    I met Mrs.Garrett at a video store I worked at. I was so star struck and nervous when I recognized the name on her credit card, my hands started shaking. Mrs.Rae told me stop typing the information I was to rent her the movie, she told me to come out from the counter and she gave me a HUGE hug.She said that she has never met such a star struck fan's reaction as did mine and she was flattered.(her words) This was my first job after being homeless for 4 years. I will cherish that memory forever.

    How could anyone not know when Charlotte Rae said that the girls were straight, she obviously meant that they were not into drugs, alcohol and crime?

    • @atlantic-yq2wr
      @atlantic-yq2wr 9 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      LBF522 Well, you must admit that the meaning of the word has taken on a new context. Would you ever refer to someone in a happy mood as being gay?

    • @atlantic-yq2wr
      @atlantic-yq2wr 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      LBF522 Funny, but a friend of mine is a lawyer, and he always makes it a point of referring to the co-operator of his firm as his LAW partner. Just a few years ago, he only used the word "partner".

    • @LBF522
      @LBF522 9 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      atlantic 11561 No because the definition of gay has changed which is a shame. As for Charlotte Rae, someone from her generation says that word "straight" one can correctly assume she meant they were decent and law abiding.

    • @LBF522
      @LBF522 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @108813070947074909161 True the definition of some words do change with each generation which is a shame but as for Charlotte Rae's comment, again it was obvious what she meant

    • @atlantic-yq2wr
      @atlantic-yq2wr 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LBF522 Agreed, but I must admit that the first thought that would pop into my head would be the "newer" meaning. :D

    I was a young dad when this show came out, and I have to admit I watched this show with my kids as they were growing up. It was the catchy tune that first got my attention early in the first season, and as I watched the shows each week, I realized they were teaching useful lessons to young viewers, but without hitting them over the head with the messages or preaching. Of course, there were always laughs and Charlotte Rae brought so much to the table. I still remember my young daughter and son, when I took them to an Angels baseball game, they were so excited when they saw Nancy McKeon and Mindy Cohn in line getting snacks. My daughter said hi to Nancy and Nancy said hi back with a smile, and my little girl was on Cloud Nine after that.

      @@Diostillrocks I see it differently. Those issues you mentioned are what families deal with every day. In my family, I had a cousin who got pregnant at 19 and another cousin who struggled with substance abuse. Family is sticking through those tough times, because they are inevitable in any family. We can’t hide real life struggles from our kids. They’re going to see it everywhere they go. What we can do is teach them the importance of supporting one another in good times and in times of struggle. That is what creates family unity and family values.

    I consider myself to be a very lucky person to come from a generation of shows like The facts of life. I remember me my little brother and big sister all sitting in front of the console floor model television and we would sing along to the opening theme song and then spend the entire show laughing and talking about how much we wish we were like the characters. Me a mt know little brother used to always call our sister Natalie. To this day(we're all pushing 40 yrs age) my big sis still reminds me of Natalie. Oh the good days of true childhood innocence is over.

    • @rlmpproductions

      Back in the 80's There weren't alot of multi- racial sitcoms. The families were majority white with some ethnic people sprinkled in here and there. "Goodtimes", "The Jeffersons" and the "Cosby" were actually about the whole family.
      "Different strokes" was about adopted black kids. "Webster" was about an adopted black kid. "Benson" was about a black butler. "Give me a break" was about a black maid.

I’m not sure if many people know that she was on survivor but I’m watching old episodes of Survivor and on season 25 she is one of the contestants and she does very well & out of all the players on the season only one person recognised her but did not tell anyone instead her & the other person formed a bond together. If you’ve never seen season 25, with Lisa Welch on it, it’s on Paramount.

      atlantic1119 season 1 was awesome with the quirky headmaster ( I though he sort of flirted with Blair but obviously that would have been abominable inasmuch as he was a faculty member in a school). I liked the large eclectic cast of the first year. I remember the blonde girl and Blair’s clique. The producers probably felt the large cast would not be effective. They were indeed correct because Jo turned out to be a great character especially her interactions with Blair. The ratings went up the second season.
