    What's makes his story really sad is the fact that the day that he planned to apologize to Zelda and start to support her in her interests was the same day that Calamity Ganon appeared and killed the king.

    after reading his diary and watching that one memory, I feel really bad for rhoam. his wife died when zelda was 6, and his fear led him to pushing his daughter too hard. he had kind intentions, but his fear blinded him from encouraging zelda like a father. he even regrets it.

      Too bad that Zelda and Rhoam wanted to talk each other for settle things when Zelda would be back from the travel but, Ganon has striked during the travel and The King died.

    People say there's no character development in Breath of the Wild. If you look closer, there is a good deal of it. King Rhoam pushed Zelda too hard and ended up regretting it. In the King Rhoam cutscene, he shows a lot of regret and remorse. Zelda at first never took the situation seriously. She needlessly scolded Link until he saved her from the Yiga clan. Then she looked up to Link. After visiting all the springs of power, she felt hopeless. Then Ganon struck killing the champions. Then she became stronger and faced Ganon alone. Revali was an imcompetent jerk but when he died, he accepted Link to be better. THATS SOME CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

    • @sodasaintcommentaries4054
      @sodasaintcommentaries4054 5 ปีที่แล้ว +121

      Revali was hardly incompetent, but he WAS arrogant and it did indeed sting his pride that link was better.
      Imagine, training hard, all your life... and some teenage boy just freshly knighted comes along and makes your talents look second-rate.

    • @bluefirelight8701
      @bluefirelight8701 4 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      SodaSaint Commentaries YES! Whenever someone says that BotW has bad character development, I tell them about Revali. People just generally hate him because he doesn’t like Link and not seeing him as genuinely deep and intriguing character.

    • @mbccgliczsdnm7627
      @mbccgliczsdnm7627 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      SodaSaint Commentaries “some teenage boy” isn’t really saying anything. Revali isn’t an adult- only King Rhoam, Urbosa, and Daruk are. Link, Zelda, Revali, and Mipha are all in the same age group, although I’m not sure if they’re all 17. And yeah, Mipha’s a lot older but she would be seen as the same age because of how Zoras age

    • @Potato436_
      @Potato436_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      beetawix wait how do you know how Gorons and ritos age?

    • @Just_an_average_weeb
      @Just_an_average_weeb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      I get where Revali is coming from. He's the most self conscious out of all of the champions (revealed if you read his diary and saw his champion's ballad cutscene.) While every champion is born out of royalty, Daruk being a Goron Chief, In Revali's eyes, he's just a skilled Rito Archer. He pretty much masks his lack of self confidence with arrogance.

      Did you ever find the bit he adds after his ghost meets you?
      He watched over Link for 100 years, knowing what he was asking of him was a monumental, seemingly hopeless task.
      There is also no doubt that he feels IMMENSE guilt towards both Zelda and Link. To all the people of Hyrule.
      He was so afraid for his people and his kingdom that he never realized that what his daughter needed was his encouragement.

    Rhoam was a good man at heart. A man who wanted his daughter to live up to his fame. But what he didn't do was let his own daughter live up to her own concept of fame. After many years of struggling to keep his daughter what he wanted her to be, he realized that what Zelda was doing just fine without the instructions of the king. But before he could apologise for his actions... *he* rose up. Even the ancient technology didn't work, just made things worse. And he died without fulfilling his duty and pushing Zelda into the belief of her talents. He knew that alone with Link on the Great Plateau for 100 years Zelda is trapped in Hyrule castle, alone, feeling like a failure.
    And one century later, he puts all his hope in the new champion of Hyrule.

    King Rhoam's cutscene was when it first hit me that all of the champions had passed. I knew who they were because amiibo, but I thought that they were all still alive and had been trapped inside of the Divine Beasts, battling whatever forms of Ganon had infiltrated their machines for 100 years. But this cutscene... I've only seen a handful of Nintendo characters straight up die: Master Hand in Brawl, NES villians, Fox's father, a handful of Zelda villians, anf Fluud. This particular cutscene made it known that even the happy world of Nintendo wasn't free from death.

      It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life... He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic, he could save others from death, but not himself.

When you meet the old man you feel like he is a wise and somewhat chipper old man, with his kind face, common laugh and generosity. Then you see this and find out he is a fallen, desperate, broken King of a defeated kingdom still trying g to save his people, his daughter. The music reflect this perfectly

A multitude of your people scorched by the very guardians you dug up, and dying knowing that your daughter is out there somewhere, not knowing if she was dead.

    I find this to be one of the saddest seens in breath of the wild, even past the champions dying. The king, the most powerful ruler in all of hyrule stands before you within the belltower of the temple of time, with a backdrop of his ruined kingdom and the beast encircling his castle. And he begs you, a young man who is clueless as to what is going on and who has no clue who he is, to save his daughter and avenge his kingdom. If you were to not exept then he would never get another chance. He would be forced to watch as his daughters strength fails and his kingdom crumbles

    THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG IN BOTW! Just because it has such a tonality of sadness and regret. I feel like this fuels from his regret of his actions towards Zelda. He always loved her, he wanted to be a real father to her, and he wanted to support her interests the day the Calamity returned. He regrets not having the desire to be more father-like sooner. It has the theme of botw playing at the end as a way to reflect his royal status, but every part of this song is sad for their late king and father. It hides so much meaning, as with all LOZ songs, but this one has such odd notes that tickle me.

  • @tarawilson8259
    @tarawilson8259 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think this song is very underrated. Although BotW doesn't have as many songs as past Zelda games, this one stands out to me. It manages to incorporate the Hyrule Castle theme, Farewell Hyrule King, and the main theme, but still have its own uniqueness. I can't help but listening to it over and over again!

  • @DrSabot-A

    Wow, what an extremely well written theme. The motif of the LTTP Castle theme, the subtle dissonances and the rearrangement of the main 'Life in The Ruins' Theme as well as those spiritual chimes and the very sparse percussions....so much detail. Even close to the end, there is background sounds that sound very much like the crashing of waves which feels like a nod to King Daphnes. Very emotional and conveys emptiness, sadness, regret, longing. This OST doesnt get the credit it deserves. If only themes like these were played more often there wouldnt be any silly complaints at all. Kudos to Mrs.Kataoka!
