    Great vid Terry,being a diesel fitter for 37yrs i do all my own services(5000K's) had a catch since
    5000K's .Thanks for backing up my advice i give to my mates.👴🏾👍🏾

    Hi Terry, as a new LC200 owner i find the content of your DIY video's to be absolutely outstanding. I prefer to do my own maintenance also as i then know 1) it has been done 2) if it needs to be done in a breakdown situation i know how to do it. Your videos give people the confidence to have a crack themselves and that is sometimes hard to find.
    Keep up the great work and keep that content flowing.

    You have clearly missed your true vocation Terry. What an outstandingly excellent explanation of how an intercooler works. I’ve got a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and standard intercooler hoses are a real problem. Splitting is very common so I upgraded mine to new silicone ones and a catch can virtually from new. No issues so far but I’m keen to learn more and I’ve come to the right channel for that.

    Great content Terry well explained, my LC 200 2017 vehicle has 40k on the clock I fitted a Flash Lube catch can at 400 kls best thing I could have done usually drain 50 mm every 5k this amount of crap varies slightly on the type of driving done in this period . I am confident my intercooler would still be very clean by your experience thanks. Ian

    Good vid. That said, I’ve an almost identical vehicle but without catchcan and 14Ok done. i replaced intercooler about 15k ago and it was just as clean as yours at the start of the vid.

    I have a 79 series landcruiser that has just reached 90,000 kilometers and I've owned it since new. same engine as a 200 series, except single turbo and more room to remove the intercooler. today I gave it a good service including removing the intercooler to replace the map sensor filter. the vehicle has a catch can, installed 70k ago and I found the intercooler barely coated in oil so I left it as is.
    I flushed the old map filter to see what it was like, and hardly any black oily crap was inside it too, so probably good for another 90k.
    to me this verifies the benefit of a catch can as long as it regularly drained as suggested

    Very interesting topic. I have a V8 4WD but it is petrol rather than diesel powered, it doesn't have a catch can installed. I have given some thought to installing a catch can, after seeing the results from your service I think it would be a good investment.

      I had an LSA Camaro and am building a LSA FJ45, both petrol and both have catch cans. I’m an advocate that’s for sure. Just make sure it’s installed correctly and maintained and you will have happy motoring. Cheers👍😎

    Good video Terry. Have you charted your catch can drain volume through the life of your vehicle?
    I fitted a catch can after the 1,000km first service. In the next 18,000km I've only drained 169g of liquid.

      Thanks for the kind words mate. I pull 50-60ml every 5000km, and that has not changed from when I fitted the catch can at 70K until now at 200K. There was another fellow in the comments that noted he pulls the same volume as I do and has had his catch can fitted since new. The specific gravity of the goo is close to 0.9:1, so your 169g = 187ml over 18,000km. That works out to 52ml per 5000km, pretty bloody close to what I’m pulling. Cheers😎👍

    Very impressive and informative video. Im a the moment doing a intake clean on my 200, 370000km with no catch can…Well it is quite clogged. Any information regarding the blanking of your egr? I would like to do that and I’m going to fit a catch can as well. All the best from Sweden

      Thanks for the kind words mate, and I’m glad you found some value here. I’m not surprised your intake is clogged, by design it really is inevitable without intervention of a catch can and EGR blank off plate.
      The blank off plate is a simple thin steel plate, much like a gasket. It prevents exhaust gasses from returning to the intake system.
      I have seen them for sale on eBay, but that was years ago, I have not looked recently.
      With these blank off plates, you MUST reprogram the ECU. If you just blank off the EGR without addressing the ECU, it will throw a code and put you in limp mode.
      I had the entire operation done when I had my chip fitted and dyno tuned.
      I have also heard of a solution of a forced EGR valve closure through a ECU reprogramming and not using blank off plates. I have no first hand experience with this method.

    Another cracking Video Terry, thanks for the super content. You mentioned you have an EGR blank, I would like to fit one to my 200 but read quite a lot of conflicting information. Is yours a drilled plate or solid, have you also had to remap or fit an electronics gizmo to fool the ECU into thinking everything is sweet? Thanks in advance.

      Thanks for the kind words Brett, I really do appreciate it. I have a solid blank off plate as I did not want to get any soot at all past that point and create the black goo like the photos in my video. When I fitted my Unichip, the ECU modifications were made at that time. The reason some fit a blank off plate with the 10mm hole, is that they are trying to avoid having to trick the ECU into thinking everything is ok. I have heard this works SOMETIMES, i.e. it has worked for some, but others still report that the ECU throws a code. Of course, the 10mm hole still lets some soot past so you are not eliminating the black goo problem, just delaying it. If it were me, I would go a solid blank off plate and have the ECU tricked. I provide no advise on the legalities of this however 😎👍

      @@JafffaAdventures Thanks very much Terry for your answer on this, I would much rather blank it completely, I have done this on my 1HD-FT 80 series after cleaning out the intake. Unfortunately mine has already covered 70k so will already have some build up no doubt.
      I'll have to try and find someone in the UK who can sort the ECU. We do have a Unichip dealer not too far away, so maybe it will have to be in combination with a Unichip X 😎

    Others had bigger Improvements.
    But you have had a provent 200 installed for how long?
    They had no catch can for big kms before.
    Mines done nearly 300k and I was first to install one. So thanks for the video will do it soon and post results as I expect them to be much bigger.

    Hi Terry thanks for the videos 👌🏽. Do you have a video or some more info on the egr blanking plate? Does yours have a 7mm hole? How are your egts with the plate in place. I’m about to add one to my 200 so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

      No problem at all mate, happy to help. All EGR blanking plates need either an ECU reprogram, or a signal interrupt device to fool the ECU into thinking nothing is wrong. If you do not do this it will throw a code.
      The plates with a hole in it (which are a waste of time in my opinion because they still let gases through) were designed that way so you don’t have to deal with the ECU throwing codes. They still do throw codes however.
      EGT’s come down with a plate in place but not by a lot, 20C maximum, but that of course is not why you install one any way, it’s just a minor spin off benefit.

    Hi Terry
    Have you had your EGR valve blocked off?
    Just wondering how your car performs ?
    Also did you need to have the ecg altered to stop the Eng light and code coming up?

    hi Terry, in one of your recent videos you mentioned that you have a restrictor or block off plate installed, can you let me know what type that you used and if you had to change anything else when you did it.

      Yes indeed mate, I do have an EGR blanking plate installed. I have seen two types, ones with a 10mm hole in the centre and ones that are a complete block off. When you block the EGR off, you will have to get the ECU reprogrammed or it will throw a code. The idea behind the plate with the 10mm hole is that you get some of the benefit by restricting most of the exhaust gases while not throwing a code. The problem is that the ECU will still throw a code (albeit intermittently) and of course you still get black goo building up in the intake because some exhaust gases still get through. For these reasons I have blocked the EGR completely and have had the ECU reprogrammed to prevent it from throwing a code. I have heard of a piggy back module you can install to trick the ECU into thinking the EGR is still functioning but I have no experience with these so cannot advise. Cheers👍😎

    How can i know the highest normal range at sand drive for charged air temperature i see in mine around 95 Celsius
    And search with no accurate answer

      Your charge air temp is going to be very much dependent on two factors.
      Firstly, your inlet air temp. The higher the inlet air temp, the higher the charge air temp.
      Secondly, the type of sand driving. Soft dry sand under high boost will see charge air temps very high. Harder wet sand will see them much lower.
      In terms of giving you a number, I cannot as I cannot read my charge air temps. What I would suggest you do is keep monitoring it, get a feel for what is normal for your vehicle under the different conditions, then if that changes over time you know something could be wrong. Cheers👍😎

    Question - why both a blanking plate and a catch can? Or are you running a blanking plate with a hole?

      No mate, a full EGR blanking plate, no hole. Having a hole defeats the purpose of having a plate in the first place.
      The EGR recirculates exhaust gas into the intake system. Putting a blanking plate or switching off the EGR eliminates the “soot in the intake issue”.
      It does not address the oily vapour that gets past the rings during the normal combustion process. The catch can catches these oily vapours and attempts to filter them out so that it does not enter back into the intake system. You have to address both issues (EGR generated soot) and crankcase oil vapours for the cleanest intake charge possible. Cheers👍😎
