    I live in Houston Texas and there were a couple of the black-bellied whistling ducks in my front yard. It was awesome! They were so beautiful and I've never seen them before. I was trying to describe what they sound like to my sister and she's like they don't quack?😅 Not these! So I forwarded your video to her. Thank you!

    Just got a visit from a pair of black bellied whistlers after a thunderstorm. I have 2 fresh water ponds adjacent to a marsh that is at the end of a creek. They seem tame and unafraid of dogs, other birds or humans. They leave to roost at sunset and return to spend the day at sunrise. I am in the ACE water basin, just south of Charleston near Edisto Beach, SC
    Beautiful coloration. I haven't heard their call yet.

      @@toucanrescueranch never seen or heard one but they are just beautiful little things. I'm a carer for wild and tame birds so I've had many many ducks, most wild, they breed in my yard, 3 acres, mostly wetlands. I just love them. 😊

    @Bacopa68 They actually do have a population in Florida. They are mostly confined to the central region, though there are populations in South Georgia and South Carolina as well. They are increasing in number and are prone to vagrate. One spent an entire fall season until early Dec. 2010 at a lake here in Omaha, NE.

    They might actually be endangered, Mitchell

      No, the Black Bellied Whistling duck population is growing over a large range. Not endangered any more than the rest of us.

    @Bacopa68 we enjoy the ducks they are part of the family, not really a rescue duck, but having said that are you sure the states are full of Black bellied whistling ducks?

    • @TampaDave
      @TampaDave 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can say there are hundreds in my area of Florida. Apparently their population is growing, and their range is spreading.

    @slothmom The coastal parts of Texas and Louisiana are at least. I went and did a little research and found out that they don't go much much east of the Atchafalaya River in Louisiana. I figured they must go all the way to Florida. They don't
    Even so. It's a very common bird in the Houston area. Anything larger than a pond will have tons of them. I love it when they fly at dusk and whistle to assemble the flock at roosting time.

      They do now!

      Yes, there are a lot of them in central Florida. Sometimes in the evening you can see (and hear) dozens of them in formations. Maybe you aren't thinking of Black Bellied Whistling Ducks, but instead Fulvous Whistling Ducks. Their range is more as you describe.

      There are plenty of dogs in the world, but no one but mean people think lonely ones should not be rescued.
