- Everyone knows the DMC-12 DeLorean, the iconic "Back to the Future" stainless steel 2-seater. But what few people know is that once upon a time a prototype was envisioned for a 4-seat DeLorean. It never came, but one adamant father decided to build his own.

@@RetroOnSpeedDial I think in runs on the tears of the children being compressed in the backseat. Good fuel milage I presume. Only 88 miles per tear. I expect the kids start blinking red, while beeping in a high tone when their tears need replenished. And everyone knows you can't get that in every corner drugstore.
Some say, if you go high speed, your children will start to flux quickly, and they'll be adults in the backseat. All we know is, he's called the Stig's....... Child!
I hope that mr. "6 foot 4 inch" Doug DeMuro will fit in the back seat

John DeLorean himself was 6'4, he fit was If it wouldn't kill the value, this would be a great idea.
I feel if the DMC-12 was designed this way to begin with, it would have saved Delorean originally. People would have been more forgiving to the lapse in power and performance for the handy family amenities of a 4 seater that got decent gas mileage and looked badass. The new motor setup also sounds way way sportier than the stock engine and parts are more readily available.
John DeLorean had a design spirit that compelled him to break free of the corporate design mold and chart a new course with his own car. I love how many owners today are similarly compelled. To me, it says that DeLorean was on to something-- and that something inspires people to live their own dream on the canvas that John DeLorean left for them.

Fell out with John back when I owned a Delorean. He moved to America not long after and I have always regretted not sorting things out with him. Glad to see he managed to build this car after talking about doing for so long.

Doc Brown made an eight-seater DeLorean, a DMC-48, in Back to the Future: The Ride.
Remember the BTTF animated series? Doc Brown somehow added two rear seats for his children. Fantastic.
I like how the tan interior evokes the interior of the prototype and the black and polished aluminum BBS style wheels look fantastic when the car is on the move!
If Doc Brown would have worked on this instead of screwing around with Mr. Fusion, Jennifer and Einstein could have sat in the back instead of Marty's lap!
He should do a DeLorean woody wagon next. With whitewalls.

Nice job, the interior color is great. Hard not to notice how far off center the rear wheels are, but it's still a great job!
oh dang, I didn't notice at first. Hard to tell from a front 3/4 view. But then at 5:30 dannngggg those rear wheels are pushed way far back from where they should be.

The engine and transmission are wedged into the Y in the subframe. If the car were rear-ended, that force would then transmit below the passenger cabin. What do you base your claim on? I'm guessing you haven't done any analysis of crash tesing with this car. And the car can go 110 mph.

Sliding the front seats forward, specially the passenger seat, would give even more room in the back.

It helps that the DeLorean was supposed to have a V8 but they put in a smaller engine instead.
According to DeLorean's chief engineer, only 6-cylinder engines were under consideration. A Ford V6 was the first engine considered in the summer of 1974.
why not put a ford Thunderbird turbo coupe 4 cylinder engine instead, provided you can find one!
Jonny Lightning no but Mr. Regular drove a guy's DMC-12 with an LS V8 in it, which was pretty awesome and got on down the road quite well.
I think they were also considering the Buick 3800 but GM would not sell them any.
They were also considering a Citroen 4 Cylinder engine, and they were planning on Turbocharging it, which Citroen wasn't happy with, and later on Citroen turbocharged those engines themselves...

The back seat is about what you'd see in a 3rd generation F Body or a 300Z seeing how he was able to add a back seat without modding the external dimensions of the cars suggests they probably were thinking about a 2+2 variant.
Those back seats have less room and head room than a 911..DMC-24 would have extended the roofline
I hate to be leaving a negative comment, on paper this sounds like an interesting and great idea, but I'm sorry, I had to pause at 0:20 . . . that has got to be the SMALLEST and most cramped looking back-seat I've EVER seen. I can remember, when I was a kid my mom had a 1986 Z28 Camaro, and as I grew older and obviously in height (I'm 6 feet tall), she had to go and buy an SUV because my older brother and I were REALLY cramped in that back-seat. I've actually sat in a Delorean as an adult (a few years back, met someone locally who I discovered owns one, I drove to the house one random day and asked about taking pictures because I love the model car so much, and she even offered for me to sit in it for one picture), and I don't know if the seats are adjustable, or even the steering wheel, but that is without a doubt, the SMALLEST car I've ever been in, the steering wheel was pressing down into my legs, and I then realized that I would probably never be able to drive one. Back-seat in a Delorean? Heh, must be nice for short people.
Also, I think I have a small bit of claustrophobia. I can't be in a small, cramped space for very long before it starts to bother me.
In response to the end of the video, there are plenty of sporty 4 seaters that I'd glady buy if I start a family, especially here in Australia.

It's a fantastic piece of work, but it is kind of obvious there is absolutely no space for the legs. The backrest of the front seats almost touch the rear seats.
