I've been around DeLoreans most of my life. I wanted to say thank you for actually shinning some truth on some of these myths. They are truly amazing cars and people like us can help show people the truth. We go day by day hearing the same false things people that believe are true. One of the best cars on the road. Live the dream!
Please don't tell me your serious. Those things were awful. Looked awful, had an awful stainless steel body, are difficult to work on and are terrible unreliable. BTTF was the only reason anybody every gave those things a second look.
Neutrally Neutral comments like this makes me laugh honestly. Usually comes from people that know nothing of the car. Be honest I do NOT like the BTTF movies. There’s so much to the car itself than a stupid movie. To be why would anybody watch a movie about incest & a man making the car look like a mobile meth lab. I’ve been around DeLoreans for 15+ years and I can already discredit your unreliability part right off the bat. Only thing I do not like is that Bosch mechanical fuel injection which is mentioned in this video. I swear that system was designed for Germany’s revenge on losing the war. That system does not like to sit and that’s what most people’s issues are when they try running the car. We know a couple with 800k miles on theirs and a guy with 700k miles on his and he daily drives ever since he bought it in 1981. Yes I know the super early cars roughly 300 or so cars had build quality issues but they greatly improved. The cars handle well and perform rather well. I personally love the styling of the car and the stainless panels. But if you take care of these cars they are actually very reliable. Also they are easier to work on than most cars. Only thing a pain is that fuel system as I said. Converting it over to a modern EFI helps tremendously.
To be fair any car built while bombs and gun battles are going on 200 yards from the factory that is still around must be decent enough but the Delorean couldn't even keep up with a Cavalier SRI 130 i can still see the test track from my house
@@jparsons233 Those cars do not handle well even by 80's standards. I know many of the flaws with them because one of my former automotive instructors spent a lot of time around them. And any time he mentioned a flaw with a modern car, he would relate it with the DeLorean. As a car, they were terrible. As a company, They failed in the most embarrassing way any automaker has failed. Just because you really like those cars, doesn't mean they were actually good.
Neutrally Neutral the thing that really did hurt handing I’ll admit was raising the front end up. Lowering the car back down the way it should have been really helps. We’ve taken the Delorean on some country roads and went around corners at high speeds. The car does have huge potential. As I said I’ve been around DeLoreans most of my life. I’ve been in a few stock suspension DeLoreans and they handled better than what most said. Well if you really want the best handling out of these cars I do recommend DPI in Ohio. Their suspension set is amazing.
It’s such a neat car even disregarding the pop culture meaning. It always reminds me of the Bricklin SV-1. The weird material, the gullwing doors, the futuristic design, the one-off production, the weird history and ethos, all of it :)
Oh my god I want one of these so badly. I’m working my ass off doing anything I can to make money during the lockdown and am trying to get any automotive apprenticeship to make money towards one of these
A Delorean passed me on I-385 today and took my exit so it sat next to me idling. It sounded good and much better than 99% of any new cars at idle .This guy knows his stuff . I had an 83 Mondial QV with that same Bosch K-Jetronic FI system . It is durable for sure but due to Ferrari's moderately aggressive cam overlap it never ran the same any two times I drove it for the six years I had it - except above about 4000 rpm which was consistent and oh so lovely . The Delorean is an amazing car .
I have one of your shift knobs on my car, VIN 10365. I bought it from you at the Memphis DCS. I bought the smooth spherical polished stainless shift knob from your vendor table.
Great car Casey, you are right about the equipment being dumped in the Irish Sea when the factory was being liquidated. My cousin worked for the British government in Belfast at the time and told me that same story. Keep up the good work 👍🇮🇪

I love the DeLorean! Such a fun car, of course Back to the Future was my exposure and any time I see one with a time machine conversion it just makes me smile. Last time I was at the Petersen they had a Hollywood movie car display with one and it was great seeing it there. The best for me though is in the small town that I live in we have a Town Square with a "clock tower" and there is a DeLorean in town and every once in a while I find it parked in front of our clock tower and it's just priceless to see.
Thanks Casey! Now I’m starting to want a DeLorean. Maybe after I buy a Scirocco and a 944. You’re showing me all my favorites from when I was in high school. (I’ve actually owned several Sciroccos, but only wished for the others) I remember the day that my parents took me to a DeLorean dealership to see one in person. I had a DeLorean brochure for years and years.
Been wanting a DeLorean since I was a kid, still want to get one that isn't running and needs work and just do it myself, that's a dream of mine no matter how many years go by, never diminishes, only grows stronger, but right now, things aren't so good for me in my life, so maybe soon or even years from now I might get my chance. Thanks for the video :)
Wow ... that brought back some memories! In 1981 I autocrossed a Delorean supplied to me by Dunhill Cigarettes for a series championship. Did ok ... class wins, but not competitive for the series overall. Being an early car there were quality control build issues ... running too hot, fitment body/interior things like that and the dealer took care of them. Once you get your head around the fact it's a boulevard cruiser they were a pretty decent piece ... more of a cruiser/GT. As an autocross car it had some serious quirks ... snapping between heavy understeer to heavy oversteer .... had to drive the wheels off it to be competitive ... best bet was to carry speed in the corners an pitch it into a balanced drift while keeping rpm in top end of the range ... but again not really what it was meant for. As an unusual driver, touring or GT piece ... with the bugs sorted (as they well should be nearly 20 years later) it would be a nice piece. Thanks for the memories ... been a very long time since I thought of the "81" season.
I have watched this video several times, something about this Delorean looks so clean compared to others. Definitely a well maintained and cared for car. What I wouldn't do to own one of these beautiful cars, truly a testimony to automotive craftsmanship.
i'm glad you brought up the suspension thing. i wish more people realized you can just lower it to john delorean's original specs. delorean themselves will even do this for you.
That is such a beautiful car. I love the straight lines of the design; convex, compact mid section that is coupled with those muscular oval wheel arches and the outer arching lower section of the car. Those wheels are gorgeous with those high profile tires. It looks planted on the road. This car looked futuristic in the 80s and now looks like what those old futuristic illustrations imagined the future to look like. It looks retro-futuristic. All they have to do is take this design exactly as it is and do upgrades of quality. On the outside add LED headlights, better plastic, hide the exposed parts, etc. On the inside do a total upgrade, update the internals with modern materials, give it a better dashboard with LED screens. Finally, put in an electric motor, all wheel drive and 1.21 gigawatts battery
I love this car alot even in stock form. My cousin has 4. 1 stock, 2 with engine swaps (GM crate motor with manuals, one of which is set up for track racing) and the last one is going to be mine, waiting it to be put together, with a built Renault V6 turbo and maybe a 5 speed or 6 speed manual.
I have always loved the DeLorean, and yes that is because of Back to the Future. I remember the first time seeing the movie was in a hospital room after getting my tonsils taken out. It was unlike anything I had ever seen before and anything I have ever seen since. Yes there are modern sports cars that capture similar designs but I will not consider my life complete until I get to own a DeLorean.
Nice! It all makes perfect sense, i never saw any hard reason why the PRV should be intrinsically anemic. The default mod should be exhaust headers, standalone, turbo then. BTW, Peugeot rhymes with "purge-all". Looking forward to Genius Garage's reasonably fast Delorean build.
This one really looks good with the adjusted suspension. Love the beautiful Giugiaro design, hes my favorite car designer. He is the connection between Lotus and de Lorean as he designed the Esprit as well. Lotus did the engineering and chassis development as far as i know.
Thanks for the great video from another Delorean owner ;) The Delorean has elevated respect and recognition in the public’s eye due to Back to the future, and therefore I understand the knee-jerk reaction from other car enthusiasts to take the car and its fans down a peg. I’ve even been guilty in the past pre-ownership fanboying over it. Tempering expectations to the fact it's a 35-year-old car made in the 80s is one thing, but instead, it’s straight into hyperbole about how bad the car is. Repeating myths that are not true and exaggerating flaws reinforced by all the clickbait Top 10 car articles they see on Facebook.
So nice to see a walk around and drive of this car and get a better idea of exactly what it is as opposed to its general public image of a movie car and of a car from a company that came and went too fast. Thank you.
This is the FIRST DeLorean review that finally cut out the bullshit and looked at the car from an accurate standpoint. I've owned 2 of them, current '82 owner, and they're only bad cars if you don't know what you're doing. The problem DeLoreans have is a bad impression brought on by the media, and movie people that buy them that aren't, and never will be, car people. A DeLorean is not easy to own by any means but, in a lot of respects, it's easier to own than most as well. The only time I've ever been stranded in one was when I installed a new fuel pump and didn't tighten down the main feed line all the way. The slander is unfortunate, but it comes with the territory of owning one. Most reviews are put on by people that own basket cases and perpetuate the myth and present the same damn thing over and over. Thank you for finally stepping back and presenting one truthfully, Casey.
Woot early. The DeLorean is my absolute favorite cat ever. Just think it’s such a cool car. Wish I could own one. Manual transmission is the only way a DeLorean should be. Automatic trans is for the weak.
I was in my mid-twenties when they came out. A few other things were at work to kill it. 1) I think the expectations were too high because of JZD's leadership 2) The performance did not match the price. It was almost $10K more than the Corvette 3) The stainless covered body was not to many peoples' liking 4) (Personal opinion) I don't think the US was ready for a six cylinder "performance" car that didn't come from Stuttgart. I myself thought they were the coolest thing around, but people voted with their checkbook and mine would've bounced like a basketball.
When I was stationed on Guam, a friend of mine ended up purchasing a modified R33 GTS-t Skyline that had been illegally imported. It had a good bit of stuff done to it including an Apexi Power-FC and some kind of turbo upgrade (I can't remember what it was, although I believe it was also from Apexi) and a full 3.5" exhaust. It tore ass. Reason why I mention this is because of the speedometer thing. Japanese speedos went up to 180 KPH which is something around 114 MPH if I remember correctly. It just so happens that Guam's main highway (top speed of which was 45) has a long, straight stretch going north before you hit the Air Force base. Well, my buddy was not afraid to stretch the legs of this car out and he hit an estimated 180 MPH. Yes, MPH. The needle went all the way past 180 KPH, wrapped around back to zero, and went to at least 60 or so. We actually calculated the speed based on the actual KPH that the Power-FC had logged. There's more to that story that I won't get into involving SWAT detaining him on the Air Force base, but I will never forget how ridiculous it was to see a speedo wrap all the way around and then some. Yes, a speedo definitely does not indicate the top speed of the car! On a side note, I love the DMC-12. Always have. I STILL want one! Maybe someday!
Also, put me FIRMLY into the camp of LOATHING Bosch MFI. My '91 Jetta GLI is a great little car with over 330k miles on it, but godamn that Motronic crap is a pain in the ass to get running right. I want to rip it out and just start over with a Megasquirt or something.
Hey Casey!! My buddy bought an '81 DMC 12 brand new. Man, he LOVED that thing!! BUT!!!! The central locking system had flaws. When I say flaws, the car would NOT unlock to let you out!!! He had to open the mail slot and hand the key to someone to unlock it from the outside! Dealer said they didn't know how to fix it. So he couldn't ever lock the doors!! But thanks for showing a sorted one!
My '81 has the aftermarket BAE turbo and no cats. Good for about 190 HP. 227K miles on that DeLorean, holy moly. Mine has less than 38K miles and has been on a damp road once in the last 14 years. It stays in the garage under the original dealer provided car cover most of the time. Before the current situation, it would get driven to Saturday morning breakfast or maybe out to supper occasionally. Can't wait for things to open back up again.
I have a 81 delorean as well as a 78 esprit s2. I just love Giugiaro's stylings from the 70s and 80s with the folded paper design. Nothing else like it and never will be due to modern safety standards. Love an honest look at the delorean. Of all myc ars i owned in my life shes been an obsession and is my favorite by far. But with that comes the car that no one knows anything about. When i bought my car i have heard so many people quote incorrect crap about the car and i didnt know where they were hearing this stuff, between modern muscle guys hating on it, people selling the doors were used to traffic coke to jzd was a scumbag. I learned to just let people be people and talk while I ignore them because LOL WHO CARES, I own the car, fuck'em! Anyway cheers mate great video.
ONE POINT TWENTY ONE GIGAWATTS!!!! I owned an '87 Isuzu Impulse Turbo, loved that car to death but parts were impossible to find. Anyway, it too was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Loved the shapes of the cars he designed!
Well you're kind of flying in the face of the facts. For a start delorean was a disgusting maggot of a human being. He admitted as much on camera in court. You can find it here and see him admitting it. He had a disgusting smirk on his face. He has a history of defrauding people. He specialized in disabled pensioners. He dared not and did not return to the UK because he knew a ten year prison sentence awaited him for embezzlement of public funds. Among his theft from the Irish public was one scam he and Colin Chapman perpetrated. That particular eight million pounds was actually recovered from a fake company set up by he and Chapman. That was recovered before delorean could get to it. Chapman only avoided prosecution by dying. The whole " Lotus refinement " thing was a scam. Even Lotus employees reported that. The thing just sat in the corner except for the few times delorean brought big wigs to visit. It would then be pulled out and have guys poring all over it. Complete joke and complete fraud. Chapman was actually bilking the public too trying to keep struggling Lotus afloat. Chapman was not of good character either but that's not news. And you " don't know where people are hearing this stuff " ? They are hearing it from engineers, auto testers, owners, people who have had to maintain them and generally anyone who is exposed to them I had to maintain two for the same guy for almost 4 years. I have to admit they weren't too hard to work on nor really expensive because they were built from the low end parts from low end mass produced cars. Their design is atrocious, their performance is atrocious, their handling is atrocious and their construction is about the same. The terrible suspension design results in bump steer, rear steer and generally vague steering and road holding. Don't be suggesting that nobody knows what they are talking about. People who actually know which way is up know all about them. They are a disgusting con just like delorean. They are a thrown together hotch potch of cheap components and they drive accordingly.

2:50 The most important thing to know about the Bosch K-Jetronic is DRIVE THE CAR REGULARLY. Nothing else matters if you have rust in the fuel system, that is what turns these cars into garbage. I am always amazed at the lack of interest on TH-cam about the Delorean. I have a series of Delorean videos with almost no views. I think people who don't use the internet like them. TH-cam watchers don't like watching videos on the Delorean. Good video, thank you!
@@merfeldma Well then, you are proving me wrong about TH-camrs and the Delorean. Great to hear, let me know if you want to have more details on my videos, this car has been fun to work with.
My pop-culture inspired affinity for these cars actually pre-dates the BTTF movies. Former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley had one, and in 1983 led police on a high-speed chase through the streets of New York. I have wanted one ever since!
So about the windows... They are called Toll both windows... So you can give your money when you go through a toll both. I think that your correct about the molds being tossed into the ocean, but the good thing is that DMC Texas has the blue prints to be able to make new ones...I actually had DMC Ca fix a dent in my front left fender a few years ago and did a GREAT job. @@DeLoreansgarage Cool, you probably will be the first diesel powered D in the world. And a torque monster. Are you keeping the stock transmission or replacing?
The fun part of the 85 speedo was seeing how brave you were to keep going once it was pegged. Then to lift off the gas as see how long it took before it came back up again. I had a 79 Buick with that standard 85 'limit'. I pegged it only once because anything over 80 MPH and the body would start to float. I was up to around 100 and the engine still had more to give but was betrayed by poor aerodynamics.
John DeLorean created a great car, his thoughts as a designer were great. Many people in the world love this car, its history and honor its Creator. Many people would like to own such a car, but not many can afford to buy it for many reasons. You can't say bad things about this car, it is unique and good in its own way. Before you say bad words, you need to create something of your own, putting your own work and desire.
Great video on a great car. I think the Subaru you mentioned was the SVX. Back in the day, it was nicknamed the Super ‘roo. As super as it might have been, I’d still take a Delorean.
The body die were chopped up and sold by the receivership company to a fishing boat owner who used then as weights on the fishing nets, thats were the rumour came from.,
I had the dubious honor of working at a DeLorean dealership back in the 80s as a technician, so unlike most DeLorean fan boys I actually have quite a bit of experience with them, beyond just seeing one in a silly movie. They were a complete and total POS. There wasn't a single employee at the dealership who would have disagreed with that. I constantly met people who raved about how great DeLoreans were, but none of them had ever owned or driven or even sat in one. They just thought they looked cool. Perception over reality.
Cool video Casey! Learned a few things from it! Main one being that all these years, for some reason, I always thought that they had Buick V-6's. Couldn't tell you where I ever heard that, but to day was for sure the first time I ever heard anything about the Volvo motor. Nice EAA hat too! LOVE going to the Airventure.....I'm only an hour south of Oshkosh.
I dated a guy in high school so early 90s and he drove a delorean and it was sooooo cool. But he was a nerd and everyone at school said he was a dork but I loved dating him bc i got to see and drive that car lol
Here in Europe the A310 V6, which came out before the DMC 12, was the main competitor. Lighter, faster, cheaper and available. Then there was the Alfa GT Veloce with another awesome V6. Add to this, the DMC 12 was more in the price range of a 928 ... Stainless steel panels glued to a plastic body added to the weight of the car but didn't create much interest here.
Even if the DMC-12's were slow for any reason, I wouldn't care. Why go fast when you want people to gawk at how awesome this car is? lol, but seriously the DMC-12 is one of the most beautiful cars ever to roll on our earths roads. I have so much respect for this rare classic even without considering it's history with Back to the Future. Personally, I love to drive BMW's for their amazing road performance but in all honesty there are very few vehicles, even BMW's, that I'd say look better than a DMC-12. If it wasn't so hard to find and take care of these cars, I'd want to own one for a weekend driver. Whoever owns the one in this video definitely knows that this car was meant to be driven and not spend its entire life as a garage queen. That's why it has so many miles. Mileage means nothing outside of value as long as you care for and properly maintain your vehicle, and obviously this owner has done just that.
I was one of the few Delorean owners that drove it to the BBTF movie premier. My father bought one new in 81 and it showed up on a flatbed breaking down on its maiden drive home. As long as I maintained good college grades it was my car. It had all the well documented weaknesses made worse by SC's 100+ summer heat. We sold it and got a Pantera instead not long after BTTF released. Surprisingly nobody "freaked" or even made a scene over it. TBO most never having seen one irl didn't recognize it and even today many think it is a kit car not knowing they were a production vehicle. Jump to early 2000s and I bought a identical early vin and threw money at it ever since. Kept the overall car's appearance other than lowering it stock. Anything that fuel, liquids or electricity touches has been replaced. All known weaknesses were addressed but kept the fuel inj system. Its my fair weather car and daily driver. It HATES summer so while most up N garage them during winter thats my driving season.
That V6 is perfectly fine.... in a Volvo. It wasn't limited by the Bosch direct injection. The 300SL Gullwing was able to do 160 with a straight six and a similar system back in the 50s.
I had always known the DeLorean was given crap for being slow and such, but I never what specifically was wrong with them. Definitely moved up on my favorites list after this video, thanks Casey!
I agree with every bit of this video, recently I had a birthday party themed after the DeLorean and got to have a REAL DeLorean there, not only did I get to admire it but I also got to ride in it! The DeLorean is a clearly misunderstood car that is shamed because of its speed.
Casey, the SVX was an homage to the DMC-12, and that is why they had the same design team hired by Subaru. I had one and loved every minute of it. The left fender issue was that when they shipped to the US originally, the crate was mis-marked as right hand and they were destroyed as it was overstock that was not wanted. Yes, the dies were thrown into the sea to prevent anyone from ever building these cars again. Steven Wynn, owner of DMC today, has been quoted that the dies may need to be removed from their watery grave due to water pollution. He hopes to get them and refurb them to be used for new car builds.
And thats why I daily drive mine! They are only bad cars for the people the half ass repair them! I have the Spec 1 no catalyst exhaust with headers, throttle body spacer, K&N filter with a cold air intake and the Casey Putsch stainless air box! I love it these cars drive and very comfy on long cruises! The K-Jet is a great set up and not bad for what it is and I get 28mpg with it! Thanks for the great video!
I love those tight aggressive angled body styles that were so common in the 70's and 80's. Am I alone in thinking that car aesthetics went down the toilet when manufactures started to make all cars look soft and round; as if fearing a child will poke out their eye on a car lol. Super informative as usual Casey, thanks for educating me; as I had heard all of the mentioned misinformation with Deloreans.
I was fortunate to own one for a few years. I was surprised with how low it is to the ground and the body never got old to look at. It's a pretty solid car.
A friend of mine has a Delorean. The x-frame is covered in epoxy paint from the factory. The paint can crack over time, causing water to pass through and rust the frame. I would like to see a review of my type car, the Bricklin SV1. Before Delorean, there was Bricklin.
It’s no coincidence that this video was recommended to me after I just watched Back to the Future yesterday... Google is always listening

This my friends is what we call "Rolling Art".. Simply beautiful and still stylish even today. Thanks for sharing. 🙏

It’s such a neat car even disregarding the pop culture meaning. It always reminds me of the Bricklin SV-1. The weird material, the gullwing doors, the futuristic design, the one-off production, the weird history and ethos, all of it :)

Giugiaro knocked it out of the park with the Delorean, just a classic look that doesn't age.
It’s unique but it still looks like an 80s sports car.
Oh it ages, but it ages very well
It's funny to think that the other design went to Bricklin. 😋
@@Kart_18_Racer Agreed. Still looks aged, with it's typically 80's blocky design. But it still looks super cool.
It does age and not very well. It's a stainless steel doorstop wedge that had depressing performance specs that make the Pontiac Fiero look fast.

All Logan Utah has/had is...
The Clock Tower Plaza, Bluebird Restaurant, Twin Pines Condos and LMC which was owned by John Delorean.
Great video! I too am in Oh and drive mine all the time. Very reliable and fun to drive.
@@Flies2FLL Pretty much ... with the Euro spec engine it would have been more of a blast.
My cousin has 4. 1 stock, 2 with engine swaps (GM crate motor with manuals, one of which is set up for track racing) and the last one is going to be mine, waiting it to be put together, with a built Renault V6 turbo and maybe a 5 speed or 6 speed manual.
i am not jaelous, i am not jealous, i am not jealous...
Update: my gearbox blew a hole in its casing!🤣🤣
My first car was a 1982 Mercury Marquis. As an 18 year old, I found it entertaining to get the speedometer needle to bounce above 85mph.
One of my favorite cars ever! Who cares what the media says!
Honestly the DeLorean isn’t my favorite car but it is one car I’d love to experience someday
"I use to daily drive one in college."

Well done and well said. I LOVE the DeLorean as a car and not just a movie prop. Love the spec on this. I hope to own one one day.

Learned that from Lambo drivers. They do it all the time.
I appreciate your reintroduction to the DeLorean, I've always loved them.
Thanks for the great video from another Delorean owner ;)
The Delorean has elevated respect and recognition in the public’s eye due to Back to the future, and therefore I understand the knee-jerk reaction from other car enthusiasts to take the car and its fans down a peg. I’ve even been guilty in the past pre-ownership fanboying over it.
Tempering expectations to the fact it's a 35-year-old car made in the 80s is one thing, but instead, it’s straight into hyperbole about how bad the car is. Repeating myths that are not true and exaggerating flaws reinforced by all the clickbait Top 10 car articles they see on Facebook.
lmao... they didn't need " taking down a peg " They started on the bottom rung and stayed there.
So nice to see a walk around and drive of this car and get a better idea of exactly what it is as opposed to its general public image of a movie car and of a car from a company that came and went too fast. Thank you.
Go Casey, Go go go.
It’s a Chuck Berry reference
you know! your cousin! MAAAAARVIN Berry!
I guess you weren’t ready for that but your kids are gonna love it
This is the FIRST DeLorean review that finally cut out the bullshit and looked at the car from an accurate standpoint.

One of these passed me the other day it was either the first or second time I’ve ever seen one. Such a neat car
I was in my mid-twenties when they came out. A few other things were at work to kill it.
1) I think the expectations were too high because of JZD's leadership
2) The performance did not match the price. It was almost $10K more than the Corvette
3) The stainless covered body was not to many peoples' liking
4) (Personal opinion) I don't think the US was ready for a six cylinder "performance" car that didn't come from Stuttgart.
Thank you for showing people that Deloreans are great cars they really are.

Faulty lock control module. New made replacements cure that problem. Even simpler fix, unplug the module and you have simple old time manual locks.

Coming back to this video every so often just to smile! Thanks Casey!
Great video on a great car. I think the Subaru you mentioned was the SVX. Back in the day, it was nicknamed the Super ‘roo. As super as it might have been, I’d still take a Delorean.
Nice review. Im seriously working hard and saving to buy one i love them so much, my absolute dream car
Really great review. Always loved the Delorean. Nice one man 👍
I dated a guy in high school so early 90s and he drove a delorean and it was sooooo cool.
WOW.. you bought a Pantera because it handled the high temperatures better ? That's on rare Pantera
Nice.
I agree with every bit of this video, recently I had a birthday party themed after the DeLorean and got to have a REAL DeLorean there, not only did I get to admire it but I also got to ride in it! The DeLorean is a clearly misunderstood car that is shamed because of its speed.
You had a DeLorean themed party?😂
Casey, the SVX was an homage to the DMC-12, and that is why they had the same design team hired by Subaru. I had one and loved every minute of it.
The left fender issue was that when they shipped to the US originally, the crate was mis-marked as right hand and they were destroyed as it was overstock that was not wanted. Yes, the dies were thrown into the sea to prevent anyone from ever building these cars again. Steven Wynn, owner of DMC today, has been quoted that the dies may need to be removed from their watery grave due to water pollution. He hopes to get them and refurb them to be used for new car builds.
Fantastic review Casey, very adored car by its owner clearly. I'd love the chance to own one, one day.
Thank god for back to the future, introduced me to this great car
Thanks, I learned a lot. I always thought they were under powered, over weight, with mediocre handling.
Why did you sell it?
A friend of mine has a Delorean. The x-frame is covered in epoxy paint from the factory. The paint can crack over time, causing water to pass through and rust the frame. I would like to see a review of my type car, the Bricklin SV1. Before Delorean, there was Bricklin.
