Your title is wrong, those are SL-1200's, not 1210's. I wanted to see the changes side by side of the black additions as they've changed from the 1210GR to the 1210GR2
Actually, the 1210GR was black with silver accents/trims, the 1200GR was silver with black accents/trims. The GR2's are all black or all silver.....with no other colour accents or trims.
I paused the video at the 5:57 mark and studied the graph. It compares speed fluctuations at the platter"s edge at 33 1/3 rpm. Of interest is the vertical scale. Max fluctuation occurs around 2 Hz (for both units) with magnitude of 2.0E-4 m/s. That's 0.00002 m/s. I'm fairly confident I wouldn't be able to hear the difference.
AGREED!!! Worst tonearm lift around. Love my brand new SL-100 C but that tonearm lift!! Hoping maybe it will "loosen up" a bit. Even the tonearm lift on the Pioneer PLX 500 / 1000 are light years ahead of the Technics. All that trickle down engineering and they cannot develop a better solution.
Hi, thanks for your video. I just have two questions for you. First, you mentioned that Technics has made a considerable investment to improve the performance of the GR and develop the GR2. Can you please provide a figure for that investment? $100k, $1M, $5M, etc.? Second, is the noise that the GR2 eliminates, which the GR cannot, audible to the human ear? If so, could you provide evidence of this? Thank you in advance.
Strang, B&H photo in NYC has the GR on sale for $1499 with a struck thru $1799 and a put list for the GR2 of $2199. Looks like I got chumped into believing I was saving $300 when in actuality the list price for GR is $1499.😤
I prefer my GR over GR2 simply because of the design. The all silver GR2 looks ugly IMO. I had experience with GR2 and soundwise it´s the same. Just like construction, tonearm, cueing mechanism. New motor is just reason to pump up the price. Just like PSU. I will never replace my GR.
For me it's also the design. Especially with my SL1210GR. It's the only one left with the black finish and silver tonearm and buttons (as it should be...). Why does SL1210GR2 has black tonearm and buttons....It looks almost identical to the half the price MK7....
because i got the SL1210 MKII ( black ), i would tend to buy a pair of SL1200 GRII ( silver ). it's because the MKII /GRII models are slightly improved and further developed compared to their predecessor models. and they're still tank-like quality TECHNICS players. unfortunately it's just not available for me at the moment, because life is more than collecting TECHNICS turntables.

Yes that's correct and the tonearm of the 1200G is also much more like the MK2. The tonearm on the MK7 and GR/GR2 looks the same from the outside, but the insides are significantly simplified, resulting in a tonearmlift that feels much more flimsy. I've owned an MK2 and MK4 in the past and now own a 1200G and 1200M7L (white MK7) - I opened all of them to check the insides.
@@Krkbiker Nice, I have the 1200G and 1200M7L, which is a white MK7. How's the GR2? Are the improvements really what they're cracked up to be? I've found a nice deal on a GR2, so I've been considering to add it to my collection, but the difference between the GR2 and GR seem so small...
Wow! What a pleasant surprise review. I have both tables and love them both!

The 1200 are grey, the 1210 are black, the rest is the same.

That's exactly what I wanted to see as a comparison, as they're very different to what the video implies. Thanks
I have the original japanese 1210gr and i love it. My endgame deck. no upgrade needed here.
same here, done

When are they going to upgrade the cheap plastic tonearm lift system? The 40+ year old SL 1100A lift was light years ahead.

Got my 1210 GR for 999. I doubt a 2 will come down to a 3 fig price for awhile.
As far as I know the SK 1200's where originally made for home use, but the disc jockey started to use it . I may be wrong.

Hi, what are the speakers model/name that are shown in your video alongside the turntable? Are they passive or active speakers?

Should keep tone arm color as before, they lost original sl1200 black look….it’s gone..

Agree. And it's the same motor as well, only new chipset.

Hate the brushed arm and silver power butto. Looks cheap. Such a downgrade look wise to the chrome look which looks premium.
Fun fact: 33+45=78, I actually did the very complicated Math.
How? No details. Basically no difference just a lot of blah blah blah For more money. Gr2 is the gr but u pay more for the 2 stamped on it.
Sounds very could you please send me a send me catalogue thank you
