    For the Owl/Hawk. I would reccomend putting up either shiny plastic (that may help with your birds missing the cage too) or put up a fake owl/hawk since those birds are territorial and would just avoid the aviary.

    Such an amazing job you did with the aviary! One addition i would highly suggest,since you have a pond,which attracts mosquitos, is plants that attract dragonflies. They are the number one mosquito killer,so since you swim in the pond in the summer,controlling the mosquito population is absolutely a must. Good plants around the pond are: Swamp milkweed, Black-eyed Susan, Aster, Coneflower, Water lilly, they are very colorful and a welcome addition to your pond. Love from Romania! PS: The great horned owl doesn't typically eat birds,very rarely in fact, if the owl was around the aviary,it usually means that there are rodents around!

      @@christinamforte The pond is only like 10% of the aviary. There's plenty of space for trees away from the pond. Regardless it wouldn't do any harm if some leaves and fruit got in the pond. Yes, that is true. They have already taken a lot into consideration with the aviary and have gone down a good depth to prevent predators. Also, they have a shed already that I'm sure this intelligent and thoughtful couple could do something with to accommodate the tortoises. Or add on to the existing shed. From what I've seen, they go all out for their animals, and I'm sure they wouldn't get a tortoise without research and planning. They seem excited at the idea of tortoises. I say do it 😊

      Swans, Black or other kinds, are very large birds. Different from all the birds there, swans form loving pairs and each pair works together in the breeding process. Once they breed, they become highly aggressive and territorial. They will kill all other birds in the aviary. Consider someone turns her back and takes a selfie with Brown bears in Norway. Not a good idea.

    It's so nice to see the ducks so happy! If you choose to have a tortoise, just remember that you'll have to have a hot burrow( with heat lamps) during the winter. Sulcata tortoises grow to be huge and can live over 100yrs, and will eat the grass and any fruit/veggies. BUT, they DIG down deep and can even dig out. Their trenches can be 12-15ft and 4ft deep. I would recommend smaller tortoises. Just research them, to find out the best kind. Most brumate in the winter( bury themselves and hibernate), and re-emerge in the spring.

    I would like to see some Guinea Fowl in the aviary too - they are pretty and they would add to the diversity of fancy birds. The Ducks look amazing and it seems they already love their new larger space. Hopefully they will quickly learn not to fly around the netting, but just in case, maybe you could attach some shiny things here and there on the netting to let birds know where it is (including the predator birds) - something that cannot break off and be eaten by the animals - maybe like a shiny bauble that can be clamped onto the netting in some way? The aviary is fantastic - congratulations on reaching this goal! You have worked so hard.

I have some Helmeted guinea-fowl and just a couple days ago when I was looking at different breeds I discovered the Vulturine guinea-fowl and they really caught my eye. They're so crazy looking. I just can't justify spending that much on birds especially when we've had birds killed by predators before. If I had a fully enclosed aviary like this then I'd definitely consider it more.

    A tortoise sounds like a great idea to help with the grass you certainly have more than enough space to adopt an already large one so you won't need to worry about missing it if you still need to cut some off the grass yourself. For birds there's certainly a lot of other pretty pheasants you could add. I think trees and bushes should be first tho, give the birds some more spots to feel secure and get out of each others way.

      Chickens do alot of digging they'd do alot of damage to the ground. Also they don't particularly go for the grass unless its short. They prefer the bugs and seeds in the soil. Bird wise geese and ducks do better grazing than chickens.

    Instead of direct release (like with the ducks) consider indirect release like you did for the peacocks... even if you release them and open the doors right away and allow them to find their own way outside, it would be waaaay less traumatic. I don't think you'd have sooo much panic flying and then no one would get stuck in the netting. They'd be free to find the perimeter on their own.💕🌞🌵😷

    Really enjoyed seeing the Mandarins released....which made me think, that a small vine covered arbor with a bench to sit and 'watch' would be great. A duck blind, so to speak. Guess you will have to be careful and research, as to which fowl to add that will coexist and maintain a balance for the area to support all who live there. Awesome completion of the aviary, and look forward to all the tweaking to come. It will be a environment to enjoy for all who watch the channel.

    i would say definitely get some tortoises and you could maybe even get some rabbits to keep the grass down as long as they have an area to go to keep warm

    • @leahheapp
      @leahheapp 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Rabbits would just dig huge warrens, probably under the bird coop. Plus, mixing them with the bird droppings, you’re bound to get the rabbits sick. Additionally, birds bring rats .. and they will also attack them/ pass on diseases. Just not a good idea for the rabbits in my opinion. As much as I would LOVE to see rabbits have that much room to run around, it’s not the best environment for domestic breeds.

    • @enchantedenglishadventurer8024
      @enchantedenglishadventurer8024 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Rabbits burrow and will tunnel under the fencing allowing other predators inside. So, rabbits might not be the best idea.
      I have kept rabbits for over 20 years and like goats, rabbits are expert escape artists.

    • @sic22l
      @sic22l 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Some tortoises also dig very deep burrows, they also need 55F during the night.

    • @zebedeemadness2672
      @zebedeemadness2672 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They don't really live in good Tortoise weather area, they'd only be in the aviary about one month possibly two, likely having to put them indoors most nights and they dig, the rest on the year they'll have to be indoors under heat not eating grass. Domestic Rabbits will burrow, but maybe Domestic Guinea pigs maybe a option, although they use the burrows of other animals, they don't burrow them self.

    • @sic22l

    Just a thought, but maybe when new birds are added to the aviary the flight feathers should be clipped so they can get used to their surroundings without flying right into the net. So great to see the birds being able roam freely in a large enclosure. Great job with the whole project!

    Pulling the netting tighter will help with things getting caught and twisting into the net. The material has probably loosened quite a bit since it was hung. Hopefully that helps, otherwise you might need a more rigid material for the top.

      Rabbits and birds just wouldn’t mix well, in my opinion. The bird droppings would make the rabbits sick, they would dig holes everywhere .. and rats will attack them 😅 I’m sure they’d *cope* but it’s not the best environment for domestic rabbits. Plus their winter is too harsh for them to live outside really.
