exact same items to be at 2 different prices at the same time is when something is damaged, yet still sellable, or when the item is perishable and near expiration date...so the older items still on the selling floor would be marked down 50% -75% off regular price.

However, like all retailers, over the past couple years they have experienced cost of goods inflation and it's been necessary to increase prices. Then new stock of the same item were put out in the next year at a higher price (because of rise in pricing from the supplier). Old items (with old qr codes) were not retagged because that stock is older and was bought from the supplier at the old cost. A retailer will always shoot for 10-35% profit. (Take, this for a EXAMPLE !!! ) Hobby Lobby orders 10 MIRRORS FOR $ 25.00 in Jan.
Then, Four Months Later in April - 7 MIRRORS was Sold out of 10..
So, when they Re ORDER LOW STOCK , the Computer shows 7 MIRRORS SOLD OUT OF 10 for $ 25.00
So,they Reorder that same identical Mirror to restock the shelve because they were selling and getting low .. So, when the New SAME IDENTICAL MIRROR comes in to Restock the shelve, it got a HIGHER PRICE TAG on it, (because now the manufacturer charges more to make it now and shipping cost more )
the associates re-stocking the shelves does not go around pulling the old tags off, because that is what hobby lobby had paid for the item back in Jan... so what ever they paid for that mirror stays the same tag for $ 25.00, until they run out of the 10 mirrors old inventory stock. ((Remember they had started with 10 for $ 25.00 (7 sold , so 3 was left at $ 25.00) But, now they have the new ones in, they are priced higher because the price of the shipper cost more to make the product. Hobby Lobby is, not scamming no body. This, is why you are seeing some higher prices, and some lower prices on THE same identical items.. This, happens on a regular weekly basis, it happens every where. Example, gas one day you pay $4.00 for a gallon of gas, by the end of the week its gone up to .25 cents more a gallon. Now, they want $ 4.25 a gallon .. well, its the same with any store not just hobby lobby scamming people, because they are not.. sO, this is why you are seeing the same identical items some lower , some higher..

I love Hobby Lobby so the heads up about the price tag differences is good to know. That being said, it’s NOT a scam or fraud like many are trying to purport. It’s totally legit. Each tag is marked clearly. Buy or don’t buy the item(s). Personally I would much rather find the good deals, rather then they come through with a sticker gun and mark all the items to the newer higher price. It is ridiculous to complain about this practice. I live the fact that they don’t. People should be grateful to find deals when and where they can. Things everywhere are getting so expensive. Have you been to a thrift store lately? Salvation Army and Good Will, etc. are pricing like they are department stores for many items.

It's not a scam, but inflation and a realistic look at how the same product increases in price each year. I have been a retail store manager for 22 years and my company sells the same goods year over year...but each year that same item increases in price. Hobby Lobby's flaw is that their items have the retail price marked on the tag, which is why you find those differences in price. Most companies have a "price policy," which means they (we) have to honor the price marked, regardless of the actual current retail. Always fun to find the same item with the cheaper $, that's for sure!

In the (19)70's shop owners would commonly "mark-up" prices on old stock when new shipments came in at a higher price point. A law was created which stopped these "unearned" mark-ups. Old stock must be sold at the old price. New stock was sold at the new price. Your generation is not used to seeing these types of price differences. Probably because Walmart (& others) just changes the price in the computer & on the little shelf sign. They've apparently been getting around the '70's law. (Maybe that's the SCAM you're missing.)
