Before patch 5.0.13 I was playing casually and be diamond 3 Toss.
With patch 5.0.13, which made the game more balanced than ever, I also played casually, but couldn't find my pace anymore.
My MMR dropped from 3.2-3.3k to 2.6k, which is kind of gold 1.
Some games my BOs worked perfectly, my opponents accused me of smurfing, and some games were so terribly bad, nothing worked.
Except for MaxPax, all the ProToss struggles with this patch.
The army compostion for Protoss is so important right now. It's not just macro. You can lose with double eco if you can't counter the opponent's army. Toss units are strong and fragile at the same time. There is no consistent unit in the Toss army, like the Marine for Terran or Queen for Zerg. If you can't defend, you just die.
So I'm glad Trap is starting to play at a good level again.
If I recall correclty, he was Protoss rank 1 when he was defeated by Creator in the GSL a few years ago.
After that, he went to military service and just dissappeared from the stage.
We need consistent ProToss players, like Showtime, who was also struggling a lot with this new patch.
I like what Creator is doing.
I like what Harstem is doing.
I like the kind of new Hero style. Some love him, some hate him, but he was always a true Pioneer of the Toss meta.
And we all miss Zest❤
I still think patch 5.0.13 is the most balanced in the SC history, but we need a new Toss meta.
Before this patch, there were some some Toss openers that were considered solid, like 2 gate in PvP, Void Ray opener in PvZ with early 3rd, early Colossus - Sentry in PvT, but now everything is off.
I mean you can still play like that, win in some scenarios and lose in other scenarios. But it's very inconsistent. Everything is kind of settled in 6-7 minutes or less.
We can't actually say how good the lategame for Protoss os because more than 90% of the games the Protoss never reaches the lategame.

I don't know how Trap ran 6 Disrupters into the meatgrinder and then survived at half the army supply for like 10 minutes without them.

Like he said in a video from 1/2 weeks, exept if there is a big new patch, there is no "new strat".
We saw pretty much everything in sc2.
It's more like if a strat show up after 2/3 years or more it's like a "new strat from old time".

Yeah its amazing how the skill difference is noticeable between the rank 30 players like DRG & Trap, and the rank 12 Oliveira who looked better by every metric.

DRG tried to flaunt swarm host harrassment and it was convincing but in the end could not do anything about the actual army
the swarm hosts were good, the rest of the army being roach/ravager against immortals, archons, and storm was not.
im an older school grandmaster protoss player who used to look up to players like Parting, M.C, harstem, minigun, e.t.c,
do any of the original protoss guys still play? Like MC?
or who are the modern Protoss greats for me to watch?
MaxPax & herO, Showtime & Creator are also very good.
Of that group Harstem is still around and in the top 40, check out his channel it is awesome. He does "Is It IMBA or Do I Suck" series, and "Beating GMs with Stupid Stuff".

As a Zerg player, I have such a hard time dealing with those zealot runbys. Everyone seems to talk so highly of ling runbys, but in my experience they only work out while expos are currently in construction; they get utterly shut down by PFs and a single cannon + battery. Those zealots though? I put 4 or more spine crawlers near my hatch and they just Waltz up, shrug the spines off and kill the hatchery. This of course being while the rest of their army is threatening my Nat and main

That's coz 10 zealots is like 20 supply. That would be 40 zerglings, and i bet you're not sending in that much.
Also spines are bad vs zealots, so not spines

Sounds like your economy is worse than the Protoss the whole game if things got to that point. Map vision (creep & ovis) allow you to respond quickly to harassment, but your early game still has to be correct so you are not putting yourself behind.
A PF or a single cannon + battery does not shut down anything in the late game. Cracklings & banes can destroy expos easily if their army is lured out of position.
Spines, and static in general, are of limited utility the later the game progresses, a spine and a spore can alert you to attacks, and buy you a few seconds to respond.
Last time I played I had decided to just park an ultra on a vulnerable mineral line, 5 supply, less than 2 lurkers which probably won't even kill the Zealots before they snipe the Hatch, even with spines.
The alternative to defend hatch v melee without Ultras which I don't like to invest in, is some building spam to protect the spines, xtra evos can serve as Viper energy banks later in the game. A burrowed Infestor and\or a few burrowed banes can offer additional utility.
