- 2023 Tuna fishing season just started and 5 of us went on a 3 days BFT trip on intrepid (has a very good reputation). As soon as we got there, we find out that capt Bill cavanaugh was laid off week prior to our trip. We headed to hidden bank (15/20 miles from Ensenada) and on first night, we were able to bring in good portion 18 of 20 to 40lb, then next day, we got a early bite at 4:30am, using same setup 250 to 300g knife jigs and/or torpedo sinker rig setup. 2nd night we are able to hook up more babies and caught one 130LB. 3rd day: fly line wasn’t working, torpedo sinker wasn’t working, 250-300g knife jig wasn’t working. We got absolutely none on sat morning, day or night. I believe capt sam did about 450 miles to 500 miles on this trip. So around 49 babies 20 to 40lb, one dude caught 130lb and one big dude lost a cow on his silly 40lb setup. (Would of been amazing to see mike, the big dude catch it. ) This was my first intrepid trip : speed, quietness, stateroom, big bath with hot shower was incredible. Food was “B+” at best and staff was alright. (Lost 2 on while gaffing)
Anyways, it was a fun trip: catching the first BFT’s of the season. Nicely done James Ahn 1, William Tsang 2, Scott Son 1, Derrick Hong 3 and i had 3. lol
Thanks for watching. video was intended for family and friends !

@@Fishingwithjameschoi night fishing from 11pm-5am. That’s when I’ve caught the big ones.
Nice fishing with you James
thanks for posting
Great video of your trip and a good bluefin refresher for my 3 day trip at the end of May.
The Intrepid is the top of the line and the crew is the best. I do an 8 day trip in August, the food is delicious and the service is great!
Thank you sir. I definitely love the boat and it was impressive.
Good luck on your May trip. Hope you catch a big fatty.
Great content!!!!
On the Intrepid the rod hoders on the side of boat ,will 8ft fit or has to on an angle?
Thank you sir. Nope, the side walls cannot fit 8 ft rod. You will have to angle it.
Capt sam starts talking at 1:54
If you want to skip the talk, go to 9:46
how far south did you guys go?
Guess you missed it on the description. 15/20 miles from Ensenada (hidden bank area)
@@Fishingwithjameschoi Ah, indeed I did. Thanks.
@@Regal2800 it still at Mexico/USA border. But it’s all night bites - no day time BFT.
Looks like the food went down hill thats too bad,,,chef brian no longer there
Didn’t know that but that first meal was yummy. Lol
What was the popular jig?
250 to 300 knife jigs. Color doesn’t matter
And don’t forget the Torpedo sinker rig. It worked
What size torpedo weight

We're the torpedo sinker rigs just plain lead or we're they glow or tuned up with color?
Isn’t this the newest boat of the SD fleet? Or is it the indie? Does it have stabilizers?
Sorry i don’t know enough to answer your question.
No stabilizers, you can see it roll whenever a wave/swell hits it. Excel has stabilizers. The food on the intrepid is the best I have been on so far.
@@tamalpiasintrepid does indeed have stabilizers
@@Aquaman387 I've been on that boat, they don't have it or they didn't turn it on when I was fishing on it. Also a feature that important I would think they would put it in the "about the boat" page on their site like the Excel would.
Food looked meh
