I bought my first mcbook and was a M3 Pro chip , the only thing I envy from this year upgrades are the 24 GB unified memory vs the 18 gb that my mcbook has , but I can't complain so far is a formidable machine for the incoming years !
Got the m4 pro for college mainly just basic use. Chose the pro because the difference in price wasn’t major to me and I felt it would hold value longer.
@@patrickbateman516 I bought the M4 Pro base model, with 512 GB. If you really need storage an external SSD will suffice and save you money, especially considering that thunderbolt 5 SSD's will become more abundant soon.
I saw another video that compared the two, and the 12 core was only around 1,500 less in score. I think I’m going to go for the 12 core. I can’t justify $200 more for what was a 7% increase in performance. Not justifiable to me.
@@lasarith2 the 14 core is 22,000, up from around 19,000 on the 12 core, the 14 core is a fail this generation basically 7% performance for 20% more cost.

This is true, the M4 is louder on certain benchmarks. On other benchmarks like Final Cut Pro, it keeps the fans at a quiet speed. But we're talking like very heavy usage here, I personaly will never trigger the fans.
saving for the M4, bought the M1 about 2 years ago (my first Mac) and I was thoroughly impressed :). Would love the iPhone 16 ... still on iPhone 11 and I need to upgrade.
Really appreciate your practical advice. Looks like a 16-inch M4 Pro with 48 GB of RAM is right for my needs going forward. The nano-texture screen is also easy on the eyes and doesn’t detract from the colors or clarity as far as I can tell. Thanks for helping me find the right configuration for my workflow.

I bought a Macbook Air M3 in April, and in three years or so get the latest version of Macbook Pro. I also plan to upgrade by iPhone 12 to either version 17 or 18.
My 12 year old MacBook is showing its age now. Minor screen issue in upper right corner. Looking at the MacBook Pro M4 Pro chip machine with 48 gigs of ram and 1 terabyte of storage in the 16” configuration. Time frame is sometime right after the first of the year. Only issue is standard screen or nano texture screen? Current generation is not future proofed without WiFi 7 and OLED screen, but this should be good enough for the next 8-10 years for my needs.

Hi Matt, I already ordered M4 MBP and the reviews bash the base model a lot 😂 I'll try my luck with the return policy and get the M4 Pro MBP if there's major issues with it (fan noise, especially). I do plan to get an iPad Mini 7 at the end of the year to go with it, though. Buying an iPhone would be further down the line, and the transition would be complete. Let's see if my choice of going with the base model is going to be satisfying my newly-found content creation needs

Main thing that was always holding me back from buying a Macbook was the 8GB RAM on the base models, now that they’ve doubled that it’s looking like I may look into a Macbook Air as they’re great value for money atm!
Since I am going for the 16” MacBook Pro it comes with the 14 core. I upgraded to 1TB SSD. Space black. Stayed on the standard screen, looking at the nano I don’t like the matt finish. My machine is scheduled for pickup on the 18th of November. Hope it gets here earlier, so can have it over the weekend.

Built my own desktop and have surface pro and a powerful Lenovo workstation laptop. I also went to the android world. Fast-forward to today. The M series silicon is ridiculously powerful. I use davinci and a lot of other high-powered tools. I'm very much eyeballing the m4 pro laptops and awaiting the release of the Mac Studio M4's. I might miss my touchscreen for lighting software, though.

Have questions regarding one fan versus two if planning to be on the MBP for most of the day. Also the amount of Ram and storage device. Photography, use or Lightroom and Photoshop take up a lot of space. Any suggestions?

For future proofing I would spend on RAM, 24 gb minimum. Look how quickly 8 gb became obsolete.
